its a good thing i got off the bus at the wrong stop

well im still not sure what to do to settle down more, but i dont really want to settle in los angeles. it would only be a stopping point to go to biloxi phoenix reno jacksonville pensacola, toledo etc. why? because its where the amtrak starts out that goes to all of those different places.

i seem to be doing ok playing poker in vegas. am still holding onto a $17 hourly rate, and im back to $9017. won $164 in the $1-2 at the V, and then another $174 in the game at the wynn.

ran into AKgal in the subway next to harrahs in the casino Royale, and invited her to the Venetian. she started off not doing well, then later did quite well on a big pot, and then we walked to the wynn. also won a tiny bit on the VBJ at slots of fun before i checked out of my room. ended up later paying a $5 tip to someone in the VIP room to let me check into my new room early at a different casino when the front desk wouldnt let me. had i not got off the bus at the wrong stop, id have already been in the venetian and never ran into her. but i accidently passed my stop where u take the bridge outside TI into the V where i usually get off.

booked the room for 1 nite thru vegas.com with the $20 coupon in the email they sent me which greatly reduced the cost and made it quite affordable.

and of course still got the $706 on bovada and im wondering if i should move into vinces for real this time or change my address back to vinces so i could withdraw like $500 and add it to my roll before anything was to go wrong playing too high. it could be used to fix my tooth possibly without lowering the roll.

as long as i dont lose on VBJ in vegas, theres less of a need to go elsewhere. even though im sure both reno, biloxi and toledo are a lot better fits for me. i did notice the value place in pensacola and jacksonville were not in the right part of town to be convenient to the busline to the casino.

i do miss my apt in reno and would like to get back into another one where i have my own mailing adddress and own way to cook food and store food. although i would like a place a little nicer. what i dont like is theres no way in hell it can be as close to the poker room as the place in reno was. Only if i went back and got one of the regular lease monthly apts complexes in reno to be willing to rent to me could that ever be possible.

anyway i walked to the ABC store and spent about $15 for sandwiches, drinks, fruit etc for my meal, its healthier than mc d and somewhat less than the nearest buffet. but yeah i need my own kitchen. i didnt have that at vinces but its still a nice option to have.

  1. Hi Tony, Congratulations in getting your roll back up towards the $10,000 total, including your Bovada stash. I think you are finally proving to yourself, that keeping records of your 1 2 play is a strong indicator that you can be a good winner at that level. It doesn't really matter where you are playing, either Reno or Las Vegas, you have definitely improved your game, and you can build your roll higher and higher. Your records speak for them selves.

I notice you are still playng VBJ. Can I suggest to you that you also start keeping records of your VBJ and Dealer's Angels wins and losses. You can then compare the three sets of results. Over the long run it should then become a fairly obvious indicator to you that your best results usually come from sticking to 1 2 poker.

I don't think you really need to go anywhere else at the moment, you are doing fine in Las Vegas. But I fear a big losing session on the VBJ will set you off into running away mode again, and you will be right back to where you started a couple of weeks ago when you were down to just over $6000.

Remember how much easier it is for you now that your roll is getting back up there again. No stress, and you are not too concerned about spending a bit of extra money to get things you want. Take care, and I might see you next month if you are still in town when I get to Circus Circus on the October 19 for 5 nights. Good luck.

    1. Tony, Koala is dead on with his comments. If you are making 17hr playing 1-2 that's really good and since it's all net income it's probably the equilvement of making 25hr in a real job before deductions. You have a pretty simple lifestyle so that should be plenty. Obviously that number will vary but without poker you would be in trouble. Stating the obvious but machines, all of them will be your downfall. You dusted off a big part of your roll the last couple weeks. I'm in town but very busy but if I get out later tonite I will try to stop and say hi.

    3. I will check to see where you are later and try to stop by. I'm not exactly sure what's going on yet

  2. Every time you increase your roll by $1,000 take a day off from all forms of gambling and go try out speed dating. Good luck maestro!

  3. Damn...I was going crazy trying to figure out what you meant when you said you ran into AlaskaGal in the subway next to Harrah's and in Casino Royale. I wasn't aware of any subway in Vegas, tho the location possibly could have indicated you were talking about the Monorail.

Then I finally realized you meant the Subway, as in the sandwich place. Capitalization helps.

    1. Had me confused as well. I was thinking why would they put an underground subway/tunnel to get from one side of the road to the other when there are all those overhead walkways.

  4. was quite surprised when i asked the host at circus how i did overall since arriving in vegas in august and she told me it showed that overall, for all play there, i was down close to $1000. was pretty sure most of my losses were at the Venetian/palazzo and in laughlin and lake mead. i guess i had a lot more good days at poker than i thought to still have so much of what i came to vegas with.

    1. That is the exact reason why you need to track all of your results. You need to know how much you win or lose at each type of game.

need opinions as to why this is so insanely cheap, thought maybe its in a very bad area of town. there is a nice poker room there.

pretty much the whole city shows cheap rent on craigslist but i prefer living downtown by the casino

    1. So, Tony. You are making $17 an hour playing poker. You need to avoid machines. So, why the f*ck are you considering going to Evansville? Does Evansville have better action than, say, um, VEGAS? Or RENO?

In the words of Chris Carter, "Come on, Man!"

And, with that, I think I'm done commenting here. To the extent you'd like an opinion or advice, please just look back at the last 50 times I've said the same things on this blog and elsewhere . . .

