Poker rooms should treat their customers with respect and not try to piss them off

As we all know, i try to refrain from posting about controversial issues on my blog that put me in a bad light, (and im about to write about something similar to Robs blog topic). I try to present myself in the most professional light on the blog, and anything bad or controversial can be said on RTP and twitter instead. But theres some things bugging me which i need to discuss.

But first--let me tell u a couple of interesting stories. I was on the bus home this morning, and some girl in her 20s seemed very high and i thought she might be a hooker. was the only white person on the whole bus except for me, out of 6 people. She was really complaining about the driver stopping alot (because he wanted to follow his schedule and not go thru stops too early--he was just doing his job right) and kept cursing him out and telling him to move the bus or get off and that the cops wouldnt put her off. finally he got tired of it and called his dispatcher, got off the bus and refused to move it.

so his supervisor arrived, and they got her off the bus. i was surprised to learn she was in the hospital all night and had some kind of uniform on i didnt recognize, i thought it was a normal shirt. maybe she really had a job to go to after all. she was talking crazy shit about cocaine and seemed high maybe she wasnt a hooker though.

and the good news was i ended up winning about $200 at the hard rock tonight. Left home about 6pm, took one of moms books with me (title of the book is the 12th imam) and its a fiction book, part of the series of 3 she bought for my birthday feb 10th, half of which is from my son. Total of $37. most expensive birthday gift i think ive gotten in some time, about 3x the cost of my xmas gift.

she also wants me to mail her the books when im done instead of throwing them away so she can read them too. she ordered them online. name of the author is Joel rosenberg and since they are christian fiction im sure none of u know him.

But i was glad to remember to take the bus with me instead of leaving it on the back of my chair when i left the casino. I was winning last night, although at one point id given back the $90 win, but i never really got stuck and the $96 buyin i never needed a rebuy. and to the idiots who wondered why i bought in $96, i didnt want to dig into my sock to reach for $100 bill. its certainly not safe to carry $100s in ur pockets on the bus is it? Part of the poor customer service at the Hardrock is they make u buy chips at the cage before sitting down, so i never got a chance to sit down (before coming to the poker table) to take money out of my sock without being seen. In vegas (and reno) almost everywhere lets u buy at the table (or at least sitting at the table thru a chip runner) to make the players feel far more welcome, and to show they appreciate u being there instead of making u feel like ur buyin is causing them more work.

That being said i did pass a BOA atm the other day and deposit $600 so i had only about half of the cash i did have on my possession not too many days ago.

so my table breaks up, and im at $186 when i move, and i take a seat next to the lady from the other day who i thought was gay and certainly appeared that way, but its possible i was wrong, she did flirt with a couple of men but just the employees. she works in a casino in new mexico called santa ana. so is in the poker industry.

it was the lady who was betting quite wild and loose and very aggressive whose stack would go from very low to very high, and was drinking a lot and made many rebuys the other day but tonight was in for only $100 according to her word and the other players word. she tried to bluff me on a big pot the other day but i made a good call with JJ on a Q hi board and won.

she was on my immediate left, which works out great since she likes to straddle. the person in front of the straddle always has to act first (God i hate that rule, but it least it would give me great position if she straddled). But as we all know, when i win i like to win ethically so i only straddle in casinos no one is at an unfair advantage.

This is the lady who told the story of being thrown out for uprooting a BJ table (and claimed its why she doesnt have a players card at the Hardrock). supposedly she was betting quite big with $5000 on the table and a guy came up and bet $17 and she asked him to take his bet back and he wouldnt and she offered him $50 to just NOT MAKE A BET. and he still refused to not bet his $17, (really really dumb on BOTH their parts) and then she lost a HUGE bet when the dealer drew 21 because of it.

i find this story quite surprising since she supposedly is employed in poker at the santa ana casino, if shes being honest.

