several thousand in big expenses looming that need paid very soon

First off, a quick reminder why theres some long waits for certain comments to be approved. email is messed up as far as being notified these comments exist.

and now i no longer have a phone. its still used for tracking my hourly (and when i get a new phone i dont think that can be transferred over) but unless im at a place with wifi its basically useless now for anything else. sure took a lot longer than they said for it to go off. Vince is planning to see about adding me to his plan.

on the way home from the suncoast, (where cooldave and i hung out after we left the Venetian) Vince and i grabbed some food and stopped at the BOA to deposit money. so my new balance is $11,100.

the day before, PokerJohnny and i played a tourny but we both busted out early.

turns out Dottys in Laughlin is open now, but only the hotel, they wont have their gaming license for the old Palms (renamed Laughlin river lodge) til nov 1. im sure the hotel room rates will go way up too. I just hope they dont drastically reduce or remove the 5 VBJ machines no one ever played.

sad news is while typing up this blog post, (since im tired) and want to fall asleep, i lost both the $50 sng and the $130 sng, so now im back in the $700s on bovada. but the good news is the laundry at Vinces house is completely done. Are the games at southpoint really as loose as 2 readers claim?

    2. Hi Alysia, I will make the dinner reservation for 6pm on the 22nd at the Steak House. It will be for two in the name of Peter Denver. Looking forward to meeting you.

    3. Koala, When will you be in Vegas? I may overlap your visit and wouldn't mind meeting up for a drink or something just to say hi to another of Tony's loyal readers. Hope all is going well with your recovery!

    4. Cool. I actually like the bar at the steakhouse. I think the dress code is fairly casual. No Mrs Koala this trip?

    5. Excuse the butting in, but which steak house are you talking about?

    6. No Mrs Koala this trip. She does not travel well on 14 hour flights, and Las Vegas, gambling, etc is not her thing. My trips to Las Vegas are my "time out" period where she lets me do my own thing. We are going on a three week cruise togeher in March 2015.

    8. Just curious. PPP, Avoid All Law, one of PPP's friends and I had dinner there in January. My post about it (and poker afterwards with special guest grrouchie, and a TBC Suncoast story) is a fun read at http://lightning36.blogspot.com/2014/01/january-2014-las-vegas-trip-report-part.html. PPP's humorous post is at http://thepokerbarrister.blogspot.com/2014/01/vegas-recap.html.

And oh yeah -- you will find that Koala is one hell of a guy (Hey there Koala!). It should be a fun night.

    9. Some of my favorite people in the world are Aussies (and the occasional Kiwi) and when they're in Vegas, it seems like they know how to have fun (I seem to sort of remember a night of Jager bombs with a bunch of Aussies my friends and I met at a mediocre magic show). I actually like the old Vegas vibe of the Steakhouse but totally miss the awesome happy hour specials they used to have. Like the $8 prime rib and potatoes (smallish portion but great appetizer) and the $6 crabcakes (3 for $6) and the shrimp cocktails in three different sauces for $7. I'll be sure to wear slacks and a blazer since it's that kind of place. I mean I'll dress properly.

  2. Tony, I know how scared you are of going to the dentist and experiencing pain. So I am going to put a one time proposition to you. You know that I am arriving in Las Vegas on Sunday October 19 and will be there until November 22.

If in the next week you go to a dentist and get your teeth checked out, and find out what needs to be done to have the ones fixed that are causing you problems, then I will accompany you to the dentist, wait for you, and make sure that you get back to your room after you have that dental treatment.

This is my suggestion. Once you find out what needs to be done, you need to make an appointment for the work to be done between Monday October 20 to Wednesday the 22nd. I will be staying at Circus Circus from October 19 to 24. Which is from a Sunday and checking out on Friday Oct 25. If you plan this right you should be able to get a room at Circus Circus for those 5 nights at a cheap rate through your host, so we will both be staying at the same hotel. If you need a second visit the following Monday through Thursday I will be at Hooters, but again I will go with you to the dentist and make sure you get back to your room wherever it is (as long as it is in Las Vegas).

