Benny, josie, and PPP--thanks.

Didnt realize til i looked it had been 5 whole days since i last updated the blog, so i figured id better. and todays entry will be shorter, the last entry was quite popular.

Got some better news today, roll is back to around $3400, and my hourly win rate is up to $23. Thats all for $1-2 NL, and i dont want to track other games for 2 reasons--maybe 3. u see, i really shouldnt play ANY poker but $1-2 NL, (much better results than in other games)--its not 1995 anymore--and i dont know how to filter results, it would show up all games as one hourly rate, really giving me NO idea as to how im doing in any one particular game.

im using the application called "poker session logger" for an android phone. its a free application. does anyone have any ideas for a better "free" application, or know of a better android "paid" application? there is a filter, but its extra work to try and figure out how it works.

and someday if i had a lot of money, id find a poor person, and offer them money to teach me how to drive too. lots of stuff im not very good at, only thing i do excellently is poker and BJ. the thing im the worst at and most scared to do (and never do unless its online) is talking to women.

and the type of women im most attracted to DO NOT USE the net, so they dont know about me. thats why they are with all the street bums, those are the only guys who arent scared to approach and talk to them. the women who do use the net, want a guy in much better financial condition cause they are a lot more successful. i like that type of women too, but i want to feel loved and needed the next time too. u see, Claudia paid for EVERYTHING which was nice since i have no money to date.

Found a place i wouldnt mind staying at long term, good location, working fridge and microwave, and only $400 a month if i was living there longterm ( quite a bit higher if u pay weekly) dont seem to be any bad tenants around, the guy next to me fights with his GF, and she smokes a pipe (not sure which kind of drug though--hopefully just weed), but its not someone i feel uncomfortable around. i dont think its his GF either think shes just poor and needing help and took up with him a few days ago from the conversations im hearing, he dont know her nearly well enough yet to trust her in his room alone.

u see in vegas, i never really stayed around longterm anywhere, cause i always though the price was too high so i was still shopping for something better, either that, or i felt unsafe. but $400 a month--u really wont find anything better than that. i will need to buy a fan though, no air conditioning. no wifi either. i might need to pay for better broadband. cricket sucks so bad i cant play games on facebook no more.

but i can play on bovada, which is usually what im doing while i type blog posts. am still about $31 of my $20 deposit. i know my hourly win rate in live $1-2 NL will decrease, $23 an hour is too high, even pokerdogg dont win that much an hour in it, and hes a real expert, but i still think it will be a lot better than most of us think it will settle at, including me. (ive been estimating my hourly rate at way too low).

if i ever decided to play tournies during the wsop--i think id do best at playing satellites than the ones that are top heavy. that being said, many of my friends did quite well this year, and i should try to lift some very old bans. particularly memphis mojo and miamicane and im sure other readers or people i know also did well but who were they?

i didnt wake up til about 2am, so i didnt go to the sat 10pm drawing, but i doubt i missed anything. mightve saved myself a big loss. i do keep very weird hours. Probably helps me win at poker when others arent as well rested. new roll, $3416 and thats quite good. thats a lot of money for reno.

would like to thank Benny, if hes still alive and not in jail, for inviting me to come to reno, and also Josie, who helped to make sure i followed through. he might be, he hasnt been to the promotion at the casino in sparks, and with his bankroll, its worth over $200 an hour longterm to him. Sure hate not being able to meet pokerdogg though.

also a big thanks to PPP, who kept me in reno and helped me avoid what probably wouldve been a horrible mistake by traveling when i could least afford it.

  1. new win rate is $40 an hour, for about 28 hours of play tracked on the phone over a week or so, and i know that cant hold up. played about 3 hours or so in the Atlantis, sat with $50, cashed out $574, and then went to buy groceries and spent about $30 on food at the low cost grocery store across the street. am now at home playing online bovada. im glad i started tracking my results. $3906 total. thats the most ive had since coming to reno, but ive got to get a fan, its going to get hot til they get the air conditioning working.

  2. took 1st in the 27man $10 sng on bovada that i used my $10+1 ticket for (from a $2 satellite) for $97, so now my balance is $128 on there instead of $31. tried to get lightning to join it had he been around. of course then, i mightve not won.

  3. Tony, isn't this the same app you used a couple of years ago? I told you how to set up different stakes and filter IIRC at the time. I just tried the current version, seems to be easier to set up
now, just play with it for a while. I did a quick search, seems like another app called Poker Income is pretty decent. I downloaded that one to check it out, looks more full featured and easier to use than session logger.

