How to better improve my poker results

ok, long overdue blog post, will start this one off with the good news. i am still in a nicer place to live than most, and still have a roll of $1371. Ive paid the rent is paid up thru next tues. also ive won 6 sessions out of 6 in the stud or omaha suncoast game. But the main piece of good news is that ive not played any machines.

now for the news thats not as good. Im not sleeping the right hours, spending more time aleeping than playing poker, and for whatever reason i suddenely cant hear out of 1 ear, maybe its full of wax, but i cant get any wax out. also i keep having to set my computer on a higher percentage over 100% to be able to read the print without glasses. 2 of the pairs of glasses of the 3 i still have, the glasses dont easily stay on and have somehow gotten quite loose. also it only makes it easier to see closeup tiny print, seeing theings further away such as print on the TV is actually harder and i have to take them off to see. But yes the glasses does allow me to see stack sizes and bet sizes on UP.

not doing well on UP either, am back to $146 and at one point i was briefly over $200 several days back. sure will be glad when they add omaha.

I might be able to see Tatude, Kingofdonks, and Cooldave all 3 tommorrow, but for whatever reasons no one seems to be available today, so i guess as soon as i finish this post ill be looking to catch a bus. Yesterday i made the mistake of going to TX station because i woke up with vince up the street saying he was riding in my area picking up Cox boxes and i could ride with him if i was able to leave now, so i did, and he stopped at like 3 homes on the way to TX station and he said Suncoast would be too far out of the way.  so i got there in about an hour, and proceeded to lose $106 at TX, and out $143 at the worst point. i shouldnt have took the overs button, that had to be the cause of a lot of the loss on one hand. actually at 10pm Vince was going to bring me to suncoast and play a little while also, but when we called there was no game but 2-4 still going, so instead he dropped me off on Craig road and i got the bus home.

i read the old 2+2 link, and seems a lot of people both there and here, totally misread how i play, much of whats posted about it is incorrect. Such as the part about being an unimaginative nit. in reality, i play too loose, and try too many fancy plays. (and i blame that on the ones whove falsely assessed my play in the past). I should go back to ABC poker, and stop limping EP with AA, and stop trying to disguise my hand, (all of which is caused by mistakenly thinking others think i play like a nit). u see in Seattle Irish eyes im a nit because i dont play total garbage hands like Q5 offsuit for the extra $1 in the SB in a multiway pot. but no thats not a nit, thats just being smart.

so i had 67 diamonds in EP and i was already stuck about $60, enough to have took the overs button and moved tables to where many had overs to try and get unstuck. i limped the $2, and a guy raised to $8. (i shouldve been paying attn to the fact he raised less often than most). but it was a young guy. everyone folded to me, and i thought id reraise to represent a real monster, so i said $14. he calls, and we are now in NL overs after the flop. Flop comes 358 rainbow. i bet $15, and he makes it $45 (damn) and i call, turn comes Q and he puts me in for the little bit i have left (about $20+) and i call, and miss again on the river. and he has KK. i wonder if he couldve got off had he only had ace high. but i shouldve realized he raised less often than a few others at the table who did it alot.

so yeah i need to do 2 things. stay away from holdem and stick to the games im doing really well at like omaha8 and stud8, and id also like to check out the omaha high game sunday nite at tx, sometimes 6-8 of them have the NL overs. much better game than boulder because the blinds are only half as much since its not $4-8 like boulder is, also u can raise more to protect ur hand, (making it $8 right off on the $2 BB). i have a feeling it can only become more popular as it gets more well known.

also im still wondering about when i should and shouldnt be taking NL overs. i probably shouldnt base it on whether i am up or down for the day. at least ive found a good phone tracking program, and am accurately tracking results now.

  1. I will try to meet up with you tommorow and bring suitcase at least. I only play NL on occasion so probably won't be playing poker with you. Stick to the games that work for you.
Glasses that help for close vision can make things blurry that are far away unless they are bifocals. If you're just using readers they are for reading books looking at computers etc
Not trying to dispense medical advice so don't anyone get all excited but don't stick stuff in your ear. If its wax you'll just make it worse. You can get a kit to dissolve wax at the drug store.

