happy thanksgiving

I'm too tired to type a blog now although it needs done, so i guess this post will be quite short. just wanted to make a list of all the things im thankful for.

1. good friends like PPP and Rob, who arranged it so i could play with them at the Venetian instead of where they wouldve chose to have the event be held. that was nice of them to consider a casino they dont normally play at.

2. that i still have $9100 left or so.

3. that my room is covered for 2 days, and i have $74 in comps

4. that my bovada balance is now up to $223 from when it was down to under $30

5. that im still beating the poker overall in vegas, although i got nowhere the first day, i won $89 the day i was at the V with friends, (although i was up $360 before i played with them). and then i won about $125 at poker today. maybe i can beat the poker in vegas with the new larger roll after all.

6. that Herbie still around to hang out, and that i met a new guy named Dave, dap poker from avp. and Grouchie showed up.

7. for vince, and his house being available when needed. most of what ive spent in vegas is payments to vince, food, transportation, and losses on Bj games. glad im not down on the poker.

8. am glad i got off the first VBJ when down over $250, but being pissed about it, i then lost $400+ more on a much worse VBJ even money machine before i played poker. i know thats dumb, but i was trying to follow Cutter and chaperones advice to always have money for doubles and splits, so i didnt go play on the much better VBJ paying 3-2. but i feel i messed this up. all im saying is what im really thankful for is i didnt turn it into a $1500 loss or so.

but of course, i wouldve had to use the atm to do that.

9. that i played the nugget tourny, although very poorly, with a shove of A8 clubs over a raiser who called with qq and busted me. i was just frustrated i wasnt getting cards, and much smaller tourny pools are much preferred. one table would be preferred, although i cant stand the way they pay 2 spots instead of 3.

    1. thats not entirely true, more thought was told me i want to start off with the initial bet as tiny as possible, and its 25c a hand on the 7 hand at once type even money VBJ. its also $1 on the shufflemaster as opposed to $5 dealers angels and the V isnt giving me room comps either, or hardly any comps at all.

  3. shocked to discover ive got over $130 in comps at the V, no idea, i need to play a nightly $125 tourny i guess, and try to get free money, but those take so long, and ive discovered to my surprise i do a lot better in shorter tournys faster blinds less players. why is that, anyone know?

i think its because when its too long, i just want it over?

    1. Them $130 in comps cost you $800 or more, where do you get its free money. Comps are never free.

    2. Longer tournaments are good for better players because you have more opportunities to outplay your opponents, but this is only true if you have the patience and discipline necessary to play well for the whole tournament. I don't really like tournaments for that reason (and also because there is more variance in tournaments than cash games). When I'm tired, bored, or just don't feel like playing I like the freedom of a cash game where I can just pick up my chips and go home. If you use your comp dollars to play a tournament at the Venetian, make sure you're rested up and feeling good before the tournament starts, if not wait and do it another day. If you do play, good luck and don't get impatient!

  4. am quite pissed that i gave back almost ALL of the $800 i made at the V in the shufflemaster VBJ on the way back to my room, i should stick to the V dealers angels BJ instead. that way my big bets get on the board during better counts.

but its nice to have an hourly over $17, and to have won $800 in $1-2 NL in the first place. at least i now have $9400 instead of $9100, although i was briefly at $10,100

    1. You've never demonstrated that the shuffle animation on the Aruze machine corresponds to an actual shuffle.

And I already know your response. State law/fraud/etc. There's no state law requiring that a shuffle animation have any meaning. Try harder.

But not as well as grrouchie. I'll bet he's glad you reminded me to remind him to show up.

  6. Well tony you took that plane down there good thing one of your inner circle members told you to stay in Nevada. Oh, and taking a plane to find a VBJ machine you like, just like you were an attorney. I hope you provided entertainment for you blog guests. As long as they had fun right!

  7. No wonder why people never find their true soul mate. They have to learn the ability to identify a true creep!

  8. Tony, the game at the V was pretty fun and I'm glad I had the chance to come out.

I might have to play there a little more often to see how the room is overall.

  10. Tony, do you feel like you are playing better poker now that you are tracking your 1-2 wins and losses? Do you feel like knowing that you have to log your results after the session is over helps keep you from making bad decisions? I'm asking because when I started keeping track of my results I felt like it made me play better. If the answer is yes, I'd like you to consider tracking any machine or table gambling that you do (and also any other poker such as when you take a shot at a higher limit, you need to know how you're doing at those stakes too). While my first suggestion would be to completely avoid machine play, if you're having trouble doing that, perhaps knowing that you need to document your wins and losses will help keep you from playing the bad machines or bad counts, and it will also let you know over the long term if the machines or games that you think are good are actually good for you. And don't use your poker tracking app or your phone as an excuse to not do this - if you can't figure out how to track it using your phone, use a pen and a piece of paper and keep it with you all the time. Please consider giving this a try, and always be honest with yourself, don't "forget" to track losses or justify ignoring them this time because you knew it was a bad idea, you need to keep accurate records so you can make good choices for yourself. Don't worry about the past, but start keeping track now.

    1. it dont affect my decisions, but it does affect the amount of time i want to spend playing $1-2

  11. Actually I think a lot of Tony's decisions are based on whether or not he thinks it's ME that he's playing against. A few times Tony has mentioned that he thought a certain person was me, ergo he proceeded with a certain action.