      God luck, my hero

    2. im sure id make no more or less per hour in evansville than i would in vegas in their $1-2 game. but id save a lot in rent probably and would maybe feel safer depending on where id rent and might not have to deal with crowded buses in bad neighborhoods.

u see what i really need right now--that i dont have--is a nice safe cheap place to live, am getting tired of changing hotels daily in casinos again. i only have what i do now because ive been lucky on VBJ lately. walked out of the wynn poker room stuck $295 and playing poorly, then made $405 on the VBJ at the palazzo on the way to the V poker room. later won another $300 on VBJ at circus.

actually thats not true--#1 priority is to fix my teeth. the cracks open are getting so hollowed out, its severly starting to limit what i can eat without feeling funny chewing. but to pay the extra for the oral seditive to knock u out before the shot, u need someone to come with u or they wont let u

    3. i have a very hard time making a long term commitment to a place--because i can never find a place i like, a place thats also affordable, and also is safe. those 3 combined are next to impossible to find, except for vinces house--and its too far away from the casinos

    4. - hotel rooms are nicer than anything you can furnish yourself. Case in point: your place in Reno vs a room @ the Venetian.

      - you don't want to pay renter's insurance, first and last month plus a security deposit. That's just money out of the sock roll that can be used to gamble with.

  6. Yes, the Venetian is becoming a must stop for me in Vegas, even though I hate contributing to Sheldon Adelson's bankroll (guess you have to do what benefits you even though the guy is trying to shutdown online poker). Since my go-to casino chain for years (Harrahs-Caesars) has been cutting way down on promo dollars and free rooms I have been looking for some new avenues to pursue since late 2013. (before not only my free play has been cut to pieces, but they start cutting out my free Paris rooms and make my only option Imperial Palace--I will never call it Quad)

Venetian players club has been non-stop sending out three night free stays lately that generally include $175 free play and some kind of tournament, event, etc. They have been offering more than anyone lately inside Vegas from what I have found.

    1. cant imagine what u played to get that. was it a mailer? an email? ive never gotten a free room there, and ive played far far more than u, both machines and poker. maybe u need an out of state address to get it? who else got it besides u

    2. It's almost impossible to get a free room offer without an out of state or out of area address.

  7. How would you play this hand?
I will let you know what Villain has after a few replies.

    1-3 No limit holdem game

Hero - QQ - under the gun
    Villain - xx?

Villain has $152 dollars in stack and hero has him covered
Villain is here for a conference. Calls a lot of hands. Likes to see a flop. Does like to chase draws.

    Pre-Flop
    - Heros bets $15
    - Villain calls
    - everyone else folds

    Flop
    - 347 - with two hearts
    - Hero bets $25
    - Villain calls

    Turn
    - K - no heart
    - Hero bets $50
    - Villain calls

    River J - no heart
    - Hero all in
    - Villain calls ($72)

    1. I'm guessing villain had J7 of hearts and got there on the end.

As played, I do not like the river. What does the villain call with on this river? May be AJ of hearts? Would villain call this river with pocket 8's, 9's or 10's?

By betting this river, villain folds just about all hands you beat and only calls with hands that beat you.

The best play on the river is to check. If the villain is capable of bluffing to your check, call any bet he makes. If the villain likes to chase on early streets but will only bet this river if he has a made hand, then fold.

But by betting the river, you don't even give the villain the chance to bluff. You are making a bet that will only get called if you are beat.

    2. I think everything you did was fine apart from the bet on the river. You are never getting called by a hand you beat there ie likely a busted flush draw. You will only be called by flopped straights, kings that have hit and sets. In summary, better to check the river in all situations and evaluate if you think your opponent is bluffing if he bets.

    3. Villian has Jx(347) of hearts

    4. The Villain had K9 of hearts.

      Thanks for the advice guys.

  8. ive got some good news, and some bad news. the good news is im still over $9500. the other good news is i dont really think los angeles is the right place to be. i might move back to reno, am strongly considering it. the only place id really enjoy living in reno is this one high rise downtown for about $900 a month and i could afford it but its so far back and forth to the peppermill.

the bad news is my teeth are feeling quite opening and cracking, and its not tooth 31 which needed it before, its pretty much right in the front on top and it feels like 2 need removed, or if not removed then what exactly is done? i might need several teeth fixed.

the bad news is prices have shot up a LOT in vegas in a year. the place i used to rent thats fairly safe by the V and wynn is now $278 a week instead of $234 (including tax) and thats WITHOUT linens too. although they call that furnished, i dont.

also the place really close to the encore thats much safer (but to walk it at night might not be, ud want a bike) but its safe enough inside cause u must go thru the office first. but its $320 a week still no linens and they dont have vacancies til monday.

    1. Tony, how you gonna eat chicken fried steak when you got no teeth left?

  9. Tony good seeing you today. Get the teeth looked at. They are only gonna get worse with time, not better and if it gets real bad the pain may affect your ability to concentrate on poker or those machines. You also don't wanna end up in the hospital like last time. Get em looked at. Maybe next trip I will have time for poker if you're around. Reno is not a bad option but I will say that a weekly is a better option because you tend to migrate often for various reasons. Good luck in whatever you do.

  10. Ah Koala, I suggested the 28th because it's after the wedding in Cali. If you're STAYING at Circus Circus only during those 5 days, let's move it up to the 22nd. Same bat time, same bat channel.

    1. OK Alysia the 22nd at 6pm works better for me. Saves me catching a bus or cab back down from Hooters where I will be staying after I leave Circus Circus on the 24th.

trying to figure out who to pick for a dentist, ill need one quite soon.

won my 6th $50 don sng since Vook suggested i play them. had no losses yet over the past few weeks, although i have lost back some in the cash PLO8, am in the $500s now instead of the $700s on bovada. i got lucky here, i was at 4800+ chips and the other 3 were at 900 and 2 guys about 1500. blinds were 100-200 and i shoved on the guy with the BB expecting him to fold and let the shorter stack bust but he calls with aa and i have J6 offsuit. i hit 2 pair and win of course. so LOL.
