This fridays dental appointment

on the way home from the Peppermill today i went by the salvation army store because i still dont have enough pairs of pants after having to throw some out, and ive been wearing the same pair too long. ended up buying 2 pairs for not over $3 and theyre better pants than the ones i had. sure cant complain about the prices here. also i seen a suitcase with wheels thats the type walmart sells for $49-69 for only $4.99, so i of course bought it and now i finally have 2 suitcases with wheels. one quite small and new, (purchased at walmarts about 3 weeks ago for $29) and this one i just bought which is a little bigger. i'm hoping 2 will now hold a bit more of my things for the next time i take any extended trips. (by that i mean much further than the tahoe biltmore). the one small one worked fine for the tahoe biltmore. and what i enjoyed the most was going to the trash container when i got home and throwing out the old suitcase that was no good. so now i have on "new" pants.

im thinking i bought the right foods for the dentist, but i probably left out a lot of things Alysia Chang wouldve bought. i dont know how to buy shakes since i have no blender at home. but theres a lot of mashed potatoes, applesauce, pudding, and ice cream, and soups without meat. any other ideas would be appreciated and maybe cooldave will run by a grocery store too if he has any ideas. after the dental work is done, we might also need to go by a pharmacy to get painkillers or antibiotics.

$9,744. thats not much money at all compared to what i had a week or two ago, and im estimating about $8500 or less after the dental works complete. (considering the possibility of multiple teeth, a wisdom tooth, being knocked out, etc). the only thing thats fairly cheap (with an online coupon) will be the exam.

Lucky for me, @cooldave88 will be passing thru reno thurs nite-friday nite on his drive to vegas from Portland. and graciously offered to accompany me to a dentist and make sure i get everything done and then safely make it to bed for the rest of the day. i havent asked, but i guess hes taking a room either thurs or friday somewhere in reno.

i forgot my reading glasses this morning, so i was without access to reading my cell most of the day. and i soon need to get back to the casino, for i need to get my time in today because my first 4 of a kind paid me $75, (wouldve paid $100 more had my hi hand not got cracked 3 minutes before ending) and the 2nd 4 of a kind pays $300 if gotten within 24 hours of the first one.

------10 hours later-----

must sleep immediately. lost $561 because i got too tired, played shorthanded against 2 tourists one from anchorage but these were guys that played poker. one was extra loose however and shouldve lost. he goes allin on me for $40 more when i have AJ with only 10 5 offsuit and of course im calling its been a long time since i had a hand, and id already raised quite a bit while still 5 handed.

flop comes Q67 and i see im still ahead. 9 on turn, 4 on river. i instantly muck because id sworn he had 10 4 (not 10 5) because the way the cards were lying facedown thats what i thought he was showing. (he showed soon as i called preflop) then the 2 players near me told me he only had 10 high and that was a $100+ pot. when i did that it put me on tilt.

now about the dentist. i was disappointed the dentist 2 months ago only xrayed the one tooth and i sure didnt think it was the right tooth because i didnt know which one was sore. (they squeexed me in without an appt so they didnt have time to do a thoral xray and exam). thats why it was only $100 instead of $190.

so the tooth i was supposed to get pulled was tooth 11, and i wouldve sworn 2 weeks ago a wisdom tooth was seriously hurting me for like 2-3 days then it went away. no where near tooth 11. but i figured as soon as i went in for the appt with the oral surgeon and the IV person, theyd examine the mouth fully, and fix any additional teeth.

called them up yesterday to talk, and they said NO, they dont do this, that they only can do legally what i was referred for, and if i wanted more teeth done, id first need a new referral. and of course the old dentist cant see me first this fast again. according to the oral surgeon, they wouldnt even be taking xrays just using the old xray and referral. to me this sounds really stupid, when what i desperately need is a much more thoral xray to find out whats wrong. only 1 tooth was ever xrayed and i dont know which tooth is bad.

so i canceled the whole thing (the 2pm appt) and rescheluled with a different dentist for 9am friday, (which i dont need someone along for but would be nice). the new dentist will xray the complete mouth, (got that clear over the phone) and then ill know for sure whats wrong and what needs fixing. now he claims he dont sedate u in his office, but they do it in the office across the street. and he told me if i came in at 9am, and the work needs done that date (i explained the situation with cooldave only being there on that day only) he swore their oral surgeon across the street will service me the same afternoon, and also knock me out, but didnt know the cost til he first sees the xray to know how many teeth need done. but i will be able to get the work done friday afternoon, (but might not be at 2pm) ill still need someone with me though (for the 2nd part). and the work will get done friday.

the other dentist i canceled with also said the work they were origanly going to do would take only 30 minutes, and if i needed more complicated work, it wouldve taken 45 min to an hour and they didnt have that much time available. so i really didnt think it would be a good idea to have the wrong tooth done without an xray. i hope u all can understand, at least the tooth will be fixed and we can be sure it will be the right tooth, by that i mean the most impt one.

