atlantic city NJ trip report

And im happy to say that its a better trip report than delaware Park, as far as results at the tables go. still im not entirely happy here, and where i really would like to be is either Parx or foxwoods. most definitely foxwoods. and im getting sick of cold weather too, maybe ill ride an amtrak all the way to florida. Even though i spent $20 on a 2nd coat or jacket, (not sure which its called) but wearing both at once helps to keep me warm in extremely cold weather near zero.

found a nice new suitcase with wheels for $35 but i never bought it. The store closes very early at 7pm and i didnt want to carry it into the Taj poker room so i figured id go back and buy it later but didnt in time. it will work to replace this one here thats no good.

am still spending more than i should, on foolish expenses like a $42 Uber when i couldve used the bus, and on having to buy 2 train tickets to ac instead of one after losing my ticket, but its okay if i win as much as im winning here in AC at the taj. today i won over $600+ including $100 for 6666 and ALL of todays winnings came from poker. yesterday i also won over $300 at the taj. Got some free play i didnt realize id get. did a promotion for those who havent been there recently. got lucky on a very poor paying VBJ machine at the Trop. Only game i lost in was at ballys early in the morning and that was because i wasnt playing my best. although its a much tighter game at ballys.

the VBJ at ballys only pays 6-5 and shuffles every hand on a single deck. not worth playing.

the 3VBJ machines at the Trop give comps but very few and slow $5 min bets, and dont allow surrender, although the BJ does pay 3-2. but it too shuffles every hand and also isnt worth playing. and neither poker room has phone chargers at the table. and i never did get over to the golden nugget, where they have less business. sure would be easy to win a high level black card here at the taj  off poker. i earned 147 comp tier points in one day and it only takes 10,000. and lots of AC NJ properties match other players tier cards to get u higher status there too.

all up and down white horse pike (and i suppose black horse pike too--which is actually only half the distance if u are paying cabs) theres motels renting with very cheap rates, or advertising weekly rates of as low as $200 plus tax at nice hotels or at least nice for ME hotels (by that i mean safe). not nice for PPP hotels by any means. if uve never before done it do a search on priceline of absecon, and the atlantic city west bay areas and u will see. search both the normal way and also the express deals way. u will be surprised how low the prices are, even for the hotels PPP would like.

first thing in the morning (and before this blog will be seen by any of u) i will be changing my motel. why? because im tired of being so far away on white horse pike, and also because i no longer have any trust in the integrity of the manager. hes from India as are most all the other motel managers.

today i go to renew my room online thru priceline to save money as ive been doing ever since i moved out of Vegas, all while  i was around maryland live and delaware park and always for the same motel im already in. Not one person has ever before said when i was renewing and keeping the same room, id need to check out at 11am, and check back in at 3pm.

but today the manager said id have to do that (and be out in the cold for 4 hours) if i did it thru priceline instead of thru him. so he offered to cancel it and let me just pay him, and i was worried priceline would charge me since their ad said nonrefundable and the manager said i wouldnt be charged as long as i told priceline i didnt stay there if they called and asked. and he said if i didnt tell that lie, id be charged an extra $20.

so i redid the reservation directly thru him, costing me over $3 more, and kept the same room. also he charges $300 weekly instead of the $200 weekly up the street at a very similar or better hotel. and of course, priceline wouldve given me the same motel im in for almost $85 a week cheaper than the manager would. seems hes trying to get out of sharing the fees with priceline and im sure priceline wont be happy.

also this hotel is advertised as low as $18 a nite weekdays and is rated 3 stars while all the other and nicer hotels or similar hotels in the same few blocks nearby are slightly higher priced and rated 1 or 2 stars. total BS. and of course, the free shuttle advertised to the airport dont exist and he said im the first one to ever ask about it. i wonder who he had to blow to get that rating of 3 stars.

and now ive got to sleep, to wake up before 11am to checkout. while ive been typing ive played about 4-5 sngs on bovada and now have a balance of $121 instead of $108. a lot of times when i get back to the room im too tired to update the blog and only want to sleep. thats why i wish i had an apt. im sure the nice places in ocean city, somers point and brigantine i looked at have been rented by now, but id still like an apt.

and i still aint had time to finish moms book or read any of the other 3 books i bought too. mom told me at Christmas when i called my family on the phone half the book was from her and half from my son. he liked the $100 and the billfold engraved with his name on it mom told me to get him.

and now im going to eat the potato salad and drink up the quart of milk in my fridge along with the eggs so i wont have to deal with moving the food. sure would be easier to move tomorrow had i bought the suitcase today.

