southern california trip report for WSOP2007

well i got a long sleep last night,  (better than just the 4 hours i got outside that asian shopping center in westminster) or shorter sleeps ive had on buses and trains. Lucky for me no one found or stole my suitcase and sleeping bag where i hid it by oceans 11 when they werent willing to store it. so i still have it, and im just now coming into san diego itself instead of the far northern areas of it. i felt safe sleeping where i did last night, far away from any visible homeless people, although i saw many on the bus who looked homeless. it was on the grounds of a VA hospital. but i was so far out of the "inner city" i felt safe sleeping there right at the enclosed bus stop. there was also a medical college up the street and a lot of places i couldve hid out at.

i went to oceanside yesterday because they have a special promo going on for those who havent been there in some time. get 6 scans on ur players card (about 6 hours of play) and u get a free meal, $40, and an emtry into a $10k freeroll tourny in sept. its also available for brand new signups too. im glad i hear about it because it got my roll back over $550. (won about $85 there counting the free $40), all of it in $20-40 NL. $1 $1 blinds. slightly lower drop than HG or commerce.

the day before i went to Pechanga, and let me tell u, telling me about google transit and how to use it was the best favor Britni ever did me. ive found it unquestionably helpful but i can also see to access it from the laptop, and not my cell phone. i use it all the time trying to research how to get to various places from practically any location and i dont know what i would do without it.

and the people working as hosts in the motorcoach office at pechanga are helpful too. she helped me get on a different bus back into the LA/OC metro area free of charge when i didnt go back on my original bus.

anyway i went to pechanga because i was looking for a $3-6 omaha game instead of $4-8. seems $2-4 dont exist nowhere anymore. but the problem is theres a kill in all the omaha8 games, so u are actually playing 6-12 so much of the time u arent really saving anything. there dont seem to really be any CHEAP omaha anywhere. hopefully UP will have it soon, by the time im back in vegas.

and yeah that game was wild, thanks to 2-3 extra loose players who did a lot of capping. it was the type of game most good players would LOVE that were adequately bankrolled, because in the long run, that type of game is a lot easier to beat. and u can certainly overcome the rake in that type of game. in the short term however, the variance will kill u if u are on a small bankroll. and thats actually what happened, i missed every low when i had a monster wrap, every high and lost $242 in that game and just couldnt afford to rebuy anymore. which was a bitter disappointment because i was actually counting on omaha8 to be my lord and saviour when i went out to cali. now they play it there with 5 cards instead of 4, which means u are even more likely to want the nut low instead.

i still think if i had the bankroll, that game just like the $4-8 at commerce and a few others in cali, is very easily beatable for $100+ a day for life. but the saying has never been more true that u have to have money to make money, and thats something no one understands. at least not many of the readers of this blog, from what they say in their comments.

and i wish lightning wouldve call me, ive told a lot of people its too hard to type from the cell phone instead of the laptop and i was sitting outside away from the table not playing, and later on was at the bus stop waiting quite a while for the bus to leave. he got upset i said to gfy when he wouldnt call and i dont see why he kept forcing me to talk by text if he wasnt doing anything impt. i was quite pissed because i felt he dont lsisten to what i was telling him, and i dont feel anyone really listens or understands. its because others dont talk to me in person enough, and only throught the blog, even my dearest friends. for example he was claiming i wouldnt be homeless and in this mess had i went to SNMH. thats not true, all that wouldve happened if i went there was they wouldve told me that i needed to go to a shelter, so why bother? i dont want to be in any shelter, its way too dangerous for a white man (or a man perceived as white to black people) to go into any shelter thats not in a very small town far away from the inner city or he will be a target for theft, assualt, all of which is encoraged by Eric holders refusal to prosecute blacks for hate crimes like he does whites.

and last night i actually looked for one around oceanside but none exists. oceans 11 and i guess anywhere around oceanside dont look safe at all for sleeping outside. better to be in a place like lajolla, or any asian area. pokerdogg knows asians dont commit crimes.

i hope today goes well, ill be playing a totally different game today

  1. I think everyone here knows you need a big bankroll to have a good chance of success at poker. People are always telling you to put together a bigger bankroll than you have. You just chose to ignore them. Most people would agree that you should quit playing poker until you save enough for a big bankroll.

