Time spent with PPP and Lightning, even met Vinces cousin too

All in all, this trip back to Vegas has been a horrible mistake. im now down to $1487 and i had $1928 when i left los angeles. and only about $180 of it has been lost on VP machines. about another $180 of it has went on a place to live for a week, and the rest of it on poker losses, bus fares, food, etc. a great thanks to lightning for buying my food at Mc donalds one time this trip--at least that saved me about $6. and of course the ride home saved me even more aggravation and hassle, not many buses that time of night.

also since coming back to vegas, ive forgot my phone at least once at the stratosphere again too, left it on the same charger i left it on when i forgot it while catching the bus to los angeles.

Lightning claims he borrowed this car from some drunk guy--but its brand new and according to PPPs blog, it seems like he bought this car himself instead. anyway, im just relieved that he has it. without it, we wouldnt been able to go to the suncoast or the palms. (which is where we played yesterday) we began the afternoon at the suncoast--where i lost $60--(and i was already stuck $50 at the stratosphere waiting for him to come by) and i thought yesterday was going to be another horrible day.

there was a hand where he played like a big donkey and even VJ admits in her messsage to lightning on twitter. however, im quite offended she never answered back my texts at all to her phone. Also lightning told me about something really bothering her on her facebook page--and i cant see it. its not publicly available unless u are first added as a friend.

anyway heres the hand. its $4 to me preflop and i made it $10 with AAKJ. flop comes up KJ (and one small card) and i have the lone ace of diamonds with no other diamond. lightning is one of the 2 callers, and it turns out hes calling with nothing but 10 10 9 8 (and 2 diamonds). now is that a hand worth calling $10 raise with preflop in a high low game?

anyway, turn comes 9, and we all check, and im worried about the other lady in the pot hitting a straight. river comes 7, lightning bets and i call and lost. i totally convinced lightning i had a diamond draw, and he says hes glad he missed his flush. i also showed him the 2 pair on the river, and the ace of diamonds, but not the other card. soon after i lost the rest of my $60, but i did play about 3 hours. and then i left to use the restroom and dropped $12 on a machine on the way back to the poker room, if he is wondering what took me so long to get back.

so then we went to the Palms and he went to bed, instead of waiting for vince at 11pm. when i told him vince wouldnt arrive before then. sure enough, vince and his cousin comes, and he wont get back out of bed. so vince isnt too happy, and he hung out at the bar a short time, and i wasnt happy vince wanted me to leave the table and talk to him there instead of where i was playing. vince might see him today or tomorrow i told him he was still here for 2 more days. vince was also going to come to the suncoast at 9pm to eat, but we had left before then, and i missed seeing the texts until after i was playing at the Palms and had took the phone back out of my pocket. we both wanted to leave the suncoast as soon as i went broke instead of waiting around for Vince. i think lightning was really tired.

so about 3am or so, while still playing at the Palms lightning wakes up, comes and joins the game for a short time. by then im doing a lot better, and from having about $140 left is all when he goes to bed, to coming all the way back to $409, and finally quitting with $358, shows u what a loose game the Palms is with all the great promotions, odd they dont have more business.

the day before this day--though was REALLY BAD--and that was a day id hoped to see both lightning and PPP again, but no. was texting from the stratosphere, no reply, and finally got the bus to the goldstrike where i lost $15 online playing on UP omaha hi instead of hilow because i wanted to buyin for more than $5 and less than $25. the selection of games on there is very limited, and bovada has much better selection.

i left and went to the Nugget, and there was a big moose poker tourny in town, and over 800 entrants at the nugget and every table was full. all rich guys who think nothing of shelling out $500 for the entry fee. and u could tell by the way they played, i lost my ass there, 3 buyins total of $248. and thats why i went and played VP and made it worse.

nothing but limping preflop, almost no raising and flat calling $25 instead a ton of $2 limps and then hitting a set. i lost twice with a big pair to a set on the flop both well hidden.

and the day before, id met PPP and his friend at the Palms, and i wasnt winning that day, but i wouldve been up at one time had i not lost $72 earlier on VP trying to recover an $85 loss at poker. started running well late in the game, was down only $32 and then lost it moving to the $4-10 spread limit game with the $2 $4 blinds in a few bigger pots. i think PPP was upset with me for not coming to his game and wouldnt come to my game like he promised he would at first. or maybe he was upset because i remembered a hand history better than he did.

