new roll, $2018. now i dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing, considering last night the roll once briefly reached $2233 as i was eating in the cafe at the nugget. (right before i left the game to eat.) that was what i quit with.

also, im afraid to spend money on anything i need to pay, including rent, internet, and phone, because i feel  ill need to hold onto it to have enough to play NL with instead.

Grouchie sent me a message on twitter last night, wanting to know where id be playing so i told him the golden nugget. but it didnt see it til hours later. later he sent a text he was at the MGM, and i didnt see that til another 6 hours later, is why i need a working phone or a room with wifi at the table. also i knew omerta was in town, id assume hes playing in the game with mc gee somewhere.

so id been winning heavily at the nugget all night, buying in $100 and eventually cashing out $447. after id built my stack up somewhat, some new guy sat down in the 2 seat, a young drunk. couldnt tell if he was hispanic or egyptian, thought it might be tarbash or omerta. although at first i thought omerta was a troll account created by mc gee. anyway he was playing really loose, donked off about $500 to the same young girl in seat 4. another woman from canada with her husband who has avp installed on her phone was in seat 7. i was in seat 9. and the guy in the one seat must of known of my blog though he claimed he didnt because when i was talking, he said at least u keep ur blog updated. then later backtracked and said thats what he is assuming. and the guy in seat 3 often said hes mistaken for sklansky and was a regular who plays lots of 20-40 limit elsewhere and 40-80.

so i get a hand AQ, and seat 2 bets $15, but this was about the time he first sat. before hed lost so much. i mean he bets this after the flop, cannot remember what happened preflop. i mightve been the small blind on a limped pot. flop comes up A29 rainbow, and he bets the $15 as i said. the woman with far less chips than me, about $130 maybe less, makes it $30. i really dont know what to do, i call. then seat 2 raises $65 more, and she goes allin. and i fold. turns out he had A9 and she had A5. so i made a good fold, but it came runner runner TT, makes me the winner had i stayed. i was sick about it, and he said i was a nigger and a MF for being afraid to call him. thats another reason i assumed it might be one of those guys. dealer said to calm down and not use those words, but the floor never came over.

he later went broke in short order, giving so much to the asian woman in seat 4, also a little bit loose.

his final hand he had something like J9 clubs and bets $45 into a $3 pot preflop. 2 people call, including the woman in seat 7. i have a ton of chips, and have no choice but to shove KK and take down all the dead money, was so relieved no one had AA. how likely would that have been in ur opinion? both them folded after i shoved $300+, including the guy who first called who had a lot of chips.

shortly after he quit i left to eat, giving back about $25 first. it was AFTER i came back from eating and rebought $100 at a new table things went bad. i lost the $100 on JJ after a guy overbetting way too much preflop bets $20, hes raised 4 of the last 6 hands, is a tourist. asian guy whose moved tables a lot calls, and i think he might be a reg, but one who plays in other rooms, not the nugget. i shoved my last $80-90 and everyone folds but the asian, who has AA. same situation, just this time im out. so i left.

and im wasting too much time online--this updating is work--like a real job, no wonder ive put it off. would talk more but no time.

  1. First thing, it's very unlikely AA shows up in that situation. IMO, if he is pushing $45 into the blinds, he has something marginal and is just donking around. Anyone who calls knows this and the range of hands they can have is wide open, you played it perfect if you ask me.

Second, someone saying updating a blog and twitter is like having a real job has obviously not spent much time in the job market...

  2. Tony,

Congrats on the win. How did you get back over $2000? Your last update had you under $1000 and this was less than a $400 win.

  4. For one thing, why bother paying for Internet anymore when Wifi is available almost everywhere you go now? Even if you value sitting in your room playing on seals, you can prolly pick up wifi somewhere outside or from the hotel itself.

"and he said i was a nigger and a MF for being afraid to call him. "

Yeah, the poker table really brings out the best in people, huh?