  1. I'd probably avoid playing in casinos you're banned at.

  2. Tony, I might try and come up to AC Monday. If I do we should meet up. I wouldn't mind going to Parx to check it out. Are you only playing the Taj? Borgata usually has a bunch of mixed limit games running on the weekend. Bally's has a the softest 1/1 game I've ever played in. Let me know what you think about meeting up and riding to Parx. I don't want to go to Foxwoods it's way to far for me.

    2. Are there no dentists on the East Coast where you are? The way you have been describing it is as if your teeth have been disintegrating right in your mouth. Do you know that you can die from infected teeth?

And back to the eggs: Do you actually know how to fire off a fried or scrambled egg on the stovetop? Or are the eggs so abrasive on your teeth that you must go Rocky Balboa-style and drink them?

Also, a dozen eggs is approximately $1.09. It sounds like you are not a genious in the kitchen. Can you boil water?

    6. Eating immediately? So you do no cooking at all?

To answer your question about the eggs, we have a local farm down the road and they have milk, eggs, butter, cheese and meats for far less than what supermarkets sell. And we know where it came from.

Why don't you try and rent a house or apartment? Many of them have stoves where you can boil water upon them which unlocks a whole new culinary world of options, including instant mashed potatoes!

      Sorry about my sn.

I find it interesting that within the same paragraph you claim that you are both sick of cold weather, and want to go to Connecticut. lol. Also, maybe if you are going to be moving around a lot, buying all perishable foods isn't a good idea? It has been years since I've been to AC, but always loved Taj and Borgota for action.

  6. Aren't you ashamed of yourself because you smell? I mean even Lightning, Koala, and Alysia said so and they are very nice people who wouldnt say it just to be a jerk.

Why dont you clean yourself? It doesnt cost anything. Tell your "readers" why you fucking stink so bad.

    1. I give you a little credit for posting my comment Tony but you need to explain to your "readers" why you refuse to wash yourself daily. Nobody wants to be around you because of that and other things - that one you can at least fix.
Also, "hard work" is not what you do - you sit at the poker table while you use your phone - you dont pay attention when you arent in the hand and you travel from casino to casino just to gamble - please also explein how you think this is "hard work" when you have no idea what hard work is.

      Delete
    2. i dont think i stink neither do most of those at the tables, otherwise id be told that all the time not on rare occasions. its hard work cause its mental labor. winning is very tough, playing and losing is easy but winning is really difficult. to play well is work.

      Delete
    3. Tony, do you really think Lightning and others lied about your stink? I have never met you so I can't comment about you specifically, but I have sat beside stinky people at the poker table, not once have I seen anyone confront the stinky person directly. One time security came and talked to the person (& removed that person) because of complaints, but they were made to the staff.

For you to be confronted on multiple occasions would mean that you are quite stinky.

      Delete
    4. i probably did smell bad that day but certainly not all the time. the point is i often dont know how to fix it. for at times ive been told i stink even when i took a shower a few hours before, so this is no solution to fix it. at other times ive been told i smell fine even when i havent showered for a week. i really think its whether i have on the body spray that im sometimes out of because im not sure which stores sell it in my area. only place i know for sure does is the palms and el cortez gift shop. also i never know if its my breath making me smell bad or my underarms. all i know is most of the time i dont smell bad and its hard to tell if im smelling bad. if im going to be told that when i went to the effort to shower first anyway, wtf is the point? i also dont like the implication im usually not showering. the truth is i usually am so if i am told that its often something else. a lot of my jackets and pants probably stink since i dont own 30 pants (nor would i have room for them) like i do 30 clean shirts.

