still here guys

regardless of what anyone else may think of my long absence (6 days without a new post)--i feel like im doing just fine. still holding onto a bankroll of $3113, after wins of $100-300 each of the last 3 days, (including today) and i know i dont want to end my blog--ive met a lot of very valuable friendships from the blog people id never met in real life otherwise. some might have disappeared (vook lester) and some i might never get to meet (zin, pokerdogg, wec, etc) but most of this week was spent hanging out with people i hadnt yet met. Mormoninvegas, (he claimed cizzle was a good guy even though he didnt try to meet up with me--but he did him??) and also the pokermeister who has a blog, along with tierscore from chicago. spent a lot of time with donkeytax this week also, and his advice and insight on the games is helpful too. i miss wec's insight too--his playstyle and mine are similar and his info used to be quite valuable.

and most of my time has been spent playing poker in either the Nugget, stratosphere, or the V with the one night spent at Planet H. mostly $1-2 NL, a little omaha8, and ive managed to hold my own, keeping the roll about 3k, but no real success, i mean its not growing any. but i am just playing poker, no more VBJ machines since leaving Jean. (except for showing docglock the machines in the Palazzo). the next day a guy who looked like hamsterdam (280 pounds) sat and played briefly, standing on 9, wasnt sure if it was intentional or not, but then he left a few minutes later. i moved to his machine, turned out he left $50.50 in it. and he never came back so i put my ticket in and started playing. i doubt he knew he left it. had he not already left to go home, id thought it was $50 of his money possibly.

ive found out it does help to divide my play up into multiple short sessions instead of 1 long session. also been playing on Bovada a bit, my $20 deposit is now at $75. u must realize--a lot of why i didnt bust out and end up on the streets when doing really poorly a year or so ago came because of bovada--that $1000 tourny win one time helped me out tremendously, and i think there was also a 2nd win of $400-600

mailed off moms card and birthday gift, and i still need a dentist, but my tooth hurt less the last 2 days. (still have most of the advil i bought) i dont think theres an infection cause theres no swelling or fever, just that it feels crooked and grating on the adjacent teeth. im pretty old not to have the other half of the wisdom teeth removed yet, so i worry about it. i just dont want anything cold to come into contact with it.

Benny would still like me to be living in reno--mom would still like me to come home for a visit--and id still like to be around good poker games. but to go to reno--cheaply--i need to go first to LA--then to sac--and then to reno. its a long drawn out process. and people were right about good games during march madness. and playing at the V, u actually see real tourists other than just europeans. i wonder what u see in the rooms im NOT at on the strip.

  1. TBC- now didnt you say when i found $20 on machine and didnt split it with you that it was morally wrong and even theft? So now it is fucking alright for you to blantantly steal that guys $50?

    1. well that guy left--and never came back, even 30 minutes later--i was still there, and he was long gone. i think he must of thought he had 50 cents left, not $50.50. he wasnt too smart--he stood on 9. but of course if id been with a friend, when that happened, and the friend was in bad financial shape and we'd both seen the money at the same time ,yeah id have split it. no way in hell that guy was coming back ever again for the $50 he had no idea he left--unless he did know he left it and decided to leave it for me on purpose.

  2. I have not disappeared Tony, I just post comments in your blog less frequently than I used to (just the other day I asked about the timing of the Gold Strike ban and the PHo tournament which you answered and I said thanks). the other forum I have clicked on a link from your twitter now and then but other than that will not frequent that forum much or create a login. I still post over at rtp but more in line with humor on occasion...

  3. Tony it was nice meeting you yesterday! Too bad there wasn't enough time to actually sit and play poker with you, but nevertheless, it was nice chatting with you in person. Good luck at the tables, and stay away from the machines!

  5. Tony the games are good all over town those four day's. That guy did not leave you that $50 on purpose and the people who don't call or text you back in ten minutes aren't dead or in jail.

  6. must say, i sure am glad Akgal got me into Planet H, (along with Chris the manager of course). i wasnt sure i could afford the $65 weekly fee into the tourny since the players wont ever chop--but after tonights 1st place win, that takes care of a lot of buyins. some of the players are really good, but most of them are quite weak, and i was lucky today to see the good ones get eliminated on bluffs. i even had quite the chip lead at the end, and offered the guy an additional $43 over the listed payouts to go ahead and quit and settle for 2nd place. (110k to 30k or close to that) with blinds of 4k and 8k. so i took $594 for first instead of $637, gave the dealers $20, and then went and played $1-2 NL cash there all night, and won $206 more. and then on the way home, stopped off at the V, the wynn, and the nugget where there was no game. but i did manage to make a $740 deposit in the bank atm.

  7. wondering what everyones opinion was of my chop, the tip, and am happy to say after paying this weeks rent im still at $3867 left. the only loss i had all night was an early $51 at the stratosphere. Ran into snevman while in the Wynn, might see him tonight. the only thing that bugs me is some of the regulars would like to increase the buyin in the monday night tourny. also, still worry about a big $300+ dentist expense if this tooth gets worse soon. But the games in vegas seem to be better lately, unless ive just ran a little better. my sample size is way too small--and i need a smartphone again that i can use--which means now that im a little better off, now is when i should put out the $15 for a new android charger.