    1. It's kinda ironic that you're being called racial slurs. I'm not sure why he's so upset with you for not winning the pot, but whatever.

Why is this dude raising $45 into a $3 pot? Also, why are you shoving $300 into that pot? I understand your fear, but why not raise to $250-175? With the dead money, that's a pot sized raise. You can shove every flop and be profitable. Shoving $300 closes out the idiots who overcall and particularly closes out the idiot opener. The other thing is that perhaps the only one calling the $300 raise is AA. Basically, you close out all the "bluffs," if there is such a thing, PF, and get value towned by the 6 combos of AA. Plus, you walk away STEAMING and have a potential episode. If they reship on you, you can re-evaluate.

Again, I understand your fear of being sucked out on, but the risk seems to be worth it; if you pick up [at least] 1 caller, there's $~400 in the pot with $150 behind. $150 may induce a shove by the original bettor.

FWIW, anyone holding a random Ace has ~30% equity in the hand, and pocket pairs have ~20% equity in the hand, pre flop. The random Aces have the best price for the hand - calling $100 to win $300 - perhaps raise to $175 instead; it gives Ax a worse price.

    2. A pot sized raise is around $220, Tony only had ~$300 in his stake. The shove isn't really that bad given the table dynamics. His reasoning is flawed though, I would shove to try and induce a call, not to shut down action.

    3. I made a mistake in the range but my point was exactly yours; you want action, not to close out action... Besides, our commentary will fall on deaf ears anyway; do you truly think that TBC will change his opinion / game play due to our comments?

  5. Tony, in life we don't really have a whole lot of choice of whether or not to pay regular maintenance bills like utilities and rent/mortgage. Do you really want to be without your phone? Internet?

    1. In ur opinion what should I buyin for in no limit with $2000

      Delete
    2. I don't think you should be playing short stack poker. Your strength (at least in Hold em) is playing a tight game with a decent amount of chips. Pay your bills first, then buy in for an average amount and play patiently. At least that is what I would suggest.

    3. In my opinion I'd at least answer L36's questions before randomly asking something of my own.

  7. Couldn't take one bit of simple advice onboard, that I gave you on RTP, could you Tony. You were up over $2200, but you weren't satisfied with that were you? So you went back to the GN, dropped a Hundred then promptly went and fed another hundred into an even money BJ machine. You were fucking stupid, and greedy and you paid for it. Some times I wonder why I even bother trying to help you.

You keep saying you want to grind online at home. If it was too early for you to go to bed, why didn't you just go home and play low limit games online like you are always saying you want to do? Every reason you have given for not doing that is just pathetic bullshit, they are excuses for your stupidness, not logical and good reasons for not going home with over three hundred dollars profit for a nights work.

Honestly Tony until you can be satisfied with a moderate to good profit for the day and not be so fucking stupid and greedy, and leave the god damn machines alone, you are going to be broke, scared of your own shadow, and stressed out about trivial shit for the rest of your life.

Lesson #2, after you realize in order to maximize your profit you need to properly evaluate your table. This means a good incite on psychology, and sociology. You must keep yourself in the middle of how different types of people react to being emotionally attached to their chips. More real lessons on request. I normally don't tell anyone crap, but if your nice enough to talk to Tony I will tell bits an pieces to some.

  25. Tony,

Saw your brief post on RTP about your Social Security denial. I would recommend taking the next step and appealing that decision. Your best bet is to seek out a Legal Aid organization that may provide legal representation on your behslf. Here is one for Clark County.

    http://www.lacsn.org/

If I were you, I would seriously think about contacting them, trying to set up an intake evaluation, whether over the phone or in person, in order to see if they will assist you with your appeal. You should meet their income guidelines for this service.

Legal Aid is a service paid by the local bar associations and exist for people who cannot afford legal assistance. I hope you seriously consider contacting them and do not let this advice fall on def ears. Be smart and do not be lazy here. Use this service and spend a half day reaching out to them. Its there to help you.