  3. General rule is always take it unless you are out of position against the only player(s) that have it.

    1. i thought the general rule was to either take it or not take it depending on whether u had 1% of ur roll on the table, or 10%

    2. You should stop trying to focus on stupid arbitrary rules and focus on identifying your edge and maximising it. You max bet at vbj all the time so i don't know why you're such a nit with poker buyins when you actually win at it

  4. What happened with the mental health center? Or did you just make the one call and give up as expected?

    1. Automated responses are hard. Asking for stakes online is way easier.

  5. Tony,

I normally only play No Limit Hold’em and PLO or PLO8 so I can’t provide worthwhile strategy input on the value of taking an overs button. The one thing you can do to improve your results is to shut your mouth at the table. You continue to talk strategy, berate players and babble on for hours about your roll, your blog, etc.; this is a tremendous leak and irritating to others. You will continue to alienate other players, making them gun for you and also alienate the dealers and floor personnel.

Just like you have quit playing machines, quite yapping at the table, it is truly your biggest leak.

I hope you continue to do well. I am planning to be in Vegas sometime in the first part of August. Hang in there and I will stake you in a daily tourney, if you can make a meet up time.

    Good luck,

    snevman

    1. Nugget would probably most convenient to meet at on a bus, and they get a few more people than just 1 table in their daily tournies. more like 3-4 tables.

  6. imo ear wax removal kits suck. You need to go to the doctor and get a z pack or amoxycillin. That will work

  8. rode the bus downtown, then rode the bus over to the suncoast, and played a quite shorthanded stud8 game til it broke. it got so shorthanded for a while we played a mix of stud, stud8 and razz. 2-3 of us for quite some time. i left the game up over $150 after once being up over $200, to walk up the street a few blocks to get the last bus. (since the last bus had left the suncoast at 10.09pm) went downtown and since TX had no game running due to lack of AC in the poker room, walked over to the nugget, and sat in the $2-4. ran my $60 up to $97, then a lady sat and won like 40 out of 50 pots with almost $200 in profit, busting everyone who was leaving, and i was down to $24 when i left the game. went up to the bus stop, and had to stand there well over an hour because the 2.50am bus never showed up, and the 3.50am was extremely crowded, turns out the earlier bus had been in an accident.

    1. The Roll is growing keep it up. My wife has mentioned that she would be willing to write a letter on your behalf to Binions to help get the ban lifted. Do you think a formal letter would help?

      Delete
    2. how much pull does she have? does she play high stakes for over $200,000 a year? for thats about the amount i ran thru the VBJ, only with about $1000 in losses was all. i wasnt a good enough customer to be worth keeping as much as i am to handle.

actually, so i wont get rebanned again, i think i should avoid all $1-2 Nl games til my bankroll is more than double what it is now. that way i wont be stressed out when i am back on any previously banned casinos property and wont get in trouble in the future. so i dont think i should try to lift bans til im in better shape.

    3. You could get the bans lifted and then simply not play there until you are ready.

    4. I seriously doubt that Tony will ever get back into Binions after his last blow up there. He had already been banned from their poker room on an earlier occasion but managed to get back into the poker room. Then despite several more warnings, he had a monumental melt down in Binions on the VBJ machine and was banned forever from both Binions and their sister property 4 Queens.

    5. it is very likely one or more binion's staff has read tony's blog.

meaning slim to no chance the ban will ever be lifted...

  15. Very vague about the money your roll grew. Have you touched the machines?

Also, when someone offers to help you; say thank you. Don't question them. Who cares who his wife is or how much she spends? She is willing to give you help you don't really deserve. Take it and when you're ready to play there again, maybe the ban will already be lifted.

Two phone calls, one of which was to the right place and one was to Reno, in five days is all you could manage? Get real Tony. You got your ride to Vegas, now your done. Seriously, you need help. Call back, every five minutes if you have to, until you get someone.

  16. going to sleep now, got to get moved, am not comfortable riding that bus at night anymore, so i waited til daylight while i sat in the V omaha4-8 game. extremely loose action tonight, but i couldnt get any cards. got stuck over $100, (just like i did earlier with KOD money) but then got to $56 ahead, but when i left was stuck over $60. yet my roll still grew to $1683 because KOD gave me a lot more than expected out of the 1 stake i did win for him at the golden nugget when i turned his $200 into $507. we went there after i lost $115 of the earlier stake at the V in the omaha, in the hopes of seeing PPP who wasnt there. i wouldve been over $50 better off had i been willing to ride the bus home in the middle of the night, really am trying to figure out where i should stay next week.
