Slowly starting to feel like im growing in discipline

Well, I'm happy to report ive been learning and following bankroll discipline, probably for the first time in a long time, and mainly because of fear. Yeah, fear. Fear of ending up totally broke, without a room to sleep in at night, with no way to come up with any money. The same fear thats kept me from returning to Las vegas, where id have to risk losing this entire $1300 between the cost of a place to stay, and what id probably lose at poker under so much stress.

my 28 days are about up, and even though the casino manager is willing to extend it for me, i would like to spend a little time with a couple of out of town friends, so im in the process of making a few arrangements. Also i really need some clean laundry, and im sick and tired of only 1 buffet meal a day and nothing else to eat entirely, including no food in my room. And i really need to deposit money into the bank, so theres enough funds to cover next months automatic deductions of phone and net.

earning the comps is getting very difficult because of these bankroll guidelines, i slowly am having less and less days prepaid up. the good news is if i check out, i can get back all the comps i prepaid up for future days rooms, if i check out early enough that day. such as if i checked out tuesday morning, id get back the comps ive used for tues nights stay, wed nights stay, thrusday nights stay and friday nights stay. am paid up til saturday right now. i used to be prepaid way over a week ahead.

am still holding onto over $30 on lock, depending on how this $5 sng goes. i've been noticing the lowest stakes cash games the players there are quite weak, sad thing is its so very little per hour u need awfully cheap housing.

pokerdogg i worry if i watch a long documentary my internet bill will go up $10 next month, thats how i got the huge amount of overage that one month watching some movies about 1-2 hours long.

So for 2 weeks or so, my money hasnt decreased since those early big drops to $1300. lowest its been since then is $1100+ and now its back in the $1300s. Not only has it not decreased, its actually up $107 in real cash, not even counting the value of room comps. Which proves that "george" was right about me being able to hold my own on the VBJ if i used a good counting system, and managed the roll properly. In over 2 weeks, i have never bet more than $13 on any one hand, and that has got to be a very big first for someone with the discipline ive always had. even when i had the bad day when i ended up down $183. Fear of being out of action entirely is what did this. The profit ive achieved over them 2 weeks proves the machine can return over 100% even without comps. (but very little--unless of course someone was well rolled--then they should make over $50 an hour and is why word cannot get out, well one of the reasons anyway).

Now id like to address some comments mentioned in previous blogs. by the way i was surprised by WEC's comments about Walmarts, it was the first time i realized he wasnt democrat. i dont know why he posts under the name pokeramp 24/7 instead of WEC. Also its nice to see some of the more conservative readers speaking up too. And i wish Zin could tell us how i could be sure no rattlesnakes can get inside his trailer. Pokerdogg thinks ill do OK at poker if i play my "A" game, but he forgot the most important lesson i need to learn right now is to follow bankroll rules. Which of course, mean NO $1-2 NL holdem in a live casino right now. theres no way i can risk what i have. if i lost it my life would be so much much worse off than it is now for the negative. Also Vince is worried he will be laid off anytime soon. And the reality of online poker is--all the good internet players quit playing online. Only the bad ones remain, and they are not coming back anytime soon. Its not really ur skills that dictate how u do at live poker, anyone can run bad. its the size of ur bankroll that has all the say in how u do, and whether u should sit, not ur skill level, this is a common misconception many people have.

Still looking for a person flying allegiant to take that voucher off my hands, since they dont service the northeast or florida. Or reno for that matter. its good til April.

  1. Tony glad to hear you are sticking to some guidelines, no rattle snakes can not get into my Airstream trailer, i just took the trailer to my ranch over the weekend got some hunters staying in it till the end of Jan 2013 then it will be available again. I will let you know when it is available and if you need a place to stay like i said before rent free just pay your utilities.
Could not pass up the 2 hunters, they paid me 5k for the 2 months of hunting and 1k for the use of the trailer, i am paying the electricity and water use at the ranch.

  2. Good to see that things are going so well the last few weeks.

Any plans for improvement in December based on what you've learned so far from a month as a VBJ pro/online SnG pro?

You know way more about the VBJ side than most of us so I'm mainly curious about the SnGs.

It looks like you've played a total of 129 SnGs so far in November, with an roughly equal mix of $2 and $5 SnGs.