  4. Hi Tony, great to see you back up to $4K+. Now would be a really good time to lock in a months rent of $400 and ease some of your worries for a while. As you said you won't find anything cheaper than that, and as long as you are comfortable where you are, you might as well lock it in and stay there. Good to see you keeping some kind of records for your poker play, even if it is only hold em at this stage. At least you will be able to see that your wins come from live poker games and not the machines. Take care.

  5. if you can't filter out different games you're an idiot

the reason you don't want to track other games is because when you do your overall hourly will be somewhere near 0

and your win rate of 23 hours over a tiny sample means nothing at all
    you need a huge sample

    1. the real solution is to not play the other games if they decrease the hourly so much.

also, those games arent as fun.

the idea now is to quickly get 200 hours logged to see how much im still over $10 hourly by the time it hits 200 hours.

    2. so stop playing those other games and definitely stop playing dem machines

      Delete
  6. and you can take driving lessons for 40-50 bucks a hour from driving instructors, maybe even less in the podunk towns you tend to live in

maybe instead of lighting thousands of dollars if not tens of thousands of dollars on fire every year in dem machines you can use that money to better your life (food, shelter, medical and dental care, learning to drive etc.)

    1. it would probably be best to give it to those in need of work, instead of a business. theyd not ask near as much per hour.

it will still be a long ways off before i have money to spare. but i can have it to spare next year if i only play poker til xmas. (we all know that wont have)

      Delete
    2. those in need may be cheaper but not THAT much cheaper
and they would still need a car and have to pay for gas and probably do a worse job than a professional.

plus who knows when you might get pissed off and just slam into something on a highway.

    3. btw how much do casinos need the money you keep stuffing in dem machines?

  7. ended up losing back $605 of the big win, only $80 of it from $1-2 NL though. rest on VP and gemtiles and live BJ. still not doing too bad, still at $3400

    1. Was the gemtiles loss on a good gemtiles machine or a bad one?

    2. You lost $525 on VP and BJ. I think you just cannot handle any success and when you do have a slight winning streak, you must risk it at some game which you know you cannot win in the long run. I guess it is time to face the facts and realize that this is your destiny, a life of roaming, loneliness, and homelessness. I think it is time for people to stop giving you advice as you (sad to say) are a lost cause. They need to focus on someone who actually wants help and will take the steps needed to improve their life. This is certainly not you. Best of luck.

    5. Tony did you even stop and think about how much better off you would have been had you used that money to pay for your next months rent? Over $500 lost on machines and bj. Do you even bother to read what other people post on your blog? Every single time you start to get ahead from just playing poker, you blow it in a couple of hours on machines. You will never learn from your own stupidity, and you will never get ahead in life as long as you continue to live like you have for the past 25 years. Wake up to yourself. How many people have to tell you to stay away from the machines before it finally sinks into your thick head?

    7. i actually think if i had paid a months rent, then i mightve lost about twice that on machines or live BJ.

      Delete
    8. Why would you think that? Is it because you have paid for a months rent, and you feel that is the same as a poker or machine lost, and have to get it back immediately? Tony, rent is a living expense. If you don't pay it, then you might as well move back into your cardboard box and take your chances with the coyotes and all them bad people who wnat to beat you up and rob you. Dumb Tony, just plain dumb. You know better than that.

    9. you see tony thinks if he even wins 1 dollar a year in poker he is a professional poker player. he refuses to factor in normal living expenses when trying to figure out if he should play poker for a living.

and you see he can't stay away from dem machines, even most of dem machines he plays are dem good machines and he just has bad luck.

you see food, medical, rent, clothes, phone, internet are not important expense that should come out of the sock roll. dem machines, sending money to internet women and paying to have his beard removed are all valid expenses.

  9. They will tell you not to play VBJ or VP on here which only makes you play more. I know the drill here uncle Tonyo. This has become your VBJ and VP enabler blog. Damn i know Reno is going to be cold in the winter.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes, but you would be at $4000 if you did not lose $605. It's time for you to actually separate your bankroll from living expenses, Tony. Seriously.

First, set aside what you need to live on for the next two months. This would be food and shelter. What's left is your bankroll. Also separate your poker BR from your machine BR. Don't cross contaminate.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i cant afford to take out 2 months living expenses. ($1200 a month maybe? or $1000 min?) that would leave me so little to play with, id go way down in income per hour because id have to hit and run every time i got $40 up to $100 instead of being able to keep playing til i have either 10% of my net worth on the table, or im too tired, or am too uncomfortable with the other players. also food and shelter are only about 2 3rds of my monthly bills, certainly not all.