  2. I'm pretty sure all your readers understand that you have to be properly bankrolled in a game in order to beat it.

What you don't understand is that you have to have the proper skills to beat the game. If not, then the bankroll requirements are infinite.

You don't have the skill to beat the 4-8 Commerce game for $100/day. You probably don't have the skill to beat it for $1/day.

    1. of course i have the skill, just no way to prove it without money. ive lost well over 100k in machines since 2000 that all came from poker winnings, long before i ever got ssi, money to women, money for every expense, it all came from poker wins. hard to believe i can no longer win. am on an extended downswing and under stress lately.

wec is right about better games in cali, with a roll i would at least earn well over $100 a day easier here than there. the rake is omaha8 is much easier to beat due to huge pots than $20 or $40 NL.

    2. Tony, you prove you have limited skills in poker with every hand history you post. You can win given the right games and conditions, but $100/day in the 4-8 Commerce game, who knows.

      Delete
    3. By the way, how do you know you lost over 100k in machines since 2000? I thought you don't keep records.

      Delete
    4. So you think winning today requires the same amount of skill as winning during the largest poker boom we've ever seen? No. The competition is much better.

And you didn't win over 100k at poker in the last 14 years. Period.

So ... you wanted me to call you IMMEDIATELY and I did not. Your response, therefore, is Go Fuck Yourself.

Start thinking here Mr. Genius. You had no idea of where I was or what I was doing, but because you were frustrated you decided to talk crap to me after I had been the one to communicate with you to find out how you were doing.

I just might start rooting for the coyotes.

    3. Actually you're right on this. If you ended coming up to Nor Cal thats one of the few places I would recommend. Used to see a few of the same homeless in Chinatown and they were never bothered as long as they minded their own business didnt make a mess and moved when asked. Not the best place to panhandle but I walked around Chinatown many time in all hours and never had an issue. Better choice than the hood. Not your best option but if you gotta be on the street it works. BTW did the shampoo do any good at all? I know you only had it a few days curious if it did any good.

  11. there are a lot of people in the same boatas me the only difference is they live out of cars and sleep in cars so dont remain in the same situation near as long because it takes a load of their problems away. for instance they dont have to deal with a sprinkler system coming on and soaking all their belongings left behind an electrical transmitter a few blocks up the street behind cement when security refused to store my things. and no hotel at the casino.

yeah i need a place to stay shelter or what where i can safely store a laptop since i cant bring it back to the poker room. someone near plaza bonita or valley springs, remember those terms this game is way too easy to win at and low stress and offerd nowhere else not to return to it daily.

  19. It's a shame that you didn't listen to the myriad of people who tried so hard to convince you to get the help that you need when you were in Las Vegas. So your life has come down to sleeping wherever you can, having no worldly possessions, barely eating at all, being fearful of anyone who may harm you and rejecting the last few friends you have in the world? What kind of life is that? I can only feel pity for the choices that you have made. The only person to blame is yourself.

  23. Tony as someone mentioned a backpack would be a good idea. You've lost two suitcases on this trip and all your clothes. Get a couple pairs of pants a few shirt and clean socks. If you develop problems with your feet it won't be good. It's what a lot of the chronic homeless have problems with and it can get real bad if you get cellulitis in your feet/legs. I've sent u emails on my suggestions.
You have to have patience with the system. It won't happen immediately and your emergency is not theirs. You have to plan ahead and if you get assistance and don't need it then don't use it but you need to start thinking ahead

You get alot if opinions here but the people who really know you are pretty much in agreement. IMO return to Vegas and get set up with some kinda assistance even if its food stamps or bus passes. The time u spent on a bus to Cali could have been spent getting your assistance worked out. You will not survive living on the streets anywhere especially So Cal. Option 2 might be to go back to Kansas It's your life I'm just giving you some input. In the end it's your choice but I would not recommend something to you I wouldn't do myself. I wouldn't wanna be on the streets and I'm alot more street savey than you. It's rough out there.
Wish you well but you gotta put some work into helping yourself out. You got some good people willing to help out and they have done a lot for you. Most people on the streets don't have that advantage

its far and id need a ticket, but both CO and FL has some new ideas as to cheap games and good promos ive just learned of thru magazine ads. the isle and ebro park. great promos at ebro for low rolls, u get paid 24/7 for aa cracked in the $2-40 game and u get paid for 22 cracked and 44 cracked in $2-4 which would be easy to hit.

