A new life begins.

I just set a record for the most spent at Walmart in one sitting, but dammit, if im earning $19 an hour at my job, thats a decent living wage, and ill be damned if i dont live at least somewhat comfortably as lazy as i am. I spent $182, plus $10 for a cab, ($7.25 with tip, the guy helped me carry things). so my new roll is now at $3719. And yes, that includes the Bovada money. No reason not to count it since ive never had a problem with one of their checks bouncing, and with it being safely in my bank acct.

the only Bovada money NOT being counted is the $64 still on there to work with. Hopefully nothing happens to it since i probably wont be able to deposit anymore.

Just got done putting ALL the food away thats frozen or goes into the refridgerator. havent yet unpacked the microwave to test it out. i figured lying down to relax (and updating the blog--was of bigger importance).

Its nice to have a room i want to stay at for some time, for this is easy to get back and forth to either poker room, and now i have AC and a microwave both, along with fairly cheap rent still (less than Vegas that is) so no reason to consider moving. Plus i seem to get along with the employees as much as i can here.

So if im going to stay here, (dont see myself being in Vegas anytime in the next year anyway) I figure as much as im earning at poker, i might as well spend some of the money on stuff i need. u see, like i told those guys on RTP--if i am free to use the money on things i need--im not as likely to waste it betting on things thats minus EV, because the money will mean MORE to me if it can be spent instead of just being warehoused for gambling purposes. they made fun of me for thinking that, but surely some of u can see why thats true. still not yet received my packages of over 100 comic books though.

$182--what will that buy at Walmart? it bought a microwave for $49, a $29 set of sheets, blankets, pillowcase, etc. ice cube trays, pans, dishes, trash bags, a pumpkin pie, eggs--which were the first thing to fall out of the trunk of the taxicab and break-- peach juice, frozen burritos, applesauce, dishrags, dishtowels, ketcchup, soap, shampoo, eucerin cream, paper towels, microwave dishes, and a bunch of other assorted food items. i actually thought the cost would be far higher, more like $250 or so, and was pleasently surprised.

if i was to ever move, i would need another suitcase or 2. theres no way in hell id ever be able to take anything out of here.

i was in the game at the Peppermill this morning for $60 in the $1-2 (walked there straight from the bank after depositing the Bovada check) and briefly had it up to $201. i left with only $11 profit, a bit pissed about the following hand.

a new guy whose a $3-5 regular buys in deep, and opens in EP for $6, i know he can have anything from playing with him the other day, two guys call, and i look down to see KK (rob's favorite hand) and i made it $20. the original raiser sure enough folds, and the first caller made it $60. i smell aa, and unlike Rob, i couldnt fold, but to save commiting money if an ace hits, i decide to call and lay it down on the flop if the A comes. flop comes J56, he bets and sure enough i lost my whole stack to his KK. well not my whole stack, cause i had him covered, but most of the profit. (lost $130 that hand)

$3700 isnt much to live off of and play $1-2 NL with, but if u have a long term win rate of $19 an hour it might be ok. Also thanks to lightning for sticking by me. his frequent telephone conversations have proved invaluable help as i try to make a better life for myself and treat others better. my best shot to have a huge upward swing in the bankroll now will be next saturdays freeroll tourny. i understand the freeroll is a 2 day event instead of a 1 day event. Probably due to the extraordinary slow blind levels, and of course ill have more chips than many of the players, (not only at the end, but at the start too) and yes some will have more chips than me too.

  1. You don't have a "long-term win rate of $19 an hour." You have a few weeks of that. Worse, it was at $60 or so when you first started tracking, so it has been dropping like a stone. How far will it continue to drop before it stabilizes? Nobody knows.

And I assume that that is just poker, not your machine play. What's your hourly win/loss on the machines? Or are you not counting that? If not, why not? (Because you don't want to know, I'd guess.)