Now as i sit here playing a $10 DON sng on bovada, with my $431 balance there, while im typing up this and right before i fall asleep, lets talk about poor customer service, and how i worry its going to make me lose my temper here in florida. although florida has so many more poker rooms than NV offers, it would take many years to get banned at all of them. its not just the Hardrock pretty much all the rooms around here have some of these annoyances.

this is why i consider moving to Toledo so i can be closer to God with the help of Ray, or back to Reno where i get along fine with the poker room manager Cathy woods and dont have to deal with ANY policies there that annoy me. u see, i feel they treat their customers with more respect there, and try to think "lets see what will make the customer happy and feel his business is appreciated" instead of "lets see, what jobs can we get the customer to do for us he really dont want to have to do just to make our life less work"

Getting rid of stress (and long commutes) is good for my mental health too such as just staying home and playing on Bovada, that is if it was possible to win $100 a day. (well at least i need to make that much as long as my housing costs are so high) if they were cheap i could live off $50 a day online.

Let me give u a big laundry list of everything that annoys me here in Florida at the Tampa Hardrock.

1. the lock on the only stall that isnt a handicap stall in the bathroom by the poker room does not work properly.

2. most all the tables dont have phone chargers and the few that do, often do not work.

3. Having to buy chips at the cage before i can take a seat (giving people more time to either steal the seat without signing the list or switching to my empty 2,3,7,8 seat before i can sit).

4. the way they do the button straddle and allow it from anywhere but the blinds. (u can be first to act a very large portion of the time depending on who sits by u).

5. the way they use $2 chips and the fact theres far more of them in circulation than $1s or $5s.

6. they rake $1 on $2 pots instead of waiting for it to hit $5 or $10.

7. being asked if i want to buy the button instead of if i want to wait.

8. the constant use of the word sir when ur name is clearly visible on the bravo.

9. the constant requests of do u want a massage when its ridiculously overpriced compared to $1 at the dogtrack. they should fire most of them and rehire them as cocktail waitresses. i did a survey, by the time the cocktail waitress came by 8 times the table had been offered a massage 19 times. and some of those times they were dropping off not taking orders. theyre way too many massage girls not doing anything and not near enough waitresses.

its a good thing i dont get mad as easy as some and control my temper. most guys would eventually end up commiting acts of violence. most guys have done time in prison or least have beat people up and the only thing i ever did was make one woman feel afraid because she was working in a hotel all by herself about 19 yrs old.

this is the excellent way of how NOT to run a poker room. and not one of these 9 issues exists in reno so im much more calm there. i feel my business is appreciated there.

Once again, you use language to make it sound like you're not responsible. Nothing and nobody can "make" you lose your temper. That is something you CHOOSE to do. You could choose not to do it.

Exactly wrong. Most guys have an at least somewhat socially acceptable way of handling their anger that does NOT include physical violence or anything that would result in their arrest.

    1. well thats not what i hear when waiting at Netpark transferring buses at night to go to the hardrock. i hear people, (and even a woman) talking about being in jail, not being able to handle going back, guys talking about how they beat up their girlfriend, their boss at work, etc.) at least ive noticed a guy there i think is security. u especially feel that way seeing how many guys are covered in tattoos, especially on the neck. lightning isnt riding thru poverty stricken neighborhoods or use buses, he only lives in nice suburbs and drives a car, so he knows nothing of what its like on the streets and neither do most readers. most people know nothing of how dangerous it is for americas poor, seeing theyve never been poor. and im not saying most adults are criminals but theres millions with violent crime records in the years 16-25

      Delete
    2. Yea, of the people riding buses maybe the majority have been in jail. lol

    3. I don't understand your obsession with the bus. I take it everywhere I go in Vegas, and have maybe felt unsafe twice in 4 years! Usually it is just people who are tired and cranky because they just worked 8+ hours for shit pay, and now have to take the bus home. Sure, us white folk are easily out numbered, but I guess i just don't assume that people of color are automatically dangerous.

      Delete
  4. In all your years of riding buses have you ever been robbed?

The issue with HR making you buy your chips 1st makes total sense and I am glad.

1st of all I like to buy my chips 1st in any poker room as I don't like to sit down and be dealt in while waiting several minutes to get my chips and have to have them keep track of my bets on the side and 2nd I always like $280 red and $20 in white for 1/2nl and lots of times even tho I tell them that they bring $300 red.

Also in Vegas and Reno the poker room are small with only 2 to 10 tables going at once except for a few larger rooms, so its easy to have brush get their chips.
Could you imagine how that would work with 30-40 tables going at HR like most times and so many new players coming in constantly.

