How come i didnt lose really huge last night like i was supposed to?

well i think most of the people who told me id do better off playing Blackjack at the live tables are right. (unless ive just been lucky). or maybe its because the machines i found while in AC are not possible to get a longterm edge in like u can at some of the places out west. obviously theres no reason to come back to vegas anymore, since ive been told theyve removed the good machine at the el cortez, and replaced it with one thats not beatable, shuffles every hand. not only that, it gives 1 point for every $4 instead of 1 point for every $1 like the old one plus it dont give out point multipliers anymore. so instead of 5 points for every $1, its 1 point for every $4. (basically means for the same amount of free play, u need to run 20x as much thru it.) so of course, its now no longer any good, and will make it impossible for me to earn rooms at the elcortez if i return.

At least they didnt shut down the nugget poker room like Chris Abramski made me think on twitter. funny thing, 1 guy in AC on 2+2 also posted the same email, (worrying the AC nugget room would shut down). they certainly didnt word the email very well. confused a lot more people than just me and Chris.

today while waiting to check into my new hotel room, i got a haircut (and a shave or beard trim) for $15, not a bad deal and killed an hours time since i had to come back later. need to do laundry immediately though when i wake up at midnite or later.

Last night, i was supposed to take a horrible loss. i left the $20-40 stud game out $1075. ran so bad and the only hand i did well in i started with rolled up kings. a couple of other sets i lost and once or twice stayed in too long. but a lot of it was due to bad luck. and thats the same as losing $100 in $2-4 stud, so its not really that big of loss, (by that i mean its not unusual for that stake).

But i sure ran hot in the LIVE table BJ. there were no VBJ machines around the area where i was staying, and i sat at a $10 shoe game and moved tables when too many people sat. won about $700 before i went to sleep, and soon as i woke up after a brief nap and needing to change hotels, i sat back down and won another $500 or so. i got very lucky on the final hand. i had 3 bets of $250 each out, (by far my biggest bet of this trip out east) and the running count was plus 10 with about 1 1/2 decks remaining out of 8. (whats the true count?) i assumed it was at least plus 7. (actually it wasnt the final hand, i finished out the shoe since the count was good--but it wouldve been had i lost)

if i were to have lost that hand, id been out a tremendous amount of money, for i got dealt 88 on one hand, A7 on another, and 73 on the remaining hand, and the dealer had 4 showing. so i was forced to pull out the remaining $1000 in the other sock, and double down (or split) on all 3 hands.

got dealt one 10 and one 9 on the 88 split, got dealt 3 (for 21) on the A7 hand, (thats why u double that) and got dealt a face card on the 73 hand for 20 total. so i had 6 bets of $250 each in play.

dealer turns over 3 to go with his 4 and of course im praying for him to have 17. Then i get the fear of Almighty God inserted into me when the next card is a 4, (and of course the pit boss is watching the hand with great interest). what a great thrill and a relief swept over me when the next card was 6 for 17 total, giving me a winner on 5 of 6 hands and a push on the other. i hope the dealer was happy with the $7 tip i left and wasnt expecting something much bigger.

so after expenses, im back to $23,200+ and im dead tired now and going to sleep.

  1. I'll bet the pit boss was watching you. If they even think your card counting they'll ban your ass fast.

    1. even if you could only a fool would ban tbc for "counting". there is no way he can keep an accurate count, properly estimate decks remaining, spread properly, remember the indices etc to be a winning player. he couldnt even divide 10 by 1.5. he tilts like a mad man and by his own admission would have left the table had he lost the hand despite the count being high.

  2. "so i was forced to pull out the remaining $1000 in the other sock, and double down (or split) on all 3 hands."

Really? The casino's security goons came up to you, put a gun to your head, and told you that if you didn't double your bets they'd kill you? Because that's what "forced" would mean. If that's not what happened, then you're lying to say that you were "forced."

I will never understand why you so frequently say that you were forced to do X or Y, or somebody "made" you do something, instead of the simple and obvious truth: these are choices you make, and you would have been free to choose differently if you had wanted to.

  4. So you're asking how it's possible that the dealer pulled a 6 instead of a T? I don't know how to answer that.

    1. The Dealer did that because he knew he would get a big tip from Tony. If he busted Tony he wouldn't get a tip. As simple as that...

