2 important hands

would like to post a couple of hand histories. one hand early on i had AK and the guy on my left, who ive seen many a time, and is loose but plays a lot of poker, was straddling a LOT. but never for more than $5 or $10. i shouldve moved seats, i was in seat 7, and seat 2 was open for a while. i kept forgetting about moving every time it became my turn to post the BB. so he straddles $10, and is the type of guy i dont want to have immediate position on me because he plays too many hands. id rather guys who always get out sit there. 2 guys and one woman call, and i bet $50 of my $210+ and feel i didnt raise it enough?

he calls, and only he calls. now im forced to play it HU out of position with a lot of money behind. exactly what i dont want, so how best to avoid this, without not reraising preflop?

so isnt it playing too weak tight to check fold, or check call and not continuation bet the flop? so i bet the flop of Q76 which i really didnt care for. i bet $50 and of course he put me allin, which i was hoping he would fold, but then again i kind of expected him to do this with any 2 cards. Is it wrong of me to think that those who KNOW me are always going to put me allin with air?

i called. i guess i should fold, but i called because my read was right that i had a better hand preflop. i had him dominated bad, AK to his AQ. what would u do differently to avoid playing too weak on the flop check surrendering in a HU situation? this is why i needed a seat change, but i didnt care for the guy in seat 3 either if id moved to seat 2.

----ok 2nd hand history--

this time a different table and a different guy but still someone i think ive played several times before. this was after i came back from making over $600 at the BJ table, where i was once up over $800, and was finally feeling good about the day after a few bad sessions put a serious dip in my yearly income hourly rate at poker.

i had AJ diamonds and made it $12 preflop and got 1 callers. or 1. flop comes 9J3 with 2 clubs. he checks i bet $25 and he check raises to $80. what do u think he has? i thought he might be drawing for clubs or have a set.

Kd comes on the turn giving me the nut flush draw. now theres 2 flush draws out there. i checked and he checked, so i felt i was ahead or being trapped. should i have checked?

river comes Ac. now i have 2 pair but theres a flush out there. i check, and he shoves $100. i know its a bad call but i called, what do u think he has?

he had the flush with the 89 of clubs. i was way ahead on the turn but theres no way i think i got him off of it if i shove there. is there? would anyone have shoved the turn?

eating good food and going to bed soon. i ordered some books online which i purchased and theyve been shipped (will take a week or so id guess) total cost was like $21 for 6 books.

the one lady dealing to me at the BJ table seemed quite friendly and nice wanting me to do well, but she did one thing which offended me. when she later asked where i was born and raised, and i mentioned KS, she seemed like she wasnt surprised i wanted to move out of there. i mentioned my mom living in a small town and how mom dont like the big city. she was saying if it was her mom she wouldnt be able to live where theyres no movie theater or Barnes and Nobles. i mentioned how my mom buys a lot of her books from Christian book distributors and the lady said those type of books DEFINEITLY were not the type of books she would like to read. i then mentioned they were Christian fiction suspense and mysteries (not religious books but fiction novels) and she said anything about Christianity is fiction. i felt kind of offended and a minute later the new dealer tapped her out.

its not a good idea for dealers to mock (thats how i took it) their customers family members religious beliefs.

  1. Black Jack dealers say some stupid shit sometimes. It surprises me to because they work for tips.

  2. Instead of being offended pray for them. I am serious, Tony watch how they get as strange things start happening more soon. Some of these people are going to be very humbled very soon.

    6. Its the holier than thou attitude, when it suits them. This dipstick john doe must be TBC's long lost brother who was also brainwashed by his mother about the rapture and all that other rubbish. Call me anything you like john doe, at least I know I am not a God bothering hypocrite.

    7. The whole system is a joke. Even if it were true, and it isn't, it is a scam by god.

      "Let me save you!"
      "From what?"
"From what I'll do to you if you don't let me save you!"

Also you have a built in get out of jail free card. "Christians" can act as stupid, and be the biggest asses on earth, and when you call them on it, all they have to say is, "We are all sinners, I never said I was perfect." How many times has Tony dropped that line to explain away his shit behavior?