    1. so many lies in this one post (it was never at $60, most it got to was $44 and then stabilized at close to $20). its over 100 hours, so its no longer short term. of course thats poker, all of it $1-2 NL. i already know i never won on the machines, so why count that? besides theres no more play to track.

    2. 100 hours is long term? are you retarded?

  2. and in other good news, my Bovada balance just increased to $84 from $64. its a good thing if i wont ever be able to deposit there again.

  3. Tony, do your thing. Continue to grind poker. if you are a winner, then things will work out for you. Be humble. Don't worry about what Jose thinks. If you get your roll to $5,000, she will come crawling back to you. same as all the other women who have wronged you in the past. Money is power. You know this. Just stay focused. Don't let Ray distract you. For Ray is is likely possessed by the devil. His homosexual tendencies cannot be cured. Stay the course.

    1. well, the inside of this place certainly looks better now. and the reason i said what i did on RTP is because those guys were being dicks (trying to make me feel unhappy and bad when im doing so well). anyway Josie cares nothing about money--she just thinks im not going to ever change, and yet i have changed. i like where im at, and i like how im doing, and im making an effort to spend a much higher %age of my time at poker. and i dont go off on all the angry rants anymore on twitter, etc. its funny though, Britni disappeared when i had more than id ever had in my life and was always there when i had little and was living at moms house. i think its mainly due to her finding a boyfriend or husband (wild guess) her no longer playing on stars (huge part of it) and her being fed up i was never going to quit talking to lorna which of course i ended up doing. also she thought i should be closer to my family. and Ray sure isnt gay.

  4. "i already know i never won on the machines, so why count that?"

That is certainly not what you have claimed many times in the past.

OK, I misremembered. It has dropped from $44, not from $60. Point remains: We don't know where the drop will stop.

100 hours is still short-term. At 1000, you can start assuming it is approximating actual long-term results.

  7. Tony I can see a lot of positives for you in your last post. The main thing is that you are happy doing what you want, and being where you are. If you feel safe and secure staying where you living at the moment, that is great, because I know how much you worry about your security and safety.

Forget about the trolls on RTP. It does not matter how hard you try and improve yourself, they only look at the negatives. There are some people on there who spend their whole miserable lives doing and saying whatever they can to bring other people down to their own level of misery and childish immature mindset.

I know at times I give you a hard time, but I congratulate you on how you are trying to set yourself up to live comfortably within you own ability. You have done several good things in the past weeks. Keeping track of your winnings on 1 2 nl gives you a fantastic idea of how you are going. May I suggest that you try and keep similar records for other games you might play, including win/loss records on vbj and the other machines. Although it would be much better for you in the long run if you stay away from them completely. The point of keeping records for everything you gamble on would become obvious after a couple of months or so, when you can look back at your win/loss records for these games and know which ones to stay away from because it will be in front of your eyes in black and white. You are already seeing your results from tracking you 1 2 nl play, and how satisfying is that for you.

$49 is a great price to pay for a new microwave, because you do not need anything sophisticated, or with functions that you will never likely use. Go ahead and set yourself up with comfort and essential items if you are looking at possible long term tenancy where you are. Perhaps you can negotiate a monthly rental agreement with your landlord at a slightly lower rate. You pay your rent on time, and you do not create hassles or problems for the landlord. That is the type of tenant all landlords desire. If you are happy in Reno, then there is no need for you to go back to Las Vegas, after all it is your life, so be happy.

You seem to be located in an area which suits you in terms of being able to get to places using public transport, and the casinos you are playing in appear to offer games within your financial comfort zone. That is great for you, but you must remember not to have bad reactions like you have had in the past when things don't go right for you. (Remember Binions). You will have bad days at the tables. You know this. Far better for you to get up and go home for a couple of hours to cool down when you tilt.

Congratulations, every small positive step you take, slowly fills in the big picture of where you eventually want to be. Stay happy and take care.

