here in vegas for a brief moment

tatude sent me the link to this organization that he thought could help me, so i sent them this email, i fully expect them to ignore it and NOT answer, or send me the same type of hate filled reply all the blog readers send me, telling me im a bum and to just go apply for welfare and be thankful we have obama (dumb enough to believe he has anything to do with it). On the spur of the moment, without any advance thought, decided to get checked out before 11am yesterday so i could get back all the prepaid comps i had for the rest of the weeks stay, so whenever im around that casino again ill have $65 in comps again. tatude can drive me back sunday but he isnt returning to cali yet.

thought i could get 3 free nights at circus but i couldnt since i had no play, used up my comps and paid money but not much. also i found out about the bus to suncoast, it also goes to the airport, and u can get it every hour at 4th and carson, which is nice, but not helpful as it goes nowhere near here. would only be helpful if i lived near grump. someone said to try the beverly palms, i worry about my safety if i lived downtown.

actually to be honest, they will ignore the letter or just say their lowest fee is $575 to be evaluated and given a diagnoses. (yeah i looked at their other PDF documents u can download). the ones for the "sliding scale".

From: "Tony Bigcharles" Add sender to ContactsTo: autism1@unlv.nevada.edu

i am homeless, and trying to get my SSI denial appealed. i couldnt find an attorney willing to assist me in the appeal, because i am not "seeing a doctor".

lived my whole life with aspergers, no need to see a dr, im pretty much the person who keeps to myself instead of being around others. i supported myself playing poker, and recently lost everything.

i used to get ssi, then it stopped over a year ago when i won a large jackpot. now im about broke and cant afford housing. am living in Jean NV off $12 dollars a day in comps til i run out, because i cannot afford a place to live anywhere else where id have to pay cash. all the cheap places in vegas are way too unsafe to live in since im white.

am in vegas til sunday for 2 days, really need to go somewhere and get help with ssi today, i dont know where to go. i need to find an atty who can accept me, and i need help with finding a dr, and i have no money. also i could get a disabled bus pass and save a lot of money if i only had some way to prove i have the autism.

ive had it since birth, but no idea how to prove it, except that i used to get ssi for it in the past. my mom is old, age 70 and she has no idea what dr or lawyer i used years ago. ssi claims my old records are "sealed' and they dont know.

because i was off ssi for over a year i had to start all over from scratch. applied in august, got denied in oct and now im reappealing it. and theres NOTHING medically any different about me.

can u please tell me how a homeless broke guy finds a dr? i was hoping the sliding scale was like the "gambling counseling" i used to get from UNLV that was only $5 week, and then i left the area and stopped going. i dont feel i need to talk to a dr, but i need to somehow prove i have a disability to both an ssi attorny, and to the city bus, i cant afford to pay full fare all the time.

yes i know i need to be in vegas to get help with social agencies, or even to go and apply for food stamps, but as a Christian and a republican i not only feel thats wrong morally, i am afraid they wont accept me because i cant prove my citizenship because i was born in canada. to an american parent, but still , it caused trouble years ago.

all i want is a disabled bus pass, and to get ssi again, im broke and desperate and dont want to go back to panhandling. thats how i got the money for years. is there anyone willing to pay the fee for me so i dont have to beg for money?

i cannot get a NV id because of it so every 4 yrs i have to return to louisiana to get an id there. need a way to solve that too. i just cant bring myself to be in vegas on the streets if i can survive in Jean another 3-4 weeks off old comp dollars from the goldstrike casino. where else can i live $12 a night in a casino?

someone please help me know what to do long term. they tell me i cant get a disabled pass unless a dr tells them i need it

also id appreciate it if u guys would please contact my mother in ks. and she will verify my condition. she is sherry Bigcharles on facebook, only 1 person in the world with the same name.

i have an online blog that talks about my struggles with autism everyday and the pain of trying to survive gambling and being homeless. go to sevencard2003.blogspot.com and u will learn alot.
------------------------------------------------

cannot understand why im not doing better in stud, played it for years and won small amounts. i guess only the old stud experts play there, not tourists, although one lady always loses and is very bad.

dropped $100 there since coming to vegas, played stud all day with a dead cell phone unable to contact anyone and didnt realize grump didnt get my letter i sent yesterday afternoon, now everyone seems to be asleep. had a long rest with a lot of nightmares.

and of course, there is NO $2-6 spread game at the riv, so i sure cant afford to play any poker around here. have checked a lot on bravo lately even while out of town to be sure, and never once seen it listed.

seattle irish did say he might run me out to opp village saturday, but thats NOT where i think i go to get this. thats only for disabled people working there, and im sure they need proof before they can be screened by an employee from a dr.

maybe since this other service is done by UNLV, seattle irish will go and talk to them explaining how he knows me and the letter is legit?