There is a lot of good done by religion, but that is massively outweighed by the evil and hurt it brings.

  5. Tony,

Way to go on the AK dominate so badly AQ. To bad you sometimes have to play the hand out. Were the AK or the AQ suited? Also, I am very confused by your bet size. If I was you, (a 1 percent-er ) and you were willing to commit your chips on such a bad flop to a loose player, why did you not just donkey shove the whole stack pre flop?

I can not even start to put the second guy on a range or even help you analyze your bet size with the lack of information. You said you played with him many times, but what is his style? What what his stack size? What was your stack? Wish I could help, but I am not smart enough to even make an uneducated guess on such limited details.

Keep up the winning on BJ. Maybe you need to just play live BJ to crush the casino.

    2. Here is my advice to you, all I can say is I hope you hear it. You need to observe every hand, every play even when you are not active in the hand. You need to see and note what the tendencies are of the players when they have someone pressure them and make them pay to see cards. You need to see what time of hands people are willing to play and be aggressive on. Remember not everyone is as smart as you and bets the same as you.

I think your game with get exponentially better if you put your fucking phone away and pay attention to every card, every flop and every bet. Even better keep your phone out but take notes on your phone about each player on the hands you are not active in.

      MIV.

  6. Tony, I totally agree that the BJ dealer was way out of line. Totally inappropriate for a customer service person--and that's what a dealer is--to not only give her own views on religion and politics at the table, but to actively disagree with one of her customers about it. Mocking those beliefs is totally unacceptable. That would be true even if those beliefs weren't the majority-held beliefs in this country.

I suspect that she will one day say something like this to someone who will speak to her boss about it. She will get get warned and possibly fired, which would be totally justified.

I would feel the same way if someone at her table said just the opposite--that Christianity is a joke, there is no God--and she started defending her faith and telling that person they are going to hell.

Just totally inappropriate discussion to have at a blackjack table. If two players are arguing, she should stay the hell out of it. For her to insert herself like that is way,way out of line.

    1. I defended her earlier because I think she is absolutely right... but I suppose I agree with you. Are we sure we are getting this story right though? When I was dealing I couldn't imagine interjecting myself into someone's conversation to tell them that everything they live for is "fiction"

    2. i was of the opinion that since i lived here and didnt want to go back to KS, she was thinking i agreed with her and had no idea my religion matches my moms

    3. That makes more sense... that is the only way I could see this happening. Thinking she is reinforcing your beliefs, but in fact, she insulted you. I hate to use scripture, but Jesus did say when someone smites you to "Turn the other cheek" there was no real harm here, except to your ego... Sounds like you let it go without incident, so, good job!

  7. On the AK hand, the short answer (in my opinion) is that you played the hand very badly. You shouldn't be shoving that much money into the pot with ace high after the flop, especially with a call. if you're going to raise his straddle out of position you need to be prepared to fold the hand if you miss and he shows strength. This is why playing a hand like AK out of position is difficult. If he's a wild player I think AK is a good enough hand to limp with and hope that he raises his straddle so you can shove on him. If one or two other people just call even more reason to shove. If he doesn't raise his straddle you can play the flop cautiously, which in this case with a Q76 flop you would check/fold. The only problem with limp/shoving a hand like AK is that people might put you on exactly that hand because it's a big overbet. They would think "if he had AA or KK he would raise less to get a caller". The thing is though at these stakes people might not think like this, and often people will jam a raised pot with aces or kings because they don't like to lose with those hands. So it really depends on your opponents and your read on how they would perceive an action like this from you.