Unlike what he says on his blog, i was not behind him that whole hand. i walked up to him once talked, and then kept walking back to the opposite end of the table as him to see the final results, but not behind him again.

am still hoping to meet up with lightning again before he leaves, and i also wish a few other friends who never come here would come to see me, and ill probably be back in la very quickly for i cannot stay here where im dropping so much. no more NL for me while in vegas, thats for sure.

  1. So you're down $81 on poker losses, bus fares, food, etc.(1928-1487-180-180). It doesn't seem like poker is your problem.

  2. Tony, I joke around with you on here. But you are spending way to much time playing bust out Hold 'em games with limpers getting in for cheap just waiting around to flop lucky 2 outers for a set. You seem to be constantly stopping at machines to try and gain back losses. You been floating around vegas long enough to know that once your done playing at a casino take a bus out of there and if your going to keep playing find another game somewhere. What is this fascination with making your money back on machines. Don't you realize those machines took out so many great players and your stopping at them on a regular basis now. All joking aside, when i was with miro and the players from the seventies in vegas, they all developed problems here and there. You have done the Vegas thing for 20 years now off and on even when i lived out there and seen you. Don't you think it is time for a change of pace somewhere else. There are to many games all over for that stop at a machine garabage. I went through exactly what your going through. You know better than that. I have known you longer than anyone on here except your mom of course. You know what hold em is all about. If Phil Helmuth knew how to play when he won the world series he would have never won it. What kind of game is that to grind away in?

  3. Yeah, that is where you want to be with less than 2 g's on you. Los Angeles, you can't eat for a week with less than a grand out there. Use your head and travel to places with soft action out here where i am at. You can pretty much hit a pack of casino's now ever 3 hours you drive and even more card rooms. Use you head out in LA and put together a few thousand before you come back to vegas and watch no player hold 'em junkies out flop ya for 2 bucks. T.V. and Ivory and Helmuth and all those thieves took the game for every dime with the websites. They knew it would be nearly impossible for any of them to ever win a bracelet again. Such a joke to sit through those t.v. tourney's and watch such lame calls and bets. To bad poker can be a great way to build a bank roll. NOT if you stopping at every machine you see to get even that is retarded.

    1. JD, I can actually kinda appreciate the belief that you cannot win NLHE, not that I wholeheartedly agree. Where you fall off is stating that guys like Hellmuth or Ivey (Ivory) knew they would never be able to win a bracelet again. Hellmuth and Ivey have both won bracelets in recent years and Hellmuth in particular has continued his winning ways.

  4. The cops busted me. Should not have taken the car. Oh yeah - you suck at Omaha. You still have no idea of what I was trying to do. Time to retire.

    3. MIB - I never saw such a roller coaster poker session like you had. Nothing like getting pocket Aces and pocket Queens twice in the first orbit or two. Then hitting a set against me. Grrrrr. lol

    4. Cards dont matter. I was playing the player and the guy i flopped set of 2's against sucked....lol...... And you arent kidding in regards to a roller coaster, but at least i was able to book a win. I don't know what TBC is thinking. The game is easily beatable.

  5. Tony,

I am not a mathematician, but based on the numbers you provided you are about even at poker and your reduction in bankroll since arriving in Las Vegas is due to normal expenses and playing machines:

Left LA with $1928 and now have $1487 a difference of $441
    Expenses since leaving LA:
    Lodging: $180
    VP: $180
Bus fare and food: $80 (estimate)
    Total: $440

If my estimate of Bus fare and food is close, which I believe it is, you are dead even on poker, but your reduction in bankroll is due to normal living expenses and your VP losses.

