it would probably be a good idea to never leave cali to go back into Vegas, or anywhere else for that matter.

why? because as long as i dont leave the los angelos area, i cant ever lose any money on any machines. i'm doing ok here, won $132 on day 1, won $63 on day 2, and $72 on day 3. (although $39 of tonights win came from a mixture of stud and omaha8, so my $40 NL results are now not so clear). thats still more than i would make if i had any other type of income or employment so of course poker is what i should be spending my time doing. still have not played the new $100-300 PLO/plo8 mix, i just cant bring myself to risk buying in for the $100 min in that game with such a small roll. (unless i was stuck a lot more than that, then i might be able to justify it).

i'm probably making an err not finding a weekly motel near Hollywood park, since that bus runs all the time, and theres a lot of motels on that main road. simply because of the AA $100 24 hour promo im told they have. i have a hard time believing thats true, and if true, its cost me between $60-70 one time so far. where i folded aa postflop but wouldnt have if the promo was going. id have lost over $30+ i had in front of me and got $100 back. Id also have to lift the old ban for hiding out in the raceway asleep upstairs, but thats been over 5 yrs ago probably longer, and wasnt for any behavioral issues. im sure most people have not been barred for far less.

i think i got barred since i wasnt a known regular customer, and they thought i was some bum, also theyd spent some time looking for me on another floor too. But they did mention at the time i could talk to someone after one year had passed.

i think i might be missing out on about $200 a week not doing that promotion. so it would be worth trying. also it would be nice to have a room of my own too.

The main thing is to be where i can find the easiest games, (to spend all my time in those games playing) and to play my best in those games. and i feel this is much easier in cali than in vegas, and i feel i mightve wasted a lot of years of my life by being in vegas instead. not so sure that was a wise choice, i should probably try to remain in the area and save up 10k or so. its too bad WEC dont read this blog anymore, he could probably give advice on this. in the same light, going up to WA would probably be a poor idea too, especially since pokerdogg aint been around and i dont know how to reach him. why is it a bad idea? because i think the games would be 100x tougher to win in, more like vegas. and for that matter i guess that would also rule out living in reno.

but what about fresno or sac? or are those games much tougher than the commerce area? and are the games in pechanga any different than commerce? truthfully i dont have enough LA experience to know. even if i returned to vegas or Jean, id still feel like i made progress because the last time i returned to Jean and Vegas from cali, i had LESS. about $600-700 less. i dont even know if the games at places like Barona are different than LA, since i wasnt playing $40 NL while in san diego, being much more broke at the time.

i am a bit afraid of leaving the commerce, due to not knowing where id sleep i sure dont want to have to fall asleep outside again, and besides at the commerce my cash is always behind the cage so i feel safe, never having to have any cash on me once i leave the casino. i dread leaving the LA area for good and carrying it all with me when i do.

and i took my 33 chips off seals and sent $36 to my bank it should arrive within a day or so. i have 4 chips left there, one buyin only. but i still have $20+ on bovada. have not been playing online at all lately since leaving Jean.

  1. Are you sure that's the right thing to do is sell almost all of your BTC? You had .037 BTC and now you're down to .004. When you grinded up this time around, you had to buy BTC in order to be in action at SWC once again - you paid around $1k / BTC for .020 BTC. Had you kept your BTC on there and not sold one, you would have had plenty to work with. Why not keep your .037 on there until you're ready to stop playing? Perhaps sell when you get to 1.0 BTC or 0.5 BTC. At that point, it becomes a more significant amount of money to you...

    1. 33 chips isnt enough to try to build up, and if it becomes play money tomorrow, ill be glad i got the cash while i had the chance. i see no way it can do anything but drastically fall in value so why not take the free money? last time i had over 200 chips on seals it was when bitcoin was only about $80

    2. mainly, i need $30 before tomorrow to pay my Virgin Mobile bill, and i didnt want to have to take it out of my roll causing it to drop, so i found an alternative means of financing it.

  2. Hi Tony, I am still around, just not posting much because there is not much new I can say.

Not sure why I would be a factor for you to travel to WA, I don't live there. I may be able to meet up for a day to play poker, but unlikey I will be able to do much more than that.

BTW, you know how to reach me, you have sent me emails before thru my goolge account.

Bad call. You should GO! Even if it's just to hang out in the lodge and see beautiful country, or make another friend in Alysia. You had absolutely nothing to lose by going. You had a whole new experience to gain.

