Venetian

am eating in the burger bar next to the V pokerroom, for $15 just for a burger and fries--severly overpriced--not even all that big--but i paid with part of the $71 in comps i discovered i had. using comps for tourny buyins would be far more wise.

i was stuck $340 on the VBJ before i left Jean, and i guess i shouldnt have came up here with Benny, and ill really be screwed if he dont bring me back to Jean later--for all my things are still in Jean. and i never checked out of my room and its still good til tomorrow.

i just wanted to do something else, but i wouldve lost quite a bit less had i not raised my bets way up trying to get unstuck.

now my roll is down to only $2392. thats awful. and it will be less, just found out they dont take the tax off here when paying with comps like they do everywhere else. actually i think its illegal to charge tax when using comps--so i could call gaming if i wanted to make a scene.

there goes me having enough money to make a go of it in Biloxi

anyway--the hand i wanted to post. I bought in $100, and had just won a pot a hand earlier i was still counting, and turns out id just got my chips up to $220, and shouldve quit, but i was doing ok, in a fairly tight game with lots of regulars, and needed to win more. Ah, greed.

so a guy makes it $12, the one loose kid makes it $50 after another guy calls, and the 2 guys on my left been talking nonstop how the kid is always trying to make moves with nothing, and theyre right. so i shove, the asian guy calls, and the loose kid folds after his $50 raise.

asian guy calls so fast i worry im behind, but no, he has JJ and beat me on the river. had i won the pot, theres the entire $340 back i lost in jean. so i rebuy $115 and lost that an hour or so later when i had KK preflop and the tightest guy reraised me allin preflop with AA. the 2nd decision was bad, but the first decision i did all i could do (got the money in preflop with the best of it)

But still, the games here are horrible--and seems the only solution if i want to win is to return to los angelos immediately. right?

    1. It's not a gaming commission issue, it's a department of revenue issue. 2. If I recall correctly, that question has been in litigation between the casinos and state revenue department for a long time, and just got settled by the state supreme court a year or so ago. My recollection is that the decision went against the casinos and sales tax is applicable to items purchased with comps. But I wasn't paying a lot of attention to this question, since it affected me very little, so my memory could easily be wrong. If you really care about it, you might spend a few minutes with Google before getting all huffy about the grave injustice being done to you.

  2. "in a fairly tight game with lots of regulars"

It's so sad that the only poker game going in the entire city of Las Vegas was a tight game with lots of regulars. Because if there had been a loose game with lots of tourists somewhere you would have been playing in it instead of the bad game, right?

    2. well all of the major large casino rooms, such as wynn and V never get any games with action--the only place u find action is in the locals casinos such as GVR and redrock--but i had to play where Benny dropped me off.

    3. But he's banned at so many places, it must be difficult to find a loose game. Most of the tourist donkey-fests I find are at places Tony is not allowed to play.

    4. i think most of u would be amazed how soft games were before 2008, and how much different it is now. i worry about the future, and feel i blew a wonderful opportunity back then, (and the same with pokerstars). i felt it was a sin to be rich and successful, so i blew all the money giving it away to those who needed help (Britni and Lorna) and on other things, and now i wish id kept back enough to work with--and ONLY gave it away while over $10k--and thats why im a lot tighter with my money now than i was years ago. u see, after losing 2 buyins at the V, and being down in the $2300s i felt like my 23 buyins was essentially 0 buyins, and that i had no money to rebuy--if anyone understands what i mean.

thats why i want to return to cali soon as possible--ill feel so much richer and play so much better--with over 50 buyins again for $40 NL. having more buyins helps u be more relaxed--allowing for better decisions.

    6. Vegasdwp--i doubt the games at MGM and Harrahs place im banned would be any looser than games at wynn and V. theyd all draw in the same mix of people walking up and down the street. if the wynn and the V is tight--all of them would be tight. any city in the USA is a much better place to travel to for good poker action than vegas is.

    7. lightning--that comment is offensive--i dont like it when women create indecent pictures of themselves--i lose respect for the women--and if im giving her money--that isnt why. just because im watched red tube movies dont mean i have respect for the woman. most of the movies are too gross to watch, and i have a hard time finding ones that arent gross that i can watch without getting offended and changing the movie.

and the vast majority of the woman wasnt spent on any of these things. it was to women i got nothing from but hours of online conversations every week, and friendship. and i felt like since they were female it was my obligation to take care of them.

      Delete
    8. Am I not remembering correctly that there were conversations you had with them that were posted in other forums where you offered Lorna several hundred dollars for a "sexy" picture of her? Please correct me if I am mistaken. And if you find red tube movies "gross," why watch them. What do you think you are going to see? You are surprised by the pornographic content of those kind of movies? And if you don't like it when women create indecent pictures of themselves, why would you watch porno movies where women get paid to have sex and have it filmed?