      Delete
    5. If you shower and put on stinky dirty clothes then you will stink. This idiotic idea that you shower and still smell is just you being a lazy asshole once again.
Just admit that you are lazy and dont want to take the time to shower or brush your teeth as it cuts into your degenerate gambling time.
Most people dont own 30 pants dummy but they do wash their clothes weekly - again your laziness and gambling addiction both prevent you from doing this. Enjoy your life without a true friend or woman - it is never going to happen when you live your life like a little boy.

      Delete
    6. Tony says "i probably did smell bad that day but certainly not all the time..."

Ok, then figure out why you smell bad those other times and fix them. You need to have clean body + clean clothes + clean shoes in order to not smell bad. It is ridiculous to think that you need thirty pairs of pants in order to have clean clothes everyday. If you do your laundry once a week instead of once a month, you can cut down the amount of stuff you drag around substantially. Your clothes will probably clean up better, because it is not marinating in sweat and dirt for up to a month at a time.

You need to brush your teeth at least twice a day, more times if you have bad breath. You need to floss your teeth after each meal. Body spray helps mask the odour, but you need to get at the source.

And there is no way in hell you smell fine after no shower for a week. No one smells fine without shower for a week. Shower every day, right before you go to the casino.

      Delete
    7. By the way, unless you are pissing or pooping in your pants, there is no reason why you can't wear your pants for a few days before washing. This is provided of course you shower every day, and you are wearing clean underwear. Outer jacket even more so, it should be fine for a week or two, provided you are not sleeping in the streets, spilling food/drinks on them, or work outside in a physical job.

      Delete
  7. expenses are still way too high, maybe i shouldve taken a room for a week for much less on white horse pike, but i didnt want to commit to the area for that long. I'm much too old to sit and play all night, so by around 6pm i was getting tired, and since id finally got out of the hole and $167 ahead, i felt good about a hard days work and decided to leave and take a room and relax online.

so i ended up paying $160 for 2 nights with tax but thats not near as much as it wouldve been for the same hotel 2 summers ago. and this is a room u can feel safe at, with decent wifi, fridge and microwave and im not going to say why its safe. he did tell me if i stayed again sunday it would then be $49 plus tax and he gave me a slight discount off the rack rate when he seen i was going to book thru priceline instead of him.

also i went and bought the $35 suitcase and now ill never have to lug around the one without the handle or wheels again. its a BIG size suitcase and its nice of course because its brand new so the wheels and handle works great. and i still havent gotten around to playing stud at the Taj or checking out the nugget or borgata. this is a weekend so this was going to be the night they wouldve had it going. still think im better off going to foxwoods florida toledo or even back to de park where i could at least play VBJ. the ones here in AC suck too much to play.

so even though i won $167, my roll dropped about $50-60 today because of too many expenses. eventually it will get fixed.

    1. If you thought this suitcase was a worthy purchase, then do you also see how paying a LITTLE now, is worth saving A LOT later? Get that tooth fixed! Get some glasses! I wear glasses, there's no shame in it if that's what you're worried about. You can see better, so who cares what others think!

    3. +1 for getting the dental situation remedied.

Back in the day (early 1700-1800's), people would jam spoonfuls of granulated salt in their mouth and rub it into an abscess or broken tooth. You could always try that for a few months.

    4. Prescription glasses correct the specific deficiencies of an individual's eyes, Tony. It ain't rocket science.

      Delete
    5. Prescription glasses are tailored to your specific eyesight needs. Reading glasses are for people who just need a little help with closeup reading. They are not for regular use due to poor eyesight. You'd benefit so much long-term from getting your tooth and eyes checked out, it's worth the small drop in the roll temporarily.

  11. I lost $1034 today, and i am going to start blocking and deleting anyone with anything negative to say, i dont need to hear any bullshit. new low since i left vegas of only $11,247. when i am in cities where i cant play a decent $1 VBJ game thats countable, i end up making much dumber bets on other types of machines because i feel like (as dumb as this sounds--thats its my ONLY choice to get my money back for the night).

