When u are in a hole, the first thing u need to do is QUIT DIGGING

So thats what i decided to do once my roll dropped to $6200-6300. i quit playing VBJ, and havent touched it since leaving the Hacienda with so little. my last loss was at the Hacienda in lake mead, where i took the cab to from Laughlin, before i went to Vinces. i still had $7300 when i left Harrahs laughlin, and $7100 when i arrived at the Hacienda. my room there cost $89 with taxes, and all the rest was lost on the VBJ there, which was quite a disappointment, cause it was the good kind similar to the one in Jean with $1 minimum, with the exception of it hitting soft 17.

i still need to go to los angeles (or back to reno) but im waiting til AFTER sept 12-13 when i get my free room for fri and sat and my $150 worth of promo chips at the golden nugget. In the meantime, ive just got to make sure i dont drop anymore. $6000+ will be a lot more than i had the last time i was in the los angeles area, and enough to get started with.

not only that, i no longer have a working phone anymore, and even worse, my tooth is starting to bug me again, not just the one that needs removed, but the other one with the hole thats also rotting away is starting to increase the size of the open hole.

the only good news--the pair of pants i have looks nice that i bought new at Ross.

i made a special trip to the orleans to play omaha sunday nite (anything to avoid me playing VBJ) paid for a cab (not the best idea) but i dont like being on side streets in vegas late at night. won $72 in the $4-8 game, but no sign of alysia chang, nor did anyone dealing seem to know anyone named alysia i asked. so yeah i did make an effort to go to her instead of expecting her to come to me.

the only good news i can say about my VBJ play is that once i finally started showing discipline after getting worried about losing so much (i lost only $100-200 at the final few hours of my session at the hacienda when i started not overbetting on small plus counts). what i mean is i limited the amount of the total MAXIMUM bet on all 3 spots combined to under $100, and waited til the count hits +10 before ever betting more than $100 total, instead of when stuck.

takes more discipline to play that way since the count hardly ever gets that high, but it certainly cut back on the losses as far as the amount of the losses. had i been playing that way the entire trip since leaving reno, it wouldve cut back on the big huge losses at palazzo and the pioneer. and of course the winning sessions couldve also been smaller too.

im sure if id had that much discipline, id still be in the $8000-9000 range.

anyway--i went to the stratosphere tonight, bought in only $50 to be safe, and managed to never ever lose the initial buyin. eventually was up $58 when the game broke up a few hours later, and it was a miracle it didnt break several times sooner everytime it became 4 handed. so yeah ive been making sure no more big losses at poker or VBJ.

ive got plenty of money for $4-8 omaha without ever going broke, if i could just be convinced the orleans game would be beatable for $10 an hour or more over the long run. im not sure it is though. also the weekly across the street directly from the poker room seems very nice and safe, 100x more so than the budget suites on tropicana would be. but its a lot more per week, over $250 once taxes are included and fees.

but one thing i really wanted was a nice close walk home and back, just like i had in reno, in a fairly safe area of town that avoided using buses. that is what was so nice about living in reno, never needing to ride a bus at night. Had the apt not been so lousy on the inside, and nothing worked well, as u seen in the pictures posted on RTP by Nick, i wouldnt have wanted to move. but with all the money i deserved a nicer place--and the proper thing to have done wouldve been to just rented a better apt in reno. but of course, seeing PPP (and playing the dealers angels machine) meant more to me.

and now for one final piece of good news. im now at over $380 on bovada from my last buyin weeks ago of $20-30.

i wouldnt have nearly as much, had i not been playing candy crush same time as bovada. for me playing candy crush caused the screen to pop up suddenly and me to accidently hit FOLD on a hand of aa95 suited preflop. turns out id have lost the hand, went broke (off that buyin anyway) and wouldve left the game.

instead, a few hands later, since i still had $23.50 left of my $30 buyin since i folded, i won an allin, had about $50, then 2 hands later doubled up again plus a little more from a 3rd player or so, and quit the game with $138. so this is now a new high on bovada since i made that one cashout in reno.

Awesome, awesome line. With promises like that, I see politics in your future.

  2. You should go back to Reno to grind poker (and buy a new microwave, of course . . .)

    2. why spend $50 to bring a $60 microwave to vegas when vince is already storing a microwave and fridge in annes garage?

of course, i will probably need to buy a microwave wherever i settle down, reno, los angeles, phoenix, toledo, biloxi, pensacola, jacksonville, etc.

  3. I had zero idea you were actually looking for me; I would have given you my schedule. Oh well. I am flying into O'Hare airport tomorrow on Spirit Airlines, flight #136, then driving to Madison, Wisconsin. After which I'll be at the Palatine Holiday Inn Express for the weekend doing this http://chaoscup.com/

    3. That would be a mini-nightmare for you. All those awesome steakhouses in Chicago and your bum teeth not being able to eat any of them. Let's not even get into the amazing pizza with the chewy crust.