You would often have 2 or 3 new players waiting 10-15 minutes for chips and the dealer trying to keep track of all that because the line for chips would be insane long.

The reason there are so many $2 chips in play is because most players there are beginners and don't know that its mostly a $5 chips game with the need for some white chips for the blinds and $12 raises, etc.
So they buy in for $100 at the cage and get $80 in $2's and $20 in $1's and that is what the cashier gives them auto if they don't specify what they want.

You should like being called sir, I doubt you would be called that outside a casino.

As far as the massage girls HR doesn't pay them anything they only take a cut of the proceeds. Its likely 1/3rd to girl, 1/3rd to massage company and 1/3rd to HR for letting them operate there and of course the girl makes tips also. Why does that bother you so much? Did you get $1/min massages when you were at the track?

"most guys have done time in prison" REALLY? lol

HR has zero competition and is the only real casino in Central FL and North FL and the shit tracks are no competition in poker. So they do have sort of an attitude like they don't care about the poker room because so many people flock there.
But there is still decent customer service just not like a 3 table room in Vegas where they are very dependent on your business.

    1. no i can no longer afford massages til i get to the point im no longer worried about being able to afford my rent. but i did use to get them a lot in cali at $1 a minute. i just dont see why one casino has to charge a different price.than another, we all can see how the hardrock dont care about its customers seeing the comp rate on VBJ and the $25 min tables continous shufflers. i dont why more arent playing at the tracks. i would be if i had a car so i could leave when its closing time in the middle of the night.

easy to see why people dont like being called sir. its cold and informal and is usually said by police when being arrested or security when being 86ed. a dealer who likes u is warm and friendly calling u by name and everyone likes being greeted by their name. and the cage should never be instructed to give out $2 chips. i must say a rule at derby lane annoyed me more. the cage claimed they were NOT allowed to sell any $1 chips

      Delete
    2. I agree that "sir" is often used in a condescending manner and it's not difficult to know when.

    3. Maybe there is some unfathomable reason that dealers don't like you?

  5. You can get a portable cell phone charger. It's a little reusable gadget you carry with you that carries one cell phone charge. You can get them at Walmart for $8.

Can't you ask the dealer to lock a seat up for you while you go get chips? If the dealer won't lock it up carry a $1 chip or card protecter and put it down before you go get chips. If you are on the list waiting why haven't you already bought chips so when they call your name so you are ready to go?

How can there be a $2 pot? Is it a 1-1 game and it's folded around to the blinds, the dealer draws the blinds in and takes a $1? Who would ever, ever play in a game where there were lots of hands like that?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They take a $1 min rake at HR except on chop. If its raised and all fold then they take $1 out of the $3 in blinds. It doesn't happen a huge amount because tables usually are not that tight.

In Cali they take like $3-$5 if there is a flop no matter the pot size right?

      Delete
    2. im afraid of buying the WRONG gadget if i do it myself at walmart instead of at a sprint store where an employee can help me. theres usually NO waitlist and u get seated immediately at $1-2 which is why i dont have chips already bought. im so worried about not getting one of the 4 end seats i like, i always want to sit immediately before someone grabs the seat. sure i can ask the dealer to lock it, but he really cant, u see if another player decides all of a sudden he want the seat while im away buying the chips, he would get first right to it instead of me since hes already playing and i havent yet been dealt in.

The $1 drop on a $2 pot seldom happens, usually they agree to chop and there isnt a guy who insists in seeing the flop. but theres at times $1 drops on $3 and $4 pots. not very often though, its quite rare for the pot to be that small. but it shows u the mentality of we can rake anything we want. and its the fault of people like wsop2007 who could play elsewhere since they own a car, but dont. clearly most of the players arent beginners, they are loose, with money, but not beginners u see them quite often. even this one black guy who likes to shove with nothing all the time u see him several times, he sure isnt a beginner although he always calls and shoves with nothing and just rebuys another $100

      Delete
    3. sure i can ask the dealer to lock it, but he really cant,

That's simply not true. Just ask the dealer and leave a player's card or card protector and it's done. I've played a ton of poker in casinos and never seen it where this didn't happen.