It is evident that you refuse to acknowledge that machine losses, usually when trying to get back poker losses, is your big leak. If not for this leak you might be able to survive, however, if you continue to play VP you will go broke.

I am scheduled to return to Las Vegas again in the last few weeks of March to hang out with friends, play some golf, and participate in the NCAA Basketball sports betting degeneracy taking place during this time period. If you are around we can play some poker and have a meal, if our schedules align. I will again stake you and Vince in a tournament if we can work out a good time and location.

I have proposition for you. I will stake you in a cash game under the following conditions:

    1. You cannot discuss any poker hands played, neither during this session nor at any time in your life. Absolutely no poker talk at the table!
    2. You cannot mention your blog.
    3. You cannot mention “the roll”.
    4. You cannot use your phone, laptop or any other electronic device.
    5. You cannot berate anyone’s play nor can you discuss any actions by the dealer or floor (exception being if you need a ruling on a hand you are involved in)
    6. You cannot raise your voice.

You are free to discuss your slanted political and religious views, current events, food, health, travels, search for a life partner and any other non-poker and non-gambling interests you may have.

If you can do this, I will not only stake you, but pay you a small hourly wage that we can negotiate. As you know, I am a man of my word and will expect the same of you.

Having played with you several hours, at either the same table or in the same room at nearby tables, I can honestly say your table talk is your biggest leak, followed closely by your inability to focus on the game due to worrying about twitter, facebook, email, text messages, jailbirdbitches.com, hosinprison.com, etc.

I firmly believe that if you can plug this leak and add some discipline to your game you will not only survive, but begin to win consistently. You know how to play poker and usually have good reads, however, your attention is easily diverted and your table talk gives away way, way too much information to your opponents.

Do you have the discipline to do this? If so, send me an email, you have my address.

    Good luck,

    snevman

  9. Tony,

You are truly terrible at poker and these hands you post illustrate a complete lack of understanding of poker fundamentals. The Omaha hand is looooooooooool...why are you checking back turn you fucking fish? Bet turn like every time it is checked to you donkey. Christ it's limit

  10. won $42 at the Palms, new roll $1700, room expires at 11am though and thats NOT GOOD. must get a bit of rest. and i seen lightning one last time at the Mcd outside Harrahs, and he bought our food and then i took the bus home. those Palms promotions are so good it makes beating the $2-6 limit game reasonable to expect over $50 a day long run if u put the hours in. maybe i could survive in vegas, i really hate being without a place to live while in cali

    4. Brian we have books here in Toledo on how to understand reading a Omaha guide. I will post a link where you can purchase how to read poker books. It is in MP3 format. So don't worry you can listen as you learn to read it.

  12. Tony:

PLEASE read Ags/Bnev's, and other's posts on this. You keep thinking this trip to Vegas was a loss for you and you keep blaming the poker games here.

YOU HAVE NOT LOST MONEY ON POKER THIS TRIP. You lost on your idiotic machine addiction. On poker, despite playing some really bad poker games, you were even or won a bit, depending on how much you spent on food/other.

    STOP PLAYING THE DAMN MACHINES!!!!!!!!!!!!

    p.s. - re-read Snev's post - he's offering you a hell of a deal.
p.s.s. - you should make a post about Josie's situation. Lots of people read your blog and she did a lot for you. Do something for her and write up a post about it and include a link IN your post (don't cop out and say to go to one of the sites on the side - put the effort in).

  14. Grab some sleep Tony, you know it won't get any better until you find a good place to relax and make money playing cards. You're just beating your head in the walls and you know it playing VP and machines. I went through this a thousand times myself. Do you want to be stuck without a way to make money? You and i both know you have to move on from that Vegas bullcrap. There are way to many Casino's back east where the cost of living is much cheaper.

  15. why don't you read a book when your stuck and your pissed off. This will help you take your mind off what has happened at a poker game. Do something different, trust me your mind can clear itself and your addiction will ease up. You can re-train yourself.