So, to be clear, you are NOT going to call Opportunity Village? It's simply not worth your time to dial the number I sent you? Despite Opportunity Village, a place at which i do volunteer work, being listed as a resource center for autism spectrum disorders, you won't take the time to make one phone call because you think (based on absolutely ZERO experience with that center) they won't help?

I won't do your work for you, Tony. You can make the call(s) or you can be homeless. You have some decisions to make, my friend.

    1. I applaude you s.i. Keep insisting that Tony first help himself and then lend some assistance. I do not find any value in helping people who will not do anything for themselves.

    3. doufous is dumb as fuck, me writing the letters to grump, and to the autism center at UNLV shows me making an opportunity to help myself, he has no right to claim i didnt simply because i contacted OTHER agencies that help the disabled instead of the one seattle irish prefers. to say i ONLY am wanting help if i use a particularly agency, instead of one of many other agencies, makes no sense.

    4. and yeah SI, i just got done calling opportunity village. according to their website, the number is 259-3700. some black guy answered the phone, and said there wasnt anyone else there to talk to with greater authority. he told me i should call the disability law center. so i called them at 702-257-8150. they said they DO NOT help with ssi applications/denials, and told me to call the center for independent living at 889-4216 and tell them i need help with filling out an ssi application, this was long after i explained id already filled it out, plus done the appeal online. they suggested i call the outreach clinic for the homeless to see about getting a doctor at 702-307-4635. they also suggested i call legal aid center.

this is why i think calling agencies, and depending on help from bureaucracies instead of private individuals is useless. all they do is refer u to other places instead of being willing to help themself. i came into vegas to go to someplace TODAY, IN PERSON, to talk to someone who would provide immediate help. what Jesus did when people asked him for help, he did the help himself instead of telling them to go somewhere else or call someone else, and he wants us to be the same. and if i had a ton of money like a lot of wealthy people do, i would be doing the same thing Jesus did, problem is i have nothing. then they told me i should get old records from my school as a kid, and any doctors i had then, etc. and i explained all that does no good because no one back then knew i had autism, and then they were wondering how mom knew. mom found out thru some autism research place out in CA.

    5. Tony:

This is the thing about making decisions with "no advance thought." You did zero planning in trying to resolve this. You could have called agencies ahead of time, jumped through the hoops, and scheduled appointments with people who could help you. Those things take time and planning.

Instead, you simply hitched a ride to Vegas (very nice of Tat), with no plan for how you will pay for your stay, and expect someone to help you "TODAY, IN PERSON."

That is not the way things work, Tony. Coming in on a Friday and expecting any agency to schedule an appointment that same day is not how things happen. You've been on this earth for 40+ years - you know that's not how things work.

So...call the Outreach Clinic for the Homeless and see about getting a doctor.

This is your LIFE, Tony. Your life is worth the effort of more than one morning of making phone calls. Take charge of your life and be vigilant about pursuing your goals.

Or not. Those are the decisions one must make.

  2. Glad to see you have at least made some minimal effort to get some help. I've been a long time reader and root for your success.
That being said, when you ask anyone for help, whether it be a person or an agency, you might want to leave your politics, religion and racism at the door. I believe you are entitled to some assistance, but you tend to torpedo yourself by not being at least a little politically correct.
    Good luck, OF COURSE!

    1. I'm with Chuck on this one. You write an email asking for help from an institution that will be presumably liberal, and you immediately mention that you cannot live in an area that is dominated by non-whites and you do not believe in social services.

      Delete
    2. why should i presume it would be "liberal?"

  3. p.s. - Tony, I'm going to offer you a wonderful FREE ROLL on this one!

If the UNLV Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders replies to your e-mail by calling you a bum, telling you to be thankful Obama got elected, and says "just go apply for welfare"...then I'll pay the $1100.00 for your ASD Evaluation.

Sweet deal for you, isn't it?

What is not such a sweet deal for you is moving out "without any advance thought." You also disclosed you were in Jean, NV. You've blown your cover, sir. Give the "advance thought" thing a try. You have the ability.

    5. Tony, you sent the email on a Friday afternoon, just how fast did you expect them to get back to you? If they didn't get to your email in the few hours remained in the work week, they won't even see it till Monday. If they don't get back to you by middle of next week, then try contacting them again.

    6. Tony, the world doesn't work around your schedule. I know you don't understand this due to your disability, but first of all nothing educational or government ever gets done on a weekend, and secondly you're not the only person in Las Vegas needing help. Social advocacy is grossly underfunded and overwhelmed with requests for assistance anywhere you go. You need help now clearly, but to get angry because you don't get it right away and to start making defamatory statements is simply premature and irrational.