  6. Who cares about the VBJ in Vegas. Your about done with those machines anyhow. Soon it will be time for you to pursue a bracelet after you put the finishing touches on your STUD game! I am sure the el Cortez noticed how much you sucked outta that machine last month. I am kinda glad they took it out while you were way ahead on it. Perfect timing for quitting that filthy habit anyhow.

  8. Nice to see you got lucky on that last hand after Martingaling your way up to to an initial series of bets totaling $750. I wonder what your next move would have been had the dealer hit 21 and you won nothing? Would you have then bet another hand spread over 4 spots to make it $1000?

    1. well with a bet of $750 total, and then if id lost id lost $1500 additional, so the next bet wouldve had to had been $2250 and that cant be divided up properly with the $500 max limit, but i also didnt have it in cash. so id have had to simply quit the game.

  9. $7 seems like a reasonable tip if you were tipping $1 from time to time while playing... if that was your first tip though, I'd say it was a little soft. I can only remember like 3 times total in my dealing experience where I was actually disappointed by tips (2 were in WSOP STSs)

    1. thats what he got total in tips for his entire shift from me. that mightve been a little low. but any amount tipped out at all completely wipes out any perceived edge of 00.25% or whatever i might have. its not like poker where my edge is far far higher than 1% overall.

speaking of tips, tonight i was really pissed off by the live BJ dealer blatantly repeatedly giving a hard time about not tipping without actually using the word. hard to explain unless u were at the table, and neither was the 1 guy playing next to me for a few hours, who got into a heated political discussion with me, but enjoyed having me there. i was once up over $700, and when he left, i was down about $300. shouldve quit when the other guy quit. eventually i got it back and $88 and went to eat with a $25 food comp. still id been a lot better off had i quit sooner and left to go play poker somewhere. Been playing a little online with the $120 or so i have in bitcoin and also redeposited another $25 into Bovada where i was broke.

    2. I don't believe that tipping a few bucks per session is going to negate your entire edge... if it does, you don't have a big enough edge to play professionally. You are just finding excuses to be cheap.

    1. since ive earned a gold card now at Tropicana, i can eat there anytime in their lounge $5 comps. also that same gold card gives me a FREE 3 night stay once a year at the Cosmo in las vegas, and 3 nites FREE at the Montblue south lake tahoe. if i had a passport id also have a free 8 day cruise in the caribbean. now might be a good time to spend the $1080 to work on getting better ID before louisiana tightens up their laws.

  11. As long as you are managing to keep your roll between 20K and 25K, and continuing to cover your living and gambling expenses, you are doing fine. Enjoy your life.

    2. to live where u feel relatively safe, such as inside a casino instead of a regular motel. to not have to deal with riding the bus, especially at night. to have at least one woman who wants to hang out with u. to see money slowly growing regularly instead of going down, especially no big drops. to be able to play the type of poker i want to play. to not have to be washing clothes. and to have working internet without a poor connection.

    3. One virtuous woman, who don't predicate her livelihood on monetary gains. Strength and honor and trust are her clothing! A woman who gives the fruits of commitment and unconditional love and understanding to her man. Something very hard to find in a casino or in a filthy poker room.

    4. And in return for all that virtue she gets to do your laundry.

    6. I believe the answer is to kill PPP and impersonate him and buy a luxury condo with high security and never gamble another dime again. See? Totally simple solution!

*to live where u feel relatively safe, such as inside a casino instead of a regular motel.

*to not have to deal with riding the bus, especially at night. to have at least one woman who wants to hang out with u.

*to see money slowly growing regularly instead of going down, especially no big drops.

*to be able to play the type of poker i want to play.

*to not have to be washing clothes.

*to have working internet without a poor connection.

    7. Tony should verify PPP's laundry situation first.

    8. Tony, please rate your current level of happiness with life on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the most happy -- or if you are in a state of constant unhappiness please say that instead, thank you.

  12. I wanted to throw hot coffee on the whole table when I lost aces for the 4th time at motor city. I decided it would be a bad idea. I was the only white guy there, and the shortest! Probably the only TRUE Christian too.

  13. Nice run at the live Black Jack table. I grind a lot when I play. Staying at the table up to 6hrs if having a good time. I like the low limit tables, $10 or $15. I can bet as much as I want, but when the cards start running bad I lower to the minimum for a while.