    1. Congrats. Excellent chop for you. I wouldn't have made it if I were the other guy as he had a pretty good chance to win. One double up and he's 60K and you're 80K..

    2. Congrats on the Win Tony! I'm ok with the chop you suggested. Tip might have been a bit bigger but that is always up to you. Yes, do stash away some cash for a pending dental expense!

  8. Tony:

I'm heading to Reno on Wednesday. It's mostly a poker trip (with my brother and some old friends), so I should be playing most days I'm there. Anything specific you want me to check out for you?

    1. id like for u to check out the alamo truck stop in sparks, see if u see a vbj machine or a LIVE poker game, go by rail city casino in sparks-ask how often the $20 NL $1-1 game actually goes instead of just the $2-6 spread game, and arrange to get in contact with Benny while u are there. then id like u to go to the atlantis, and see how possible it is to get in 10 hours a day there for the free rooms sun-thurs. id love to go there to live free, but i dont think their NL game lasts 10 hours a day for that promo--and getting in 10 hours a day isnt easy, and $3-6 limit ud lose a lot in rake.

    2. In the hope of moderating expectations: I will almost certainly not be going to search for a truck stop in Sparks. However, if anything on this trip does bring me to Sparks, I'll try to check out the Rail City Casino. I don't know "Benny" - how would I "arrange to get in contact with" him? That seems like a really bizarre request. If I did get in contact with him, what are you asking me to do? How does me contacting "Benny" help either me or you? There is a very good chance I'll go to Atlantis, so I'll almost certainly be able to respond to the 10 hour part.

I'm not sure you really have an idea of how "poker trip with buddies" kind of things are structured - it's not "Tony's Big Scavenger Hunt!", it's more like, "Watch lots of hoops, play lots of poker, eat good food, make fun of each other" kinds of things.

Lightning enjoyed meeting Cutter u know.

    4. Damn, s.i., I mean, why did you even ask if you aren't willing to follow though on these reasonable requests?

    5. yeah s.i. shit like that wont get u into the inner circle.also,go by some dentists and ask how much tooth extractions r and randomly ask local hookers if they kiss their customers on the lips

    6. s.i.,

While in Reno, please find the three CHEAPEST dentists and find out their prices.

Also, find out cereal prices and if any stores give out free milks if you buy 3 or more boxes.

And find out the suitcase abandonment policy of the local laundromats.

    8. I already checked out Rail and Alamo. There's nothing good at Rail and Alamo is only good on Saturdays. There's plenty to do downtown, and you can grow your roll slowly without even risking anything. I'm hanging out at the Peppermill practically everyday.

    10. The Peppermill has a nice looking, new poker room (well 2011 but the old one sticks with me still), but Reno would have to be on or near the bottom of a list of cities for a professional poker player. It certainly is not a great place at the hours TBC loves to lurk. There are so many great places in the Western US to play, why choose a gambling town that has been on the downward slope for years. Seattle, Portland, San Francisco (maybe even Lake Tahoe), San Diego, Los Angeles, Albuquerque (also great games in Santa Fe and Ruidoso but prolly wouldn't work as full time playing there), Phoenix, Oklahoma, Denver, would all be well ahead of Reno as a poker destination in order to attempt to make a living.

    1. Not always. Remember that time you called me at 4:00am and told me to get my f****ing @zz out of bed and come get you out of some casino? At that point, it did not feel like a warm, fuzzy, inner-circle moment. Or the time you were screaming at me in the food court of the Riviera, because I had talked to both Claudia and Josie during YOUR poker tournament? Remember all those nasty things you screamed? Again....not a great "inner circle" moment.

      Food for thought, Tony.

Get a few more like that and then a break even week here and there won't bother you

  12. Happy to see you book some good wins Tony. Play slow and steady, no machines, just poker and don't be in a hurry to hit the $4000 mark. It will happen if you just continue to play steady, think about what you are doing and don't go on tilt. Remember it is better to walk away with a small loss and come back later, rather than try to get back a large loss when you are steaming. You can do it!!!!

  13. i had $4008 when i started the night, and i started off losing, and was slowly into the game for $250, but was never stuck more than $120+. but i was never ahead enough to quit either, the most i was ever ahead was $27. then the following hand came up.

a guy makes it $8 preflop and i have AK and call, as do 3 others. flop comes up A58 with 2 diamonds, of which i have the K. a different guy in the SB goes allin for $42, i make it $102 and a guy who has me covered shoves for about $250. folds to me, and i call (he had 2 pair). was that a bad call? was hoping for a flush draw, and id have too much of my stack already committed.

  14. earlier, i was proud of myself for a bluff i made. raised preflop with AK hearts, and got 1 caller. flop comes TJ6 with 2 clubs, we both checked, turn comes J for 3rd club, he bets $15 i called. river comes 8 for 4th club. again he bets $10. i have nothing, but i bet $37 and he folds.