  5. Good job doing what you've done so far. Keep at it. Theses things can be frustrating and it's much better to plan them ahead but u made good progress today. We all have to deal with stuff like mortgages, or getting health care etc. It's not easy but worth it in the end. If you get stuck on a particular thing ill see if I can help next week.

Let me know about what time u want a ride back on Sunday. May be returning to Cali Weds or Thurs but ill know more soon.

For the record Tony was very thankful for the ride and food. I know people mention he isn't all the time but he was.

  9. As others have said, congrats on taking these first baby steps towards getting the help available to you (even if you're only doing it in the hopes of getting some more free money).

Thank goodness friends like S.I. and Lightning have stuck by your side and keep steering you in the direction of groups and organizations willing to help.

I hope when you're saying your nightly prayers you not only give thanks to Jesus for his ultimate sacrifice but that you're also thankful for this country you live in. Not only are Democrats continuing to fight for funding for entitlement programs like SSI but thankfully Republicans haven't yet been able to start mass deportations of people whose only proof that they're a US citizen is to say "Ask my mom; she'll tell you I'm legit."

As others have pointed out, the odds of GETTING A BIG FAT SSI CHECK IMMEDIATELY to stick in them machines is pretty much nil, so you better buckle up and get ready to deal with all sorts of red tape. You'll also probably have to deal with black people at some point, so practice your poker face and try to learn how to smile at people and say thank you a lot, even when someone doesn't IMMEDIATELY do what you think they should do.

Good move in not mentioning the big SSI overpayment you got in the past. I'd also not mention poker or the machines; all they need to know is that you're broke and need help and have nowhere else to go.

  12. Tony, being as intelligent as you are, you should know nothing governmental or administrative gets done on a weekend.

Call legal aid and the homeless shelter for the doctor. No one else will even be around to help you until Monday elsewhere.

Also, if you want people to feel for you and work harder to resolve your problems, just be factual and keep your opinions to yourself.

On the way here i grabbed about $20 worth of cheap tshirts at the thrift store, so now i have closer to 30 tshirts again instead of about 15, so i wont need to do laundry as often. remember how everyone encouraged me to throw away clothes? thats how i got so low on tshirts.

  13. Mentioned it before Tony but Social Security will provide you with a lawyer for a 3rd appeal. Get ur butt down to to the SS office first thing one morning so you can talk to someone face to face. Yeah you might be there for hours but probably beats flat betting $1 a hand blackjack. And it will probably take more than one visit, but you have to do what you have to do. No one can do this for you, just go do it and quit whining.

    1. i talked to them on the phone, theyres nothing more to do with them til they make a decision by march as to what to do with the appeal. its not the 3rd one yet. figured it would be better to have a lawyer sooner. theres nothing to talk with them about, its a doctor and a lawyer i need to talk to. getting a reduced bus fare ID wouldve saved me a ton over the years too. id bought passes and paid for cabs far less.

  14. You have a lot of good friends like Tat, Grump, S.I, etc. Tony. This is one thing you are going to have to do yourself. You need to be persistant and not lazy. Keep making those phone calls/visits until you get approved. If you still get denied then you will know you have done all that you can. It isn't about being democrat nor republican. SSI has been around under Republican and Democrat administrations. You have to appeal as long as you can and keep making phone calls until you find a doctor that can see you.

So i am NOT going to vegas to play poker, and also i will not be playing any machines while in vegas, (except to claim my free play at a couple places)... and im so glad ill never be playing any of those vegas and laughlin VBJ machines again with the worse paybacks and comps.

    12/6/12 blog post:
Its nice to know that once im back in vegas, i wont ever be playing any VBJ there or any VP except to pick up various freeplay offers. I'm not going to be wasting what meager money i have on bad machines when theres so much better machines available outside of vegas. That was dumb of me. Not playing those anymore in vegas should help to keep me in action everyday able to pay for my roof.

    2. as i explained to grump in the car on the way home from southpoint, id promised my host on the phone id play a little when she removed the "resort fees",(lowering $30 off the bill) and had i not bet larger amounts near the end, id not lost anything close to that much long term. only thing i did wrong was overbet cause i was stuck. i played the +ev one in circus by the poker room, i didnt play the bad one i used to always play in slots of fun that dont show when the shuffle is, only the one that does show the shuffle. its not as good as jean, because it only gives out half as much in comp dollars. also the roll is in the $1100s (i round down) and the $58 i won later in the $2-4 limit i played all day at the nugget brought it back over $1100

    3. Saying that the only thing you do wrong is overbetting is kind of like saying the only medical condition I have is this steel pipe embedded in my skull. Its a serious problem, and I don't think you're capable of fixing it.

I'm still waiting to hear what state law mandates that the shuffling animation has to correspond to an actual shuffle. Please cite the state law.