Branch out, Tony. Enjoy the world while you're in it.

    3. Okay, then I guess attending a Zumba aerobics class is out of the question for certain. TBC, you are going to go crazy if the ONLY thing you do is play poker and sleep. At least try to walk down to the outlet center and look at the store displays (make a right on Telegraph after leaving Commerce and walk like 10 minutes). What are your hobbies? Is there music that you like? Types of movies?

  7. How do you like the atmosphere at the Commerce? I've never been, and have heard that the area surrounding the casino is sketchy, but that the sheer size, amount of games, food service, etc... as it relates to poker is pretty impressive...

    2. Think of poker rooms like retail stores. You have your sad little rooms like Palms and Treasure Island. Those are 7-11s. The Golden Nugget and Binions are slightly less sad but still smallish. Maybe a CVS or Rite-Aid. Then you have Bellagio. Kind of like a Louis Vuitton. Venetian is a Macy's. Aria is like JcPenny's. Commerce is a Cosco or a Sam's Club.

  10. well i made $203 but dont really feel all that great, because i won that many hours earlier. in the last 4 hours i ran $40 up to $81 then gave it all back on a few bad plays in the final hour, after id played too long. but the spa dont open til 10am. i should go elsewhere or take a room, or ride the train home for awhile. the roll is at $2700 now, after paying the phone bill and getting the money from Coinbase. i'd really like to pass $3k havent had that since sometime in Oct 2012.

on one hand, i had QK clubs, flop 9T4 with one club, i called a bet of $5 and a raise to $12, (hey we all had chips behind) and the turn comes 6 putting a 2nd club on the board. so the asian kid whose been running poorly goes allin for $35, i call, and river the flush, and he feels i played it badly. he has QQ but i had lots of outs. its not a bad call if the guy behind me calls too, and theres already a bit of money in the pot.

  11. seems theres a TON of cheap housing options in a nearby state, that has several casinos ive either never visited or not been to in years, seems those casinos are now 24 hours, and are a quick and inexpensive amtrak ride from LA. i might visit but unsure about access to public transit and how safe some of these $400-600 monthly places are

  12. Okay, I am confused. Seems to me you found a cash cow (no losing sessions, always a game) yet you're just going to pack up for parts unknown? You're not going to get a better casino than Commerce for action. It's goig to be (comparatively speaking) a ghost town anywhere else other than back in Vegas. And everyone can agree that your affinity for VBJ or VP is a serious leak in your bankroll. Stay awhile, run your bankroll up, and then figure out what you need to do.

    1. well after a few days at the commerce, i get tired of having nowhere to live, (living in the spa for $35 a day) and being unable to afford hotel rooms due to much higher prices than i pay elsewhere. so i just want to be where i can afford a room for an extended time.

    3. I'm leaving for Bay Area/Tahoe/Reno next week which I expect to be a poker wasteland except MAYBE Peppermill. But then my income has nothing to do with poker. Honestly TBC, you are confusing quality of life with trying to run up your bankroll. You need to decide what your priorities are. I think you need the money, considering how much of your life is consumed by your BR (or lack thereof). If you for parts unknown because of cheaper rent, HOW ARE YOU GOING TO GET THE $ FOR RENT?? This $40 game at Commerce is an ATM.

      Delete
    4. i agree with u about the $40 NL being an ATM, but i understand why others dont. others who dont actually play in LA and are only used to Vegas dont realize its possible to beat the rake after all. i never realized this til more recently when i started playing the $40 NL a lot. why are u going up there? pot of gold tourny? where does ur income come from? the main priority is to get back the good sized roll i had a couple years ago.

  13. I think your judgment of Vegas vs. LA casinos is off base. Unless you go to San Manuel, Pechanga, Morongo or someplace like that, where there are lots of OTHER things to do besides Poker, Destination poker rooms are always going to have a higher win rate than other rooms, simply because of the amateur inflow of non-poker players that are likely to be at your table (the nightclub adjacent to the MGM poker room is a good example. Commerce, The Bike, Hollywood Park, Hustler, people are going there to play cards. That's it. Unless you are playing on a weekend, your edge in the long run is going to be incredibly thin. Plus, you can't play very deep in these casinos. Most of the NLH games are 2/3 and 2/5 and you cant buy in for more than 35-40 BB. It is fine that you're achieving some short-term success, but I doubt that will show itself in the long term unless you play strictly on the weekend.