      Delete
    2. Tony, this is just another one of your silly excuses. Here you have a chance to pay a months rent for only $400, but if you don't you will end up paying double that for the same month. Think ahead, pay the $400 and thenyou don't have to worry for a month and you will be ahead in the long term. It really is a simple way to make or save $400 (depends on how you want to look at it). Come on Tony, most of us are really on your side and trying to help you, but you need to work with us on this.

      Koala

      Delete
    3. how would i pay double that? id only pay $35 a week more. the amount id have to buyin for lower, and the amount i might go on tilt being out $400 is far greater than the extra rent cost, plus it would fuck me over if i needed to leave reno.

      Delete
    4. Okay, MOST people are concerned with things like having enough to make rent, eat, take care of their medical/dental needs and would think "oh yeah, I need to distinguish the money I need to live from the green stuff I bring to the casino". EVERY SUCCESSFUL PROFESSIONAL POKER PLAYER DOES THIS. The bankroll is NOT the net worth.

You were very successful with the hit and run technique. Why NOT go back to employing it after you've split up your roll into living expenses, poker roll and machine roll (you really need to keep your poker roll and machine roll separate! Even YOU said that you had a problem with the machines.) You do this, get your nose to the grindstone and GRIND up your poker BR, take a percentage of your winnings to go towards your living expenses and keep going. This is how everyone else does it.

Think about how bad you feel when you think you're spending money out of your BR to buy food and rent. If you had something DEDICATED to only living expenses that you didn't touch, wouldn't you psychologically feel better?

      Delete
    5. if you didn't blow 605 on the machines that would be half of your $1200 estimate right there. just saying

  11. Look like $25 to take the written test and then $10 each retake. Pass that then you need a registered car that you are insured on that's not a rental car for the driving test, then a vision test and $42 for a nv license. So download the book and pay $25 for a permit and then you can practice driving with an adult over 25

    1. You are a long long way from the long run, but good start so far. I think you need a minimum of 500 hours to get an idea of your hourly.

      Delete
    2. 500 is utterly meaningless

      Delete
    3. I disagree, 500 is not meaningless for someone playing a tight style (which has a lower variance), it should give a fairly good idea of the theoretical hourly. 2000 hours will give a much better indication, but I was responding to Tony's comment of 40 hours being the long run.

      Delete
    4. i think that by the time u have 2000 hours logged, so many months have passed, u play altogether different and so do the rest of the players, probably no longer the same town even, so the results are meaningless.

      Delete
    5. i know he plays tight as fuck but it still means next to nothing.
i've had 800 hour break even live stretches and 500 hour stretches where i win an unsustainable absurd amount of money.they're tiny sample sizes.500 hours is maybe 15,000 hands.

      Delete
    6. JB, are your results for low stake NLHE, and what playing style would you say you have? Just want to make sure we are comparing apples to apples here.

In your mind, how many hours of live play in low stake NLHE, for a tight player, would you say is the MINIMUM to get an idea of one's long term win rate?

      Delete
    7. Tony, it is absurd to think that after 2000 hour (1 year for u?), the playing condition would have changed so much. It has been over 5 years since I followed your blog. I don't think your understanding of NLHE has advanced that much.

    3. "im praying the K on the river cause i assume that will give them a boat."

So you believe that this deity of your can and will alter what card is under the dealer's last burn card, right? Because if you thought that the order of the deck was already set and unalterable, there would be no point in praying for a particular outcome, right?

Can you explain the mechanism by which this deity you pray to changes the order of the cards in the dealer's hand? Do the cards physically move themselves around, or do the actual cards stay put but the face markings on them change (e.g., the 3c becomes a Kh)?

Also, why didn't this god you pray to bring the king you wanted? Didn't you pray right?

Where I play, both here and in Vegas (smaller rooms) the timing of the games is usually from 7 a.m. the numbers start to increase beginning with the older retired crowd then around 3 p.m.the tables increase because of the 'after work' crowd, beginning at midnight or so the table numbers start decreasing to almost nothing until it picks up again around 7 a.m. It's a little bit different in Vegas the tables may go better a little longer after midnight. The busiest time in any poker room is generally going to be between 3 p.m. and midnight.