  33. BP I see you've edited my name out of your post. Good idea. I'm not gonna play cat and mouse games with you. If you post any more personal information about me I will join RTP and do the same. You like to make quite a few smartass comments to people and I'm sure some would like to know who you really are. There is no need to post personal information about anyone, I have quite a bit of yours and I've let things be, I suggest you do the same.
FYI you have no idea what I nor others have done for Tony. Most of us don't seek the spotlight like you do and handle matters in private outside the blog. People have tried to arrange shelter, bought him his shampoo, tried to help with his SSI or just were there as a friend when he needed to talk to someone. You're smart enough to know these blogs aren't the whole picture when it comes to Tony's life
I'm not gonna have this conversation regarding personal information again. Post what you want to about Tony, just don't drag me into your little games unless u want your information made very public. Lots of people u can fuck with, I would put me at the bottom of that list if I were you.
FYI I check the blogs as sometimes it's the best place to keep up with what Tonys doing at the minute. I know him and try to look out for him when I can. The big question is why are you and others so obsessed with him as you've never even met him or spent any time around him. For a guy who started a TBC site and had spent hours and hours writing about him you really shouldn't talk about being obsessed. Really look at how much time you've spent on Tony a guy you've never met. You're not alone there are people that have stalked him for years. I myself actually know him and spend a fraction of the time posting stuff in his blog, just try to keep tabs on him especially when he's in wander mode.

It is not like you have exposed your life to blog readers as Tony has. And there are a lot of nuts out there...

    3. Not at all, I have respect for everyone that posts their opinions not just the ones that agree with my views. No one deserves real life abuse for their internet views, unless they are trying to rip someone off here. You choose to put your life out there, Tatude does not. We all can make fun of each other in whatever way, so what it does not hurt anyone unless they take it seriously.

      Delete
    4. WEC thanks for the comment. For the record I don't dislike you, we just have different opinions regarding Tony. I've found some of your posts a bit caustic but nothing compared to what other people have posted and I know you have made efforts to help Tony when he was receiving threats. We just have to agree to disagree on things.
Mr BP enjoys starting little skirmishes with people, maybe he gets some thrill over it, I don't know. When he had his blog he spent quite a bit of time targeting me for some reason but when he posted a link to a parody site linking me to a racial hate group things were taken to a different level and I made him a project. I don't care what he posts, just that he leave me out of his silly games and don't mention anything of a personal nature. I know more about him than he knows and I will respect his right to privacy, but expect the same from him. I am baffled by his obsession with me over the course of all these months. There is no inner circle, its a joke. Nobody is running Tony's life. He does what he wants. He can go ahead and taunt whoever he wants I don't care what he posts he just would be better served leaving me out of any future postings. Enough said on that.

I don't think I have the answer to Tonys issues. I don't follow him round the net sticking up for him, just respond to way over the top insults that get posted here. It's his blog, he shouldn't be subjected to personal attacks here. We disagree on whether people should help him or let him hit rock bottom. IMO he's hit rock bottom a few times in his life and it has not solved his addiction to gambling. The only person he hurts is himself and since being on the streets won't stop him then I don't know the answer but I don't see anything wrong with helping him avoid the streets, its not gonna stop him. One trait of autistics is that they tend to hyper focus on things. This may exacerbate his addiction, I don't know I'm not an expert. His makes decisions I don't understand like leaving all his stuff because it got wet. Most people would have downsized a bit if it was too heavy but he thinks in a completely different manner that I don't understand. I don't get upset over it even tho I've given him alot of clothes and a suitcase over the years that are all gone now. I'm not mad, I feel bad for him. WEC I think if you ever meet him you might have a different opinion about him.

Way too long but in closing he attracts some real crazies. I mean Marc Chapmen types that have a real obsession with him along with the typical Internet bullies who love insulting people they don't know for whatever reason. I don't worry about the few stalkers I've attracted, I can deal with them, but Tony has attracted some unstable followers and more than his share of people that what to do nothing but harass him.