    1. none of this is true, its much easier to win at commerce than any of those places, and most of the games are NOT 2-3 and 2-5 blinds, games with 2-5 blinds, dont even exist here, just 3-5 blinds, and theres more $40 NL $1-2 blinds games than any other NL game.

  15. new roll $2844, was in for 2 buyins for a total of $75, and cashed out with $239 after some of the players that were bad went broke, and some of the good ones had just sat. nights not over for a long time though. need to soon get a seat in a game again. saved money once folding JJ preflop. now that i realize i can win enough to afford the $350 rent that motel wouldve wanted, i think i made a mistake not taking the weekly instead of just leaving, even if the total paid of $70 once and $35 4 times at the spa was a bit less. just so i could use it ANYTiME and never be forced to stay up all night long til 10am.

  16. A guy was at my table a while ago who i must of mentioned the blog to on a previous trip, (since he brought up the subject of having read it) and i beat him on a HUGE pot that brought my roll up to $3002, details of which are about to be posted. also a young asian next to him was curious about the blog (i showed it to him on the smartphone that only works with wifi) and he then said (while reading the comments) whose this girl whose hitting on u? also the commerce wifi (called the crowne plaza wifi) works great in the hotel side, and i can get anything online i want, but the actual commerce wifi (which is new) in the casino itself u log into from ur cell uses a different service, and the web filter on it BLOCKS both adult sites, and tons of forums, blocks even the bikes website, AVP, 2+2, and lists the reason for the block being subject content matter+gambling. they need to fix this ASAP. not sure which employee to speak to. i doubt theyre even aware of this since they never had a seperate wifi for the poker room before. its all blocked by their webguard adult filters.

the restaurant in the suncoast was the same way, if anyone remembers. and heres the hand history.

i had 99 and we limped around, several of us. flop comes 256 with 2 clubs, and i check, and the guy who read my blog who rebought, won a pot, and has 80-90 in front of him bets $20. i call and others got out. turn comes 10. i check, he bets $25 and i call with about $20 behind. (probably not a good idea). river is a safe card for me, its 7. so he missed any flush or overcard draws, and i shove my remaining chips, and show my 9 of clubs, hoping he will think i have either the nut str8 or be on a total bluff. (which is what u want people to think--an either or situation--when its NOT). he thinks, and finally calls and mucks when i show my pair. i wonder what he had? i wanted him to either call with a smaller pair or muck a better hand. so i had to make it an either or situation

    1. Can you explain your brilliant table play in more detail? Seems to me, even without showing a 9, you either had him beat (either) or you didn't (or) and he, as a poker player, would have to decide (a) either he was beat; (b) or he wasn't beat. So, how exactly did you level him with your mind games?

      Delete
    2. because making him think i had the stone cold nuts (or a total bluff) is different than making him think i had the hand i really had. he might call with only ace hi busted flush draw, or fold a pair of tens.

    3. It's shocking how you never learn your lesson. Just a week or so ago, you were talking about getting off-line and not wanting people to know about your blog, etc, because it was hurting your game. Now, a short time later, you are discussing your blog at the table and even showing it to people on your smart phone. At least something here is smart . . .

    4. Tony:

Sorry to hear about the filters blocking your access to porn and gambling. It must be frustrating for you to have others seek to impose their morals on you.

On the hand played, you think ANYONE who has played with you thinks you're calling to the river with an inside straight draw? That's pretty slim, sir. I don't think showing that hand puts any thinking player into folding a better hand. HOWEVER, I do think showing that particular card may get a worse hand to call (more so than not showing), because it was a club and does imply you may have been on a busted club draw. I think it was a pretty good play, although not for the reason you listed. The key would be whether you EVER show a card when you don't actually have a hand. I've never seen you post a history when you've done so - - - but I can't imagine that ever really influences play at the $40 nl game...

  17. new roll $3237, up about $800+ past 5-6 days from $40 NL. ive never bought in for more than $60 since coming here. trying to figure out when and where i should start paying for a place by the week. do u think theres any chance of my bags still being there if i go back to that hotel for $350 a week, and if hed rent to me? i doubt the bags are there because i didnt bother to pack them. the accent annoyed me because i couldnt understand anything he said no matter how often he repeated it, so i dont know what he said when i mentioned i had nowhere to put the bags, but that id give him $20 if they were still there when i came back in a week or so.