    1. my biggest concern about this microwave is its 700 watt power i discovered. some of the food in my fridge recommends 1100 watt power, so how do i adjust the cooking times? some of it says to not use in 700 watt, and some lists about 50% longer cooking times. im not taking back all the food. i already had to throw out my $1.84 eggs when they fell out of the cab.

      Delete
    2. If something recommends cooking at 1100 watts and you only have 700, I would suggest you cook the item a little bit longer as per instructions, and then have a look at it, or taste it to see if it is cooked to your liking.

  8. my $1-2 winrate is slowly inching closer to $18 than 19, but now theres been so many hours logged unless the win or loss is quite huge, its moving up and down just in cents.

if it stays at $17 an hour once 200 hours are logged, ill be quite happy, for 6 hours daily at that rate is $102 a day. u see i won $80 tonight, new roll $3799, but it still slightly decreased my hourly.

    1. 100, 200 hours statically mean nothing
stop patting yourself on the back
it's not gonna stay anywhere close to 17 an hour in the long run. you primarily play short stack poker, are extremely results oriented and have huge leaks in your game.10 dollars an hour would be pushing it for you.

  10. You need at least 2000 hours to give you a an accurate win rate because of all the variance in poker.

  11. sure enough i lost my whole stack to his KK

How did your KK lose to his KK? Did he hit a flush, or is that a typo? If you lose KK to AA, well that's just how it goes. I wouldn't sweat it, to tell the truth.

  14. i came home, and found the fridge id complained about not being cold enough they tested it, and sure enough, the temp wasnt cold enough. so they switched it out and now i have a whole new fridge, same huge size. hope the old foods still good. still aint used the microwave yet either. ill make sure everything i buy is good for a 700 watt microwave, or should i just exchange it for a $10-20 higher brand before its too late? wish id known this when i bought it, before i was home reading the instructions.

also i got a few of my comic books in todays mail, but only 5%, the other 95% from a different shipper still ain't arrived yet.

    1. You should go back and buy a 1000 or 1200 watt microwave. The 700 watt ovens are really for things like cooking popcorn or heating up leftovers, etc. and other very light heating. If you are actually cooking meals/frozen dinners then you really need the higher wattage.

  17. Tony I saw your twitter post about being afraid to quit because you were only up $52 in 4 hours and behind your $20 an hour win rate, Don't let that stop you from quitting. You are still banking a profit for the day. Over the long run it only means a couple of cents in the hour you lessen your average. But think about the days when you quit far more than $20 and hour in front, it balances out. If you start chasing a set win hourly rate figure for the day, then you will fall into the trap of convincing yourself that you are actually losing for the day, when in reality you are in front. Take the little wins with the big wins, and let the average balance itself out. Just please don't undo all your good poker playing work, by hitting the machines. Take care.

  20. Actually, Tony, in the KK hand, as I said on twitter, I'm not folding there. I would have bet bigger than $20 though...not that it would have mattered if he had AA (and only called originally?--that's a bad play on his part, but whatever). When he came over the top, I'd shove and when he called and showed AA I'd say, well that's poker. And hope the next time I'm on the other side of that (which I've talked about on my blog many times). And also, pray for a King to hit.

But I'd have lost the same amount of $$ as you did on that hand, for whatever that's worth.

  21. my win rate is still barely over $18 an hour, and im holding onto barely over $4000. good news is i now have a more expensive microwave that works good, and im glad thats done and off my mind. im in the $3 plo $1000 guarantee on Bovada and i also got my comic books today. instead of having to pay another cab fare, a dealer took me there and back.

  22. well, as much as i won in 2 hours of play tonight at the Peppermill, im up to $4342, and my win rate is back to $20 an hour. broke 2 players, 2 hands in a row, and the game then broke up. first hand i had 888 on a flop of 8TJ, second hand i had AJ on a flop of AJ3.

    ReplyDelete
  23. As mentioned elsewhere, stop worrying about the win rate, and concentrate on just winning. For your level of play anything over $15 an hour is good, so just keep going.