My comment to Tony wasn't even over the top in one of his previous blog entries and in you came looking to stir shit up. I commented to Tony because I find it funny how hes quick to point a finger and call someone a troll via computer, while hes literally trolling all the people IRL that have offered him a helping(whether he knows it or not). I'm not trying to cause more waves, I just think its ridiculous. It's not like I took your comments to heart but I think you might need to practice what you preach sometimes. Just my opinion. 6. Shady I've seen prior comments you've made about Tony elsewhere. Then u come over to his own blog and take a shot at him, it's been deleted but I thought you were basically calling him a dirty monster etc...Like I said it wasn't your first little dig at him and now you were here on his blog doing it. You've never ever met him nor probably know much about him. Did u know he's autistic, did u know people fuck with him on almost a daily basis? He's got his issues some major but he pretty much writes his blog and does his own thing.
I in turn brought up something about you that doesn't define who you are and gave you a hard time about it. You didn't care for it even tho its true. Anyway you're a young man with a lot to see and learn about. Maybe I'm a bit old school but I nor the people I know pick on disabled people or mess with people who are obviously having a hard time in life. It says alot about the people who do stuff like that. It wasn't that what u said was that bad but you came onto the guys blog to fuck with him after a few cracks over at AVP. To be honest it really makes you seem insecure that you are even worried about him or feel the need to rip on him. I'm not trying to be rude saying that but a guy in your shoes should not be worrying about Tony. Beleive me you're moving to a vegas, u will meet some real assholes probably on a daily basis. Enjoy the adventure. I'm sure you wouldn't want your shortcomings brought up on some Internet site. Tony's far from perfect but maybe u should reserve judgement he's not what he is made out to be in these blogs. You should be confident and secure enough to not feel the need to screw with people you don't know. I understood you comment that day to be a pretty nasty comment about him and that's why I brought up some things about your past. Hopefully we are both a little clearer on things. Good luck in town,

  34. Tony:

I'm sure the majority of your blog readers have never been homeless. I know I'm curious as to what that life is like (There but for the grace of god...etc...). Can you give me/us some details, particularly for the following:

    1) What/when do you eat?
    2) What hours do you sleep? What do you sleep on (i think your sleeping bag went busto?)? How do you determine where to sleep? About how many hours do you sleep at night?
    3) What temp is it during night?
    4) How many other homeless people are sleeping in the areas you're in?
    5) Are you panhandling? If so, what is your sales pitch? What does your sign say?
    6) How do you keep your laptop safe if you can't bring it into the casino?
    7) It sounds like you haven't showered in about 5 days - do you do the "rest room shower"? Do you notice any odor? Are you brushing your teeth?

I hope none of those questions are offensive to you. I've always been curious about that life. It certainly does give credence to the line of thought that many homeless are homeless by choice. I tried to see if that was accurate, but still not sure.

    http://anawimcc.org/myths-and-facts-about-homelessness/

This site says about 6% are "homeless by choice", but then says many "refuse the demands made upon them to maintain a house..." That still sounds like "choice" to me, unless they are incapable. It also says that only 25% of homeless "camp", which is what Tony is doing.

    4. well i was homeless in florida for like 5-6 years and will b again soon here in colorado. where i was in brevard county. there is aplace called the daily bread. that is a soup kitchen were there is a shower list,a lunch that starts at 11-2pm, also u can recieve mail there. when i was homeless in cocoa beach. showers were at the beach access or ocean. food was sometimes at the 7-11 were at 3am .they discard the old hotdogs and such.and the dude would give u a free refill if u had a cup. so i would take out the garbage at the fillin stations.i had numerous camp sites around the county . so u have to travel light. a blanket, toothbrush, book to read, little things bcuz good thing about the Daily Bread was that with a shower u got clean clothes ,so u recycled yr old ones. they washed them and they got used by some1 else. so never carried clothes just had a sweater or light jacket with me. i would laugh at ppl like tony carrying at this shit with them or would have a storage unit bcuz dude u r homeless. material possesions r meaningless. also most places like that have toothpaste and the like, so u r good there. hope that answers some of yr questions. sorry didnt get to all of them. hit me an email if u want to know more cassabelli@yahoo.com. also library is good place to charge yr phone .laptop, etc

  35. Stop wishing for a shelter in a small town. Small towns and suburbs don't have homeless shelters because they don't have a big enough homeless population to serve and don't want to attract homeless people. Shelters are in inner cities and big cities because that is where the homeless population is largest.