      Delete
    9. nope i never said that--maybe some trolls said that was why i did it. and i dont find the ones i watch gross--and if it turns out to be gross--ill change it. it becomes gross if i find something disgusting in the movie i didnt know was in it, instead of just normal sex. such as sex in the ass, a girl starting to gag while giving a BJ, a guy spanking a girl, or putting his finger in her mouth--anything weird i dont want to see that i didnt realize would appear in the movie--ill immediately change it. what i meant when i said i dont like it when women create indecent pictures--i mean my "friends" women i trust enough to enjoy conversations with and hang out with online or at the tables. id like to think they are "above" doing that. because i think only lower class women do that. this stems from me not really wanting a hooker--but a regular relationship with someone for longterm.

    10. I agree with Tony that Vegas is far down the list on my 'loosest' poker games list, and is not in my top choices for playing poker (but I love going there). That said, there are definitely places with good games to be found, one of my all-time standbys is Ballys, Monte Carlo used to be a nice hideaway, there are several that will have a real nice game going, you just have to look around.

(they cant be weak unless they straddle u know).

    2. What casinos are you banned from and have you considered writing to them to lift the ban? Vegas has a ton of touristy poker rooms and them banning you is preventing you from making a living. By the way, the rake in California is hideous.

I've been playing over at Peppermill in Reno and was shocked at how low the rake was in comparison. Wow.

    4. i think the "tourists" in vegas arent real tourists, theyre good tight locals back home. what i dont understand is why theyd want to travel to vegas, where the games are much worse. i think they travel here to play higher, lose, and end up in the $1-2 games for the rest of the trip. and Alysia--no point in writing to lift any bans til i have a stable address to get mail at. no point in letters getting sent back like when Grump and i wrote harrahs. but to say the games are better in rooms im banned than rooms like the wynn and the V is silly. and the game at the peppermill would be horribly tight, filled with nothing but rocks who make their living off poker, along with the occasionally donkey whose a local poker dealer or bartender at the casino. and the rake is not as bad as i used to think it was in cali. its only bad in the bigger games. the $40 NL the rake is only $3.50 and thats lower than the peppermill. its the $100 Nl and $200 NL and $300 NL that have horrible rakes.

    8. Tony says..."why would bally have different players than the wynn and V next door? the same visitors to vegas walk up and down the strip and distribute their business equally among all rooms. to claim the rooms im banned at have better action is ludicrous"

If what you say is true, then all the rooms should have the same number of players on average due to random distribution. Yeah right, 20+ years playing poker, you don't even know which rooms attract which type of players. Worse than that, you can't even tell which is a good table and which is a bad one.

Strange, not one local player whom went and played in Vegas thought the game was tougher there. Everyone I have talked to thinks the game is either easier, or on par with the local game.

    10. Considering that I'm snowboarding in Tahoe more than I'm playing poker, it makes sense for me to hang out at the Peppermill as a break every few days and as tight as the local rocks may seem, I'm smoking them. Especially at Omaha h/l. Holy cow, you show one or two stupid bluffs and the whole table calls you down on the river...O8 is printing money.

And as far as N/L goes...look, they're rocks. Steal their blinds. Make them crazy with bets on a coordinated board when all they have is an over pair. Don't let them limp in. Steal, steal, steal. I'm not sure if TBC's assessment of the players' tightness is correct. No rock is willing to put his or her stack in pre-flop with JJ. To me that's an average amount of tightness or a short stack move.

      Delete
    11. By the way, correct me if I'm wrong but it seems that the off Strip rooms are virtually all locals. I mean GVR, The Orleans, LVH, Golden Nugget, any of the Station casinos, etc, etc. have the grinders trying to hit the promotions and playing so tightly, they squeak. In my limited experience, coinciding your poker playing with the various conventions in town like the Consumer Electronics one in January might be the way to go. Twice a year for example Caesar's Palace has multi-day investment seminars and their poker room is filled with conventioneers. Playing everyday doesn't guarantee a win. Picking and choosing when and where to play and developing a schedule that coincides with where tourists are likely to play doesn't guarantee a win either BUT it helps. Major fight card at the MGM? Go there. Building construction supply show at the Sands Convention Center near The Venetian? You're there.

Just because you have skill at poker you still have to pick games where you have an advantage. You choose games with regulars because you think you know how they play and it feels less risky. You have to understand that means they know how you play too. It reduces most of the hands you play to coin flips because they know what you play and only play good hands against you.

no u pick games with regulars because for one--u dont know theyre regulars til u discover most of the other players and the dealers are people they know well. and also all the games in vegas are full of regulars. makes no difference where u go really. unless u wanted to waste 4 hours visiting 10 poker rooms in a car before u finally found an open seat at a loose table, this way of choosing what table to sit at is meaningless

      Tony -

That's just not true. You should be able to get a pretty good feel for a table before just by watching for 60 seconds. You should be able to notice how they're stacking their chips, how they handle them, how they look at their cards, etc...to see who is very comfortable at the table ("reg") and who isn't ("tourist").