  4. incidently, i just google searched the words blood bowl, and i find it hilarious how PPP thought u were really going to be bowling that night, and thought it was probably at the bowling alley near the link.

he had no idea u were talking about some video fantasy football game. and what that has to do with bowling i dont know.

  5. This is not the video game; it's actually a painted miniatures game and it's actually A LOT OF FUN. It's how I enjoy my Friday nights. You should take a shot at it. There's a store: Empire Games (South Rainbow ad Jones) and if you ask nicely and go there this Friday night the guys will teach you. And yes there are a TON of guys who do this. And I talk to all of them!

    2. How much would you like to bet? I nominate Lightning as the keeper of the escrow. $2500 seems like a nice round number.

    3. I almost got into the miniature game years ago, but realized I didn't have enough money to start the hobby.

    4. also, I"m going to have to go and check out Empire Games.
The only places I currently really go is Avatar (rainbow and Charleston) and Comic Oasis which is off Cheyanne.

    1. I've been there a few times, electronic tables, since its supposedly a bingo hall you only have to be 18 to play. I played only tournaments there but im told there are some real bad players in the cash games.

      Delete
    2. if it has electronic poker tables, couldnt it also offer electronic VBJ tables?

    3. there is currently a dispute between the casino and the city on whether poker is a class II or class III game. this casino can only have class II games, like bingo. so far the casino is losing and the poker tables may be on the way out.
blackjack in any form , live or machine would be class III and not allowed at this location.

  7. So Tony was beating Reno for $15/hr, but wants to be able to make $10/hr playing Omaha at the Orleans. Makes sense to me.

  8. I guess it's useless to point out that the money you pissed away on VBJ could have covered the cost to pull the rotten teeth out of you mouth. I guess you will be left with the option of buying a $5 pliers set and doing it your self.

  9. Tony:

I know other people have suggested this, but I'm not sure I've seen a concrete response from you: Why do you not return to Reno and start grinding poker again?

You seemed to play really well up there. You seemed to enjoy it. You seemed to be able to beat the games regularly. They have free soup in the poker rooms. It's "the biggest little city in the world" - I think you could make a home of it there.

WHY NOT GO BACK TO RENO LONG TERM????

  10. Tony:

I also want to say, in regards to your last post, that you exhibit some VERY scary behavior when you lose control. Setting aside the throwing glasses and grabbing things from desks, your behavior during your last melt down was alarming.

It appears as if you're unable to control your behavior when you have these episodic rages. Going up to strangers and screaming at them, telling them you want them to lose all their money, telling them you want to commit a horrible crime, telling harmless old women that they look ugly and you want them to lose everything...all of that indicates an inability to control your behavior.

I know you've said you would never be violent, but it does seem as if the only thing keeping you from harming others (or self) during those episodic rages is access to a weapon. You need to get help controlling your emotions, or having a bunch of money won't keep you from getting arrested, or beaten, or killed, either by someone you're accosting and causing them to fear for their safety, from a concerned bystander, or from the police. Police do shoot "crazy" unarmed people, as you're no doubt aware.

Get help controlling your emotions, Tony. A big sock roll won't save you from the repercussions of your behavior, if worst comes to worst.

  12. i won over $600 tonight in the $1-2 NL at the stratosphere, and ive still got $404 on bovada too, (plus whatever happens in this $20 don sng). total roll not counting bovada is $6975. still need a phone though. was nice to see docglock tonight. the games at the strat are much looser than most places in vegas.

i also dont have the slightest idea what my plans are anymore, but i still dont think vegas is the best place for me to be. was disappointed to hear they closed down the clarion, there goes an idea for $600 monthly stay plus tax. of course there's still the $300 monthly stay at vinces since anne moved out, but its so far away from the strip. and i was disappointed to find out theres a wait list on the really nice place by orleans. why dont they just raise the rate to get rid of the list? the company is costing itself money.

    1. Property mgt theories and practices are not your strong suit Tony. Stick to poker. Even though there is some commute time overhead when you stay at Vince's that is by far the best place for you to stay in Vegas.

  13. Because they are happy with the wait list to keep their place nice, and its easier to deal with happy tenants than to rent to people who disappear at the drop of an hat.

    1. So, this means you should be making $3,400 a month (at 200 hours) playing poker. You should also be able to keep your expenses to about $1,500 a month given our lifestyle. Accordingly, you are now saving $2,000 a month!!!! That's fantastic.

Of course, in reality, you continue to piss away your money and are merely coasting along until the next epic blow up.

    2. Tony:

That's pretty damn impressive, sir. 600 hours is a healthy sample size, although many would poo-poo it as still too small. It's certainly a positive sign!

I think you've shown YOURSELF that you can win at poker when you're focused and playing smart. If you summon the will to quit all the other bullshit machine stuff and crazy-person taxi runs, you could make a decent life for yourself!

Congrats, Tony. That's a very positive sign.

  16. I'm puzzled by the title of this blog post. It's certainly not the way you choose to live your life. On the contrary, when you get in a hole (stuck), you dig more and more furiously, betting bigger and more recklessly.
