where should i go? vegas? cali?

am doing better than expected in LA, mostly playing $40 NL. dont know for sure if ive just ran unbelievably hot, or if the games are actually that much better than in vegas. just woke up in the spa a while ago, jumped into the shower and came downstairs, and im sitting in the lobby of the hotel where the wifi works starving for food something awful, but before i sit at the table and eat, wanted to get this posted first which i promised someone.

Holding onto a roll of $1594 (including a paypal transaction i did for someone) and i really should go by the bank and deposited another $400 or so in it too to be carrying less cash on me, but ive not left the commerce. will try to do that and get a pair of pants at the same time.

i cant get the Valley travel club to return an email, which had the Jean NV trip on aug 21-22 looks like id have to find a way to call, maybe theyre sold out. it would feel so good to just relax in a room for as long as i wanted with no pressure to check out. the last time i was in Jean i made do for quite a bit with less than i have now.

While in Jean, i plan to earn comps by playing blackjack on the VBJ, but for smaller amounts than before to play it safe, and certainly not betting 5 spots at once anymore. 2 spots of $6 each will be the new maximum, regardless of the count. Mainly this will not be done to make money, but simply to get free rooms. all the moneymaking will be done online poker from the room. BJ can also be played online btw, for those of u who are interested. this should work, because its something i never tried on any of the previous trips and lowers my risk of losing substantially. the only thing thats gonna drive me crazy is the lack of internet or phone, i am so overly behind i am nowhere close to repaying that $400 yet. yet id like it paid sometime just so i dont ruin my credit and can rent an apt someday.

or should i never leave cali? im tired of only resting in that spa, and i dont have the money yet for a weekly motel, but if i kept up winning at the rate of $700 a week for 2 more weeks, i soon would have the money for that, unless i just ran above average. also i am sometimes playing a little omaha8 and stud high, and i think those are good games also, but for whatever reason the variance in them seems a lot more than NL? or did i just run good in one type of poker and poorly in another?? i do know my rolls quite short of what it needs to be for omaha8 after speaking with several good omaha8 readers.

not really much to say, but its about time i update this blog, its not been updated in a few days. i wish there were better meal options here too that dont cost a lot also. what do most of u order at the commerce while at the table? also some of u who are in vegas should go say hi to agsweep this weekend while she is in vegas, she is there all weekend and leaving on wed. i doubt ill be there this weekend, but definitely need to be there when lightning is

i hate to go to a place games cant be beat just to afford a weekly place to live longer term. and also im off machines as long as i never leave the commerce

  1. Tony says..."dont know for sure if ive just ran unbelievably hot, or if the games are actually that much better than in vegas..."

Before you can answer that question, you need to know what is your win rate at Commerce, and for Vegas. How many hours have you played at commerce? Have you had comparable winning streaks in Vegas?

If you don't have any stats, what is you subjective evaluation, you must have some ideas about your opponents.

  2. for whatever reason i dont feel well, i keep having chills, ate some soup, still feel nauseated, course i didnt eat much either so who knows. still feel tired and i slept almost 11-12 hours not counting my online break between say 6 to 7.30pm, i continually kept going back to sleep, feeling like i was freezing with the cold, til being forced to leave at 11pm. in fact i wish i could go lay down now, but i shouldnt after having too much sleep.

spent $5 in the gift shop on an orange juice, toothbrush and toothpaste after 2 small wins, new roll is now $1631 instead of $1594

    1. Tony you should be eating a lot of bananas they are cheap, healthy and full of nutrition. $4-$5 in bananas a day can give you most of the calories and nutrition you need.

  3. Bravo on the toothpaste! I'm really, really proud of you for taking the initiative to get that.

You have no address or I would mail you some basic cold medication like DayQuil. But really, you can get some at a dollar store or gift shop maybe using comps.

I know you don't like spending money on rooms , but if you're coming down with a cold or stomach bug; a room may be your best bet for one night, just so you can sleep it off. The best defense for minor illness is sleep and lots of fluids. The orange juice is good, but so is basic water.

If your snot turns green, or even very yellow; you're going to need an anti-biotic. Though minor illness isn't life threatening, you can't afford to be sick for a week. So rest as much as you can. If you can tolerate it, eat fruits and vegetables as well.

    Feel better.

Does this mean that since arriving in California you have not, up until now, brushed your teeth?

  5. Have a look here Tony!
Studio apartment in Las Vegas, fully furnished, $600 a MONTH!

You should be aiming to get something like this, not necessarily this exact one, but absolutely something like this or similar to this.
It would mean you wouldn't have to play VBJ or VP to get "free rooms" and risk a meltdown or going on tilt if you have a loss.
It would mean, that once the rent is payed...for one whole month you have a roof over your head EVERY night.
It means you can sleep whenever you want to for however long you wish to, have a shower every day, you can store your belongings, you can prepare nutritious food...and you have a permanent registered address, where you can have mailed delivered to.
You can give a permanent address to any mental health services, govt authority or prospective employers who ask.
Or, you can continue to do things your way.
I know which option you should choose....the choice is inevitably yours but along with that, so is the outcome.
You could take a bus ride to Vegas. Pay for one month up front and still have money left over to grind away with.....and you wouldn't have to worry about where you are going to sleep, shower or store your few belongings for a full month.
That, surely, would be a weight off your shoulders.