      Delete
    4. he will say this and lock the seat. but it dont mean anything, all it does is protect someone who isnt yet playing from taking the seat. if a player already at the table decides to move to the seat i just locked while im at the cage buying chips, they have the right to do so since they get first choice on any open seats. and ill come back to find out ive been moved from seat 2 to seat 6.

  6. Curious if anyone ELSE is annoyed by the things on your list. Is it at all possible that you are just overly sensitive and others view these annoyances as the price of playing poker in Florida? If I were you, I'd go somewhere where the rules were more to my liking. Also I'd like to know WHO here responding to your blogs is easier to enrage than you???!!! Rob, Koala, Lightning, PPP, Nick, etc. have NEVER been banned from a casino. I've been warned because I met some Italian players and started chatting in Italian. But it's not the same thing.

    1. Isn't this just a natural extension of Tony's worldview in which good Christians like him are being oppressed by an increasingly secular society that "hates God"? Since Tony's only life experience involves casinos and public transport, the only way he can stew in his own delusional victimhood is to constantly find fault in those environments.

When I first read that I thought, "God lives in Ohio?"

Also, I think you are at the extreme end of people who lose their temper. I have been annoyed to death in a card room with people trying to jump in line, coming to the table after a 30 minute wait and everyone deciding to switch seats, lack of cocktail service, etc, but I have NEVER called anyone names, ripped cards in half, etc. If you don't like the service provided leave.

Regarding buying chips at the cage. Do you sign the list and then wait for them to call you before buying chips? Or is there rarely a list? If there is a list, sign up, buy your chips and BE READY for when they call you. If you sign the list, then go use the bathroom, read a book, go look at VP pay tables, or whatever, it is your fault that it is a inconvenience, not the casinos.

    1. It is easy for most I guess except Tony. You walk up get your name on list, if they have a seat right away which does happen a decent amount then if there is no line at cashier then quickly get your chips and get to the table to get your seat before something happens to it.

If there is a decent line then you can quickly go to table and lock up your seat with your player card and then go get chips.

If there is a list then immediately buy your chips and sits down at the front tables where people sit and be ready to take your seat when called.

  9. Yeah, every player has things they prefer, of course TBC's mind is messed up so he worries about ridiculous things like which seat to sit at. U see, that is something you would expect from a recreational donk player, not a professional. Myself, I might prefer a particular seat selection for convenience, but I want the seat that is going to be profitable, not 1,3,7,8 etc. That type of thinking is just sickness and
-EV if you are a professional. Leak here, Leak there with just stupid inane things. Very lucky to have any money at all, so should keep being 'Tony Careful" with the green stuff.

Maybe others are different, but even with Poker Rooms with chip runners, I lock up my seat with something, or ask the dealer to lock the seat (never in 30 years of playing have I had a single dealer say they will not lock it) and 90% of the time pick my chips up from window depending on how I feel. If they have the seat open and they are ready to deal me in, I likely will sit right there and take cards,

Myself, I never need a phone charger in the poker room, and I am constantly looking at scores and making sports bets. Even if my phone ran out I would not care as I want to concentrate on poker. Not paying attention and worrying about a phone charger only means another LEAK to me.

Asking if you want to buy the button is a standard in many poker rooms (but not all) and I find a ton of players ROUTINELY do it. I do it many times but depending on rules, etc, prefer to come in after the button. A couple of rooms I play offer free play when you first come in so I will alter when I start, but I will play at more positions, although I try to let the button pass if they let me.

I can see someone being bummed about the straddle rules, especially where they do not play well with loose, crazy players who are busy throwing chips around. Myself, I am very tight player who looks for those crazy types, so the straddle from anywhere is fine with me, especially where it makes an aggressive player throw
-EV chips around. I am surprised TBC does not love it. I extremely rarely straddle myself, and it may make me fold a little more, but the pots I win are larger generally. Puzzles me why TBC would not like it, except that is just in his mind. We play a similar style except for the funky mind tricks.

If I had to take a bus around and was carrying any amount of money, I may well put a small amount in my pocket and keep a large amount in my sock, etc. If I take a cab to a poker room etc, I will just keep all the money in my pocket no matter the amount. When I have won large amounts in tournaments I have had the security guard walk me to the car. But I can understand the sock thing on the Bus. I would absolutely get it out of my sock the second I was in the casino/poker room.