The second hand, you were put in a tough spot because you decided to play a big pot with just top pair. It's hard for me to say if that was right or wrong because you don't really talk about the tendencies of your opponent or how he views you. The pot is small on the flop when he raises to 80. Top pair top kicker is a strong flop heads up, and the board isn't too wet yet. There are straight and flush draws, and possibly two pair or a set beat you. If I felt like I was ahead I would rather reraise and get it in than just call because the board is so draw heavy. His hand is actually slightly ahead of yours in equity so neither of you would be making a mistake to get it in on this flop. Of course it comes down to your read on the player, if he's raising a lot with draws or bluffs then you need to get it in, if he's playing pretty tight and solid you should probably fold. As played, it's hard for you to shove on the turn when the Kd comes, you have a flush draw now with your pair but only 1 card to come and you no longer have top pair. When he checks behind on the turn you should be thinking he probably has a straight or flush draw. Of course on the river the Ac is a bad card for you because it makes his flush and gives you top two. I can understand this being difficult to lay down, but I think you set yourself up for this when you call the 80 on the flop. It's difficult playing big pots out of position with good but not great hands and these two hands you described really highlight that fact.

  8. Don't talk about religion or politics and it will help you from getting into conversations that offend your beliefs.

Need more info on both hands to give you my best take. Based on what you wrote on the AK v AQ hand...seems like a c bet and if he calls or raises you are prob behind. But you told us nothing about he playing style or if he had been doing this "move" before and showed a bluff or mucked.

The AJ hand is tough also, I wouldn't mind the push by you on the turn. But I'm not sure who had position. First you said he check and u bet $25, then you said u checked then he checked. If you have position I like a bet (amount depends on stack sizes) if he was short or had around pot and checked the turn...I might be more inclined to push.

    Really need more info.

  9. The AK hand is most likely a fold. You bet flop and he goes all in. You only
    have Ace high. Easy fold.

The hand where you have AJ of diamonds and flop top pair with your top kicker.
You bet $25 and he raises it to $80 and he only has $100 left. You decide to
call the $80. I am not calling here I am folding or putting him all in for
$180. So you have to decide. If you think your ahead at this point then go all
in or if you think your behind fold.

It is never a good idea when your think your slightly ahead to give your opponent free cards and then when he hits and goes all in you call. Get your money in when your ahead. Don't let them draw out on you for free and then call there all in after they got there for free.

  10. on the AK vs AQ hand....make a smaller cbet....when he comes over the top...just muck it.....save some money on the flop you have A high....if he doesn't have Q....2pr or a set you win the pot right there.

on the AJdd hand.....when he raises you on the flop....you have to decide if he is drawing (the free card play) or if he has a 2nd best hand like KJ, QJ or JT. if you think he is drawing or has a 2nd best hand shove the flop.....Only if you have a really strong read that he has you beat (overpair,2pr or a set) should you ever lay this hand down on the flop. As it turned out you let him take the lead and leet him see the river for free because the K came off....then he made his hand and you paid him off..not good. If you think you are ahead on the flop here...get the money in....if he has a worse kicker he is nearly dead....if he has a draw you are a 2-1 favorite.

  11. "I mean are the really doing that just because I have a tight image, or its just my imagination theyre going to do that?" You are asking the wrong questions. Right questions are: Is this a player who notices how I play? Is this a player who adjusts his play depending on who he is playing against? (There are plenty of players who never adjust their play regardless of what they know). Is this a player would come over the top with any 2 cards? against anyone? against me? And all of these have to consider the preceding action (and hands). He straddled all night, how has he played his straddle? Did he always protect his straddle? Does he let it go pretty easily if he doesn't hit? You should have had a ton of information about him if you have played with him before and you had been playing with him for a while. You should be using what you know about him to make your decision.

    3. That was a serious answer Tony. You are always saying how superior your IQ is to others, and that the playing style you have developed makes people think you have a good hand when in fact you have nothing. This makes people fear playing you because they read you wrong. In your original post, you did not say anything about the other players asking Yoshi to contact you, or else I would not have made that statement.

If you are going to say things like "Cant imagine why it broke so early." you have to expect people to give you answers based on the information you have provided. Just like people trying to answer your poker playing hands when you do not provide all the information.

As far as treating me with the utmost respect when we hung out together, was this before or after you decided to run away to California and leave me still in Las Vegas, after I had made arrangements to keep in touch with you and meet up with you for the extra week in Las Vegas.