  1. Tony - what is a "thoral" xray? I'm not sure what that means? Are you sure you have the name right?

    1. That'd be an x-ray of "all his thorax".

  2. Tony I have been critical of you on many issues. Lets just forget about poker. How much money you have and how you play hands are not really that important in the scheme of things. This trip to the dentist is big very big. If you do not take care of your health you may end up in the big casino permanently. You have to get your teeth fixed and forget about money for this week. Just get better and than you can go back to poker.. Poker is not going anywhere. I hope you are well.

  3. I am disappointed that a self-proclaimed poker pro mucked a winning hand and lost $100. Good luck at the dentist(s)...

  4. Tony I think you made some very wise decisions regarding the dentist. It is infinitely better to get a thorough exam and a definite idea of what work needs to be done. When you find out march yourself across the street and get it done. Get as much taken care of as you can as it will save you time in the long run. The worse things get the longer they take to fix.

    1. I agree with you AgSweep, but I think Tony will have a melt down once he finds out the cost to have his teeth fixed, and he will not get the full work done. Remember Tony has not taken care of his teeth at all during his lifetime, despite what he has been told over and over. So I hate to think what damage 45 years of not cleaning his teeth and covering them with listerine strips has done to them.

With his roll now down to just on $9000, he is about to go into "panic, run away mode," and may well decide that he needs his roll more than he needs his teeth properly fixed.

  5. I folded a winning hand in a similar situation. Guess what? I had been up all night and was super tired. Don't play when you are tired. If you're tired, go home, sleep, come back the next day.

Take care of those teeth tomorrow. Get the most important stuff done right away.

  6. happy to say the dental work is done and over with, cost me $1065, new roll $8200. and my teeth are quite sore now and im reading in bed. have hydrocodeine to take 1 every 4 hours plus an antibiotics to clear up an abscess that was spreading into the gums if anyone wants to meet cooldave he will be at the GSR tonight playing the PLO game. without him, i mightve ended up chickening out of the appt. im happy to say that once given the IV, i dont remember a thing after that, certainly not the shot in the mouth. next thing i knew i was waking up, and needed assistance to walk to daves car. was relieved the IV was in the hand and not the arm. it was tooth 11 and tooth 2, and tooth 2 happened to be much worse than tooth 11 so its a good thing i had a new xray. cooldave can post all the details as to the complete story. i just hope no complications develop. after 24 hours im also supposed to use salt water rinses and i have none of course. also have no ice packs so lets hope the pain meds work and i wont need em. mouth dont look so great inside now, theres a lot of black color on the teeth.

also the dentist said the bones being eaten awayon many teeth due to plaque and as soon as the tooth removal heals up i really should go back to a regular dentist for a good cleaning so i wont lose more teeth.

    1. Right on. There's that warm Salt Water trick I showed you again. It's really cool when you have a physical burden relieved by science isn't it? Gives your mind more free thinking space like cleaning up the hard drive between your ears. Take it easy a few days off now, you've earned it.

  7. That was really nice of Dave to help you out he's a good guy and good you finally dealt with it. Get the follow up cleaning so you don't have to deal with this again, otherwise you may have more teeth that need to be extracted. It's not fun as you know

  8. Well congratulations Tony, you surprized me. I was doubting that you would follow through and get the work done. Now that you have had the main part done, please follow the advice of the dentist and get the cleaning done to remove the excess plaque, then clean your teeth at least two time every day to maintain good oral hygiene.

I understand how big a fear this was for you Tony, and a big thanks to Dave for taking the time to help another human being in distress. I am impressed with both of you.

  10. I'm happy you got this done! Nice of cooldave to help you as well. Check out http://renoonthegodelivery.com. I've never used the service but looks like it might be a good thing for you. They ask new customers to sign up a few days in advance but maybe they could help you out if you call and explain your situation.

  12. Tony, congrats on taking care of your teeth. A year late, but better than never, cause if you wait any longer it may well be never. Now go take care of the rest before the plaque eats away the rest of your gum and bones. And for God's sake, brush your teeth.