Trust me that a check up to find out what needs to be done will not hurt you. You may experience some discomfort, but that will only be temporary whilst the dentist is checking out your teeth. Almost all dental work done these days is done under a local anaesthetic which does not involve knocking you out. Your gums are generally swabbed with a mild anaesthetic which numbs your gums before the injection to deaden your gums and teeth. You may feel a slight pin prick with the first injection, but you will not feel anything if more are required. Depending on what dental work is done, you may have some discomfort for a couple of days after, but I am sure the dentist can arrange for you to get some pain killers to help you through this time.

Tony please think seriously about this. You have said in the past that you need someone to go with you. I will do that. But you need to make an effort to do the following yourself:

    1. Find a dentist this week and make an appointment to have a check up asap. .

    2. If work needs to be done, that involves anaesthetic make an appointment to have this done some time in the morning between Oct 20 to Oct 22.

    3. Make a reservation for a minimum of a 5 night stay at Circus Circus from Oct 19.

    4. If more work needs to be done make an appointment for the following week.

    5. Currently you have just under $12000, Unless you have blown your roll before you read this, put aside at least $1500 to cover your dental expenses. ( That amount is just a rough guess on my behalf, I don't really know how much is will be.)

Remember Tony this is a one time offer to help you. Don't come up with excuses why you cannot do this. Organize yourself and lets get this done.

  4. Title has nothing to do with words. What bills are looming? Have you had demands to pay? No demand, no bill.

Looks like if you want a meth head streetwalker, you have found the right site. Well done.

  6. If you are over 11k then why didn't you just pay to keep your phone on instead of having it turned off and then searching for a new provider or allowing vince to add you to his?

also, with your history of not paying phone bills why on earth would Vince ever add you to his plan?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. because Vince knows id be paying him each month, instead of a phone company, and its much less that way than each person having a seperate phone or bill adding another person is cheap.

and of course the phone cant be paid, they told everyone they were going out of business, and to find a new provider by sept 7. so of course they werent accepting payments. it just ended up taking a lot longer than sept 7 before they finally shut down. i got numerous texts even after sept 7 with instructions how to port the number over to a new company of my choice, i just never went out and found one yet. now its urgent to do same as the tooth. by the way that tooth might need fixed before koala comes.

  7. I will again recommend Virgin Mobile, which uses the Sprint network. Unlimited data and texts plus 300 minutes of talk time is just $35/month, no contract. http://goo.gl/WkMsU

You buy the phone up front from them. Several good Android phones to choose from, such as the HTC Desire for $180. See http://goo.gl/3yNwZ

I've been using them for about 5 years now. I think it's one of the best deals out there.

    1. Agreed. I'm on the same plan. Though I have an iPhone 4S.

The only downside is that when I am at a crowded event, my internet is very slow or won't connect at all. Then I just remind myself to quit acting so damn entitled. I can go a few hours without being online. Just enjoy whatever concert or sportin event I'm at.

    2. well thats why id rather go with a much bigger and well known name brand company (and pay more). i dont want any issues, and i dont want to be limited on minutes

      Delete
    3. 1. Every carrier has issues. You should know that by now, having gone through all of them. 2. There are other plans with more minutes. But do you really use more than 300 minutes of talking time a month?

  8. Tony of course the games at Southpoint are NOT loose. They have a large freeroll promo going on right now so maybe that's changed for the short term, I don't know that usually brings in new players for a couple months a year. It's the closest room to my house and I quit going there it's so bad.

The place is usually full of bums with no money. it's really sad because the casino is huge and always packed with tourists. Sadly non of them ever play. That place is the main hub for NFR and you won't even see one cowboy hat in that room while it's in town the entire week.

  10. I just found out this mornin that I will have to attend a work event the last week of October in Las Vegas.

I would like to meet up with CoolDave and Vince again and now that I know Koala is in town maybe we can all have a meal sometime during that week. My evenings are all free so I am flexible to time and location and can provide transport if someone needs a lift.

    Good luck,

  11. Tony, get a Google Voice number with the Hangouts app. It is free and you can text and call through wifi for free. All you need is an Android phone. If you need instructions, I'll be glad to write them. And when you get a new phone with a data plan you can text and make calls (using data) through the Hangouts app without using your carrier minutes!

    1. i dont want to learn how to do this, dont want to have to rely on being in a place with wifi (most dont) to make phone calls. dont want a plan without unlimited minutes either.

    2. Tony if I had t-shirts made for you that said " I don't want to learn how to do this" would you wear them? I'll gladly hand deliver them to the poker room of your choice.