    1. except that NONE of the games in vegas are beatable like the games here at the commerce, and also in vegas u need a lot bigger roll than u do in cali because of the higher buyins for NL.

that is still an option im highly considering if i hit $3000 though,, shouldnt be long

      Delete
    2. I agree the buyins are bigger in Vegas, but as many have said in the past you would make more money in Vegas if you worked on getting bans lifted at strip properties (many have offered to help on this) and game selected drunk tourist tables. Right now your Vegas poker strategy is tiny buyin games in off the beaten path casinos playing against locals in total rock garden retiree games.

      Delete
    3. sure, none of the games r beatable. LMAO.

    4. loool...you ask where you should go Vegas or Cali and when someone says Vegas and takes the time to give you sound advice you say EXCEPT blahblahblah...why even ask? You are gong to do whatever you want to do; the only reason you ask for advice is so you can have someone to blame it on when something goes wrong/you lose money etc

    2. I think it's great that Tony's monetizing his blog. He needs to make money wherever he can - the paid links prove to be a nice money maker, no doubt! Good job, Tony!

    3. I did (and still do) have ads clearly labeled as such. But I never accepted various offers to embed links or sentences or paragraphs of copy as if they were part of the post. I.e., there is never any difficulty distinguishing what I wrote and what was being paid for, and there was never any overlap between those two things. That is a line of demarcation you have erased.

  9. played one final session, new roll $1687, at one point was up $25 but only managed to quit the game up $5. also i checked on the status of my account at the cashier i havent used in years, its still active, so i deposited $800, now i feel better since im not carrying around as much of the money in cash. still need to add a few more hundred to BOA also. once they get the paypal for the ad, there will be exactly $727 in the bank. i felt better after i ate. still tired though now that ive been up all night and 10am will soon be here. really need a phone so i can call that place for that bus tour to Jean, etc, but the max expense i can stand is still $16 (1%) which certainly dont allow for motel rooms, batteries phones or anything for quite some time still.

Yesterday the guy next to me bought in for $60 and ran it up to @$600 in couple hours. I left when my buy in of $200 was over $1300 (5 hours of play).

    Ask Josie, she plays there.

  15. So Tony, I don't know if your increasing bankroll is due to your getting back on your tight game or due to variance. I guess we will see. Just make sure you continue to play smart and keep your wits about you if things start going bad. No tilting, right?

    1. Hey Tony,

My name is Cap and I played poker with you about a year ago at Bills casino in Las Vegas. I am happy to see you winning! I wanted to let you know about a bus called the Mega bus that will take you from Los Angeles to Las Vegas for about $25-$30 each way.

I live in the Los Angeles area and am driving to Vegas sometime between September 5th and September 9th. If you are still in the area and need a free ride just send me an email. If you are in Vegas while I am there, I have several free room offers mid Strip, but for mid week only (as I am a low roller). I would be happy to set one up for you as I could never use them all.

I will provide you with my anonymous email address as I don't want my email address to be seen by all of your followers.

    1. Too old?
You are in your prime working years as man.
The 40's are when most men start to find all the studying and hard work of their 20's and 30's is beginning to pay off.
Your 40's are the time when you should be feeling the pressure of finances start to ease.
Your 40's are when you start making plans for your retirement.
Your 40's are when the fruits of your labour begin to ripen, you start taking those dream vacations, you start staying in better hotels, you buy a nicer car, you understand and appreciate the benefit of leather soled shoes.
Your 40's are when life BEGINS Tony.
      You are NOT too old.
It's your unwillingness to accept that almost everyone on the planet can see the path you should be on, the direction you should be heading and the life you should be aiming for except you.
You constantly ask for advice but are rarely willing to accept or act on said advice....people find that exhausting.
If you could just put your stubbornness aside for ONE month.....just one month and try life the way others suggest you try it, even offer to help you do it....then you would be able to make an informed decision.
You could say...well people, I tried it your way and you know what....thanks very much, you were all correct, my life is much better now, I wish I had have listened sooner to you all.
OR...you could say, well people, I tried it your way, you are all full of shit, have a nice life, I'm going back to doing my thing.
The only thing you are too old for Tony is that you are too old not to know that a proper diet, sleep, housing, relationships and personal hygiene are required to maintain good physical and mental health.
Click your heels, pony up the hundy and change....and head to Kansas.
Whilst you are there....have a long hard think about all the things people have tried to do to help you over the years. Have a think about what steps you are going to take to get your life on track.
One thing I know for sure Tony....40 something is far too YOUNG to be curled up in a cardboard box on the street, dead from malnutrition and infection that could have easily been avoided, if only you were willing to listen.