I used to always win at stud in the old days before holdem took over. Back when the games were loose, rakes were cheap, and there wasnt jackpot drops. and when room costs were next to nothing. now theres no loose action nothing but old men although i caught some making some horrible calls and getting very lucky on me. i lost a huge pot with a flush and another pot with rolled up 666.

not all of my $1034 loss was on the stud game. to start off when i first got there i helped start the $5-10 stud game. i used to win years ago but i shouldnt play it. its just no longer worth playing. i have a hard time recognizing that however, so i played it and eventually lost $160 and that game was pretty tight.

after losing it i was starving for food, so i left and played a bad paying VBJ machine. the old one from wynn, planet H and binions where u get even money and play 7 hands at once all by urself. i lost over $250 on it and went to a live BJ table to get it back. came to the table with $641 left of the $1047 i left home with.

i chose that table cause i seen low cards being used up as i walked by. and sat down with a running count of +3. (although id only seen one hand late in the shoe). i made a bet of $41 divided between 2 spots, and won both hands when the dealer broke. so then i was at $682 of $1047, and only stuck $365. so i decided to bet $365 (and divide it up between 2 hands). i got a 4 and a 6 on one hand, and a 19 on the other and the dealer had a 6 showing so i didnt feel too bad. i doubled down and asked to have it face down, but the dealer said he couldnt do that, but i was relieved to see 20. everyone had a stiff so no one took a hit. the dealer then drew a 3 for a total of 9, and then an ace for 20.

so i picked up the double down hand, (which i pushed) lost the other hand and left without letting the dealer color me up i hate doing that if im stuck and im sure the other players dont enjoy having their time wasted either, and appreciated the fact i didnt. fuck what the dealer thinks.

carried them into the poker room, and sat with $470 approximately in the higher stakes $10-20 stud game where i sat for many hours til i eventually left broke.

one nice guy took me to their eQuivalent of the diamond lounge free even though i offered him $10 and the food is really good in ac. mashed potatoes, meatloaf, pumpkin pie, etc. so much better than harrahs.

then walked home several blocks thru some sketchy areas and felt scared to death when some homeless black guy asked me to spare 25c. ac is very bad for crime at night. almost no white people, and as one landlord said at the poker table almost every person on those 2 streets are crackheads and meth addicts. and he only rents for $1000 and a year commitment.

im of the opinion this isnt a good fit for me due to my temptation to play the wrong games instead of NL, but ive got no idea where to go tomorrow when my rooms up

      Delete
    4. thats why i feel to avoid playing BAD payback VBJ out of frustration im better off being where a good VBJ exists to help me avoid doing something stupid. but then again im not spending other peoples money so what i do with it isnt really anyone elses business. i just know ill never get in better shape (which will have me in a much better mood) if i dont quit it. but its really no different than others spending money on cigarettes booze or weed

      Delete
    5. You're right tony, it's your money to spend however you want. But if you want to make money rather than give it to the casino, you need to find some discipline and stop making excuses. You know a bad bet when you see it. Next time you have a bad session at poked, walk past all those unbeatable machines on your way out and be proud that you didn't loose any more money. You can beat poker so stick to your game. If the games are tough in AC move on. On the other hand, if you're satisfied gambling sometimes and losing money then by all means do it, as you say it's your money. Just stay safe and best of luck.

Dont say anything offensive in comments or ill block u too, u do a lot of it. its not me who wants to live with vince. its vince who suggests that he needs the money. even Alysia chang said it would be the right thing to do for vince, to go stay with him. it was their idea.

  14. The reason the hotel would rather u book threw them is simple. Say you get a $40 rate on Priceline.... The hotel only gets $20-25 of that. But if they get same rate directly they pocket the whole $40. Having worked Front Desk for over 15 yrs I will say the clerks always would rather you book directly with them

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. why? it dont effect the clerks income. doubt he is working off commission. the manager might care but only if its benefitting him directly in other words if hes not just the manager but also the owner. and if im wrong, why do so many not care about doing what this manager did, but have me book it thru priceline anyway? why do some managers say they have no authorization to give me a discount, forcing me to then book thru priceline and save money?