    3. Tony, GV number is a regular 10 digit US number like any number you've ever had. It is provided to you for free and making calls to other US numbers is free. If you have a wireless plan with data you can make free calls over the air (using data) without wifi. I mentioned wifi because you said you currently do not have a working data plan on your cell phone. If you can download game apps (which we all know you can) you can get this to work!

  12. Seems like you could have gotten your tooth fixed and phone paid for with the $1,200 you dusted off on the VBJ machine today. But, this was a good use of your money too. Must be nice to be rich enough to lose so much on a machine in one day.

    1. I fear that Tony is making so much money now that he is becoming one of the rich people, thus feeling the need to kill himself in the future. So Tony ... please continue to martingale and donk of money on dem good machines. We'd hate to see you go at such a young age.

  14. I'm convinced that there are two planes of existence: Tonyland and Reality. Why didn't you start looking for a dentist today? Did you visit any offices and explain your situation? Or were the VBJ machines more important than your teeth?

  16. Tony:

If you're still in Vegas and would like to play next week, I won't have parenting responsibilities and would love to play.

Played my first 2/5 game out at Bellagio last weekend. Had some small jitters in moving up but that only lasted an orbit. Certainly had some decent players, but I didn't find a huge difference in overall table skill. Had 3 good players at the table, one pretty bad one, and 5 average players. Action was good.

  17. Just so you know, I went to Dr. Ryan Gifford (3811 W. Charleston) this morning and paid the second of my two payments for tooth #31. For tooth removal and post it ran me about $4600 (minus 5% discount for paying in cash). The crown will be an additional $1400. I really like him immensely and he is extremely good at what he does. When Koala tells you to put aside $1500 for your teeth, it's barely touching the tip of the iceberg. Try closer to $7000.

    1. i have a hard time thinking ill pay over $500. u see, the dentist in reno charged $39 for the xray, and it wouldve been $125 more to extract the tooth then, and then $100 more if i wanted "put to sleep by pill" before hand, and all id needed was to have someone with me at the time to make sure i made it home ok. i was told if im put to sleep, im still conscious enough to open my mouth and will still feel some part of the shot. so it wouldve been about $300. im thinking now i might be needing 2-3 teeth fixed so im thinking $500 if i do it in vegas.

      Delete
    2. You paid $4600 for a tooth extraction? Costs about $200. You got taken.....badly

      Delete
    3. I think you're in for a rude awakening. Maybe not quite as rude as Alyssa is suggesting based on her experience, but a lot ruder than $500 for 3 teeth to be "fixed." Of course, if your only idea of "fixed" is "pulled," with no replacement, well, you might be able to do that. But exactly how many teeth do you plan to go without for the rest of your life?

      Delete
    4. For extracting teeth your estimate is probably pretty close, Tony.

      Delete
    5. http://www.yourdentistryguide.com/implants/ This comes AFTER the tooth extraction.

      Delete
  18. Okay let's say you need several teeth extracted. What will you have in their place, Gumby?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Tony just wants to get a simple tooth extraction. I'm not sure all the work you had done Alysia, but for $7000 my guess is you had additional work done beyond extraction (especially since you mentioned a crown). While a dentist will recommend all this work, and it's probably the best route for the health of your teeth, it's certainly not necessary to spend $7000 to extract a bad tooth.

    Source for the following: http://www.yourdentistryguide.com/tooth-extraction/

Generally, the harder the tooth is to remove, the more the procedure costs. Tooth extraction costs range from approximately $130 to $400. A simple tooth extraction of a permanent tooth can range from $100 to $250. Surgical extractions of permanent teeth cost $180 to $400.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Okay I have to say that there is NOTHING HOTTER than a dude without teeth gumming his cereal/mashed potatoes/meatloaf. Okay so TBC gets his teeth (multiples of tooth) extracted and then what? Nothing replaces them?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree that for most people some sort of replacement for a pulled tooth would be ideal, but for someone like Tony with no insurance and about $10,000 to his name (plus or minus whatever he won or lost at VBJ last night), spending $7,000 for that perfect smile is not realistic. The most important thing is that he has any teeth pulled that are beyond fixing and that he takes care of the ones that he has left. Of course he probably has a dozen cavities in other teeth that should be filled but won't, and he will have no teeth left in 10 years anyway. But one thing at a time, if he has constant tooth pain he needs to do something about it.