That works out to about 5 SnGs played per day so far in November. If you play 2-3 tables at a time like you've said you do (and assume each SnG takes an average of 30 minutes to play), that's about an hour a day you've spent in November grinding online poker.

Any plans to spend more than an hour a day playing online poker in December? Any day to day obligations (charity work, political activism, hanging out with friends) that you could cut back on to free up more time for playing poker?

If you did find a place to stay to free you'd still need some income to pay for food, Internet, and utilities, as that'll run you at least $500-$600 a month.

That means at your current pace your ROI playing all $5 SnGs would have to be close to 100%, as you'd have to win every one you played to generate $500-$600 in profits.

So is that the plan for next month? Just win them all?

  3. Tony says..."...i dont know why he posts under the name pokeramp 24/7 instead of WEC..."

Tony, how do you know pokeramp 24/7 is WEC? If this is true, I find it really funny for some reason.

  4. Tony, why don't you understand variance and how to win at poker after 20 years as a professional gambler?

You seriously have no clue on anything really.

Why is Guy Laliberte considered a fish in poker? By your logic he should be the best player in the world.

    1. Man - I guess it's just that I'm horrible at the game and not that the other players are better than me.

They must all just have a larger bankroll than me right now which is why they are winning. I'm going to make a large deposit and correct that situation immediately.

  6. Tony:

Have you considered donating plasma? You can get about $200.00 a month, enough to cover your cell phone contract and put a little money in your roll.

I think your hourly would be better at plasma than grinding micro stakes.

Any reason you don't do it?

  7. Tonyl I'm glad you're feeling better. But, perhaps the lesson you should be learning is not that machines are beatable (as you apparently wish to believe), but that gambling involve variance. You've been gambling long enough to know when you're simply running well. I hope you are still considering a long term plan . . .

  8. S.I.,

If Tony is afraid of rattlesnakes, I suspect he'd be SCARED TO DEATH of needles. Plus, Tony's blood is probably 50% mashed potatoes anyway.

  9. good news is i now have $50 on lock, enough to comfortable play $5 sngs instead of just $2s, and more 5c10c NL or PLO instead of just 2c4c. Am still using good bankroll management by not playing ANY sngs above $5. (p.s. why do the $2 sngs run regularly and the $5 ones run regularly) but the $3 ones never fill up, even when 2 people in them already? makes no sense at all why the same people will reg for the $2 and the $5 and not the $3. can vook explain? i think the reason i think the players are weaker online today isnt just all the good players who dont want to play online but im not usually playing limits this low, so im seeing a lot weaker competition.

  10. also i won $75 last night, and now my balance is finally back to over $1400 for the first time in a long time. would be $1500 would i not have had $84 deducted from the bank the day before for my monthly internet access fee. The reason the balance is not decreasing is because i am not playing any live poker i am not bankrolled for, and because im not playing any video machines where im not a long term favorite, and because i am not overbetting my bankroll. its been ages since ive bet over $14 (what my new max bet is allowed to be now instead of $13). Pokerdogg forgets that i would not only have to lose 100 hands at $13 to go broke, long before i got to the 100th hand, my max bet wouldnt ever be $13, and also i only am making that bet about once every 200 hands. Which is why following the correct bankroll management rules work to keep u from going broke.

  11. Tony, I made that comment because I haven't fogotten your past tendencies. No, you won't keep betting $13 a hand, the fear is you would bet $30/40/50 a hand once you are stuck $300 or so, which is quite easy betting $13/hand.

I hope you can stay disciplined, I really do.

  12. If you're a long term favourite on machines, then why have you lost like $5k in the last two months on them?

    ReplyDelete
  13. So you build your roll to $6000 playing poker then it goes down to $1100 playing machines then back up to $1500 playing machines and the reason you are winning is because you are not playing poker. In your mind this short term upswing is proof positive that you can beat the machines. Come on man wake up.

  16. Tony says on twitter..."@lightning36 if ur phone really has no internet access as u claim u wouldnt be able to get on twitter. if u have net u can get into ur mail"

Tony, stop making a fool of yourself when you call people out like this. Twitter supports SMS on phones, you don't need internet access to use twitter.

  17. Seems like every Vegas casino drains the crap out of my phone or has huge dead zones. It's painful to use my phone inside a casino. I usually put it in airplane mode to save juice