      Delete
    2. The clerks should care because it is his responsibility to do the best job he can, even if it is not explicitly in his job description. It is true that there are plenty of workers that don't see it this way, but having poor work ethics is one of the reasons why a lot of people get stuck in low level jobs and never move up.

From a more selfish point of view, helping the company make more money directly affects the viability of the company, which affects his job security.

Tony, you have been to more hotels and motels than anyone I know, do you not realize that different companies have different policies? Some managers may be authorized to give discount, while others may not. Even in a large hotel chain, individual property in the chain may have variations in terms of how much the front line managers are empowered to do, depending on the property's general manager.

This is how the world works Tony, there are variations, and there are always exceptions to the rules.

    3. Every shift some guy off the street says "I can get cheaper online". when 75% of time they really cant. We clerks know our markets. and would rather get full price to a walkin then 40-50% to 3rd party. Low rates hurt ADR and monthly revenue which hurts staff bonuses and raises.

  20. Tony, quick question... what is a good win rate at Stud??? If you were to play a 10/20 stud game for 8-12 hours a day what do you think you should walk away with everyday on average.

    Thanks

  21. I will say, I've played with Tony more than a dozen times, and I've never noticed him smelling bad. I've noticed other players smelling bad, but not Tony.

    1. Casino's are "Clip Joints". When you in a "Clip joint" around 8 schmucks that want to trick you out of your money. Its all fair game! I personally suggest eating raw cloves of garlic and chewable vitamin C tablets before a game. You will be amazed how many over look their hands. And always make it a point to smack talk when they reach for their chips. Its all timing, works like a charm! Tonys personal hygiene is fine, people should worry about themselves! Hope you new year is going well S.I.

    2. Ray -- I don't believe you can smell Tony from 2,000 miles away. I, however, had the misfortune of having him in a small, closed environment approximately one foot away. Believe me when I say that the smell was unbearable. He did, after the second night, apparently shower and/or change clothes that smelled bad.

I have had Tony in my rental car many times and have played with him at several casinos. In general, he smells okay ... but not those two nights. It is unfortunate that his detractors use this information to hassle him.

  23. new roll, $11990. well thats a little better than the $11,200+ i had after the big loss at the Taj the other day. am heading back into delaware to get a hotel so i can not miss out on tomorrows freeroll where 40 out of 100 or so players each get $500. its at 3pm in the afternoon. too bad i cant trust anyone in the area with a car. the only 3 people i can trust for sure are vook, pete and joel and none of them are this far north.

  25. Eggs cost $3 a dozen? I pay $1.69-1.89. Also I have played with Tony many times, and have never noticed any smell, and he usually looks pretty well groomed. You can tell he doesn't shave often, and doesn't care about his hair.... but that still puts him in the top 10% of poker pros.

If you are in a position where you are making bad decisions, leave! You know your weaknesses, get away from any place you'll keep making bad plays. $11k is still a lot of money for what you are trying to accomplish Tony. I know when you were nearly at 20k, it doesn't feel like it, but you are sitting pretty nice if you can just get to a poker game where you can minimize your bad bets.

Also, after 4 years of them saying NO, was finally able to get my ban at the Venetian over turned.... so anything is possible. If you do get back to vegas, look into some of those old bans.

    1. what was the ban for, and what did u do to go about lifting it? phone calls? letters? emails? talking with employees on the inside u were friends with? was it thru the poker room, or from the casino floor outside of the poker room?

    2. You missed the part where it says it took him 4 years. You were just banned like last week, so I'd give it awhile.

    3. I sent them a letter every 2 months (est) or so, both certified and non certified... so someone actually had to sign for it. I explained the situation, was completely honest, told them that it was an error in judgement, accepted full responsibility and asked them to consider how much I played there prior to the banning. After about 8 times, it finally worked.

The reason is a long story. A couple friends and I were drunk, and we were warned to settle down. I had a beer with a non twist off top (how I don't remember) but in trying to open it, I sprayed beer all over several people at a craps table.

  28. Tony, i think if you went north towards Foxwoods you would find even easier games. That area is very pretentious! Five O Clock wearing bandana people that kiss employers but during the day and think they can just turn the other cheeks at night! Very good action i am sure.