    1. the problem isnt with the straddle. i am of the opinion the reason i was winning $17 an hour in reno is because of the loose action generated by the MS straddle from anywhere, and to the fact i played much shorter sessions due to living a block up the street. The problem is being first to act almost every hand, instead of it moving around the table to all players equally, due the rules over WHO ACTS first when theres a straddle. in reno, the order of the action doesnt change due to the straddle at the Peppermill. the person whose going to have to act first all the time will be at a severe disadvantage where the person on the straddlers immediate right will have a huge avantage acting next to last every time (except for the straddler). not sure why WEC isnt able to understand how being in the wrong seat and unable to move wouldnt put 1 player at a huge disadvantage to everyone else. Being able to come in without posting in common in all low stakes games. i think its not common to wec because he plays higher stakes, and i also heard the Bellagio dont allow it.

    2. so you are saying that if the button straddles, the small blind is the First to Act??? or if the Cutoff straddles, the button is First to Act?? Can the player also straddle the small blind and make the big blind act first??

That would be irritating to me also if I had to act first every single hand. I have never seen that myself.

      Delete
    3. "the problem isnt with the straddle."

As a note, to my mind you have constantly complained as regards a game playing with a straddle, or at least an UTG straddle. Just seems you constantly make a remark about it, in many locales you have visited.

      Delete
    5. the only thing that bugs me about the straddle most places is the person immediately after the straddle always having the act first. since wynn and the nugget do the straddle the opposite way, as does the peppermill, the straddle has never bothered me at those locations.

Like i said Tony, please pray for the brat pack on here they know who they are. They really have no idea what is going to happen in this world. You have a few down to earth readers but Tony, the majority of people think prosperity was their birthright and know one will know what how they used a smile to get ahead or a connection or nepotism. So most would die and lie with their last breath to avoid the adversity some HAVE to live through! Tony, people like me and you truly know, just do the right thing and pray for your bloggers that will freak out soon one day when they thought the water baptized their flesh and they put an hour a week in to church. TONY THEY HAVE NO CLUE I PROMISE YOU! They wonder why all people can't have passion for a corrupt system. But Mr. Prosk it goes much deeper than what you ask too. You should thank God everyday for what you have and what you don't realize you have avoided living through! That is another point i make too up there. This way of life in this world won't last, millions everyday become oppressed everyday, these millions are the products of what this evil system created. So simply putting the blame on Tony isn't the right answer always you should look at what your not seeing too!

    RE: Dealers

another subject, another leak for a professional, As a total generalization, I would say that Asian dealers are generally some of the best (maybe that is why there are so many of them, they do it right). But that is neither here nor there, because I do not waste my thought or get my panties in a twist on if the dealers are White, Black, Asian or Peacock. What I will let me get very upset about is if they SUCK!!! And for the most part, the reason the dealers suck is because the people running the poker room suck at training them or just don't give a shit. I go to one poker room and any night you will find multiple burn and turns cause the dealer missed the action, then in another room I can stay for a week and hardly see a single mistake, much less missing player action.

U see, a professional worries about that kind of dealer, not what race the dealers are. I have found all races can deal good and bad.

    1. I have dealt for 2 years and it blows my mind that a dealer could be so out of it that they miss the action and fire a turn before its needed. During the entire 2014 WSOP I only exposed 1 card on the deal (threw it clean off the table, so at least when I do screw up, I do it in grand fashion) some dealers make the work look hard. It isn't.

    4. It seems odd that god would still be dealing in contact lenses. Shouldn't he/she/it have moved to a more permanent solution by now? Perhaps some sort of holy lasik treatment? I really can't be expected to believe in a fairy tale that doesn't provide long lasting vision care, now can I?

  18. OMG they are calling you sir ( which is a sign of respect) A broken bathroom lock and having to buy your own chips.WHAT in the hell are they trying to do. IF this is all you have to be upset about Tony then you have a lot of other problems that must drive you over the frickin ledge. There is not one problem listed that i would even give a second thought about. Well maybe the slow cocktail waitress as i like to drink and get lit a little bit while playing poker (I know its a bad thing to do but i am there to have fun) lighten up a bit and do something to enjoy yourself outside of playing poker. good luck...............