As someone who plays in Vegas only 4 to 8 times per month, I certainly agree the games have gotten MUCH more difficult since 2008. Less complete fish. I disagree, however, that you can't find good games still in Vegas. It doesn't take a car and 4 hours; it takes being able to switch tables OR even rooms, if needed. If I start out at MGM, don't like the tables, I either move to Aria or down to Trop/Bally's. I don't know that I've ever failed to find at least one good game going just between those three rooms. I also think you're way off on playing at the locals joints. I live a block from Green Valley and am there enough to know the games are occassionally pretty good, but very rarely are they as good as strip games. VERY rarely. Those rooms are reg rooms. Sometimes there are loose folks with extra money to throw around, but mostly it's stocked with people who have more time than money and who know they can play again the next week if the game goes south.

You and I have talked frequently about your struggles to read a table and to identify a good one. I think a lot of it has to do with your inability to pick up on social cues.

      Regardless, best of luck -

      s.i.

    3. All good points S.I. Sometimes it is even easier than that, just listen to the loudest table where everyone seem to be having a good time. Take a quick glance to see if the table has several big stacks. If so, that's a good table.

I understand why Tony may have trouble identifying a good table, but I don't understand why he denies there are good tables to be found. Just bizarre for someone that spent most of their life in a poker room.

    4. Tony, at no point do any of your actions show that you believe what matters is the long run. All you care about is finishing ahead for the day. You'll play all manner of terribly -EV games as long as it gives you a chance to get unstuck for the day.

  9. Why is it that as far back as I can find in all your post, it is the +EV VBJ and VP that create all your problems? Do you ever actually win playing them?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. VP works different than VBJ. on VP--most every hand is a loss, except for rare occasions where u have an extra large win.

VBJ--about half the hands are winners, and half are losers. the losses at the +ev machines are usually just bad runs, or overbetting ur edge. or it couldve been machines like laughlin and slotsoffun, etc, where its hard to figure out how to bet them correctly since u cannot see the shuffle point like u can on the ones in Jean. if im going to play--its best i do all the playing in Jean, where at least im getting rooms.

i dont think ive ever played any +ev VP instead of VBJ. reason being the +ev video pokers are too high a denomination, and i really need a much higher roll to ever play them, and the variance much higher than VBJ.

so naturally theres a lot of losses at VP--when i look for the smallest denomination possible. a lot of the VP were 96-98% only. no wonder i lost so much.

    1. u cant sue someone for slander--unless theyre saying something thats not true--and believe me, people think NOTHING of saying things about me thats not true--and their behaviour not being punished by forum moderators tends to make me think society thinks thats OK anyhow, so wouldnt it be a double standard to get upset with me for doing the same thing everyone else does? at least i check out the facts first.

all this was publicly posted by the real alysia chang, (on her facebook profile) and is not blocked to view of the general public--u dont have to be a friend to see it. notice the 2 red rectangles on her profile too--click on them--and u will see the red rectangles are a statement for gay marriage--and her hopes the MT supreme court approves it. with just a picture of a red rectangle on a different color background--its easy for someone not in the know to have no idea what theyd symbolize.

so this being posted on facebook--is obviously something the real Alysia Chang wants the entire world to know. But hasnt it been determined this isnt really her posting, just a troll, and of course a troll isnt a real person and not being human--has no civil rights and deserves no respect--which can be said for a lot of posters on RTP. if for any reason im wrong--and alysia isnt really a troll--how would i be expected to know that with all the real trolls i deal with on a daily basis? surely it can be understood why i dont trust that ID--and it could even be hamsterdam behind the creation of that acct. u guys are very gullible and naive--and im far more paranoid--how else would ive survived so long with so little?

the only way to find out is to ask--and of course if thats her--and she wants me to remove the pic--then id remove it--but no one else has the right to make this decision for her--im sure she is capable of coming to her own defense without help. very unusual woman--to be skydiving snowmobiling and all kind of other very physically strenous things for really strong men.

    2. Tony I said they could sue you for slander. You meet all 4 elements with your comment. But you just focused on that one point and missed the rest of what I said. Reporsting pictures of people just because they are women is rude. Researching people you have never met and posting your findings on a blog is also creepy and will keep women away. You talk a lot about morals and values but you use poor judgment and then try to justify it by saying other people do it to you. It's very simple treat women with respect and be cool. Don't obsess over them you be you and if they like you they will be into you. If women are not into you then you need to look at yourself and figure out what you need to change. Money and looks don't matter it's confidence and trust. If women see you can't be trusted to keep quiet they stay away. Posting pictures of women shows you can't be trusted. I'm just trying to give you helpful advice and not be mean or make fun of you I realize you see things differently than me.
