Foxwoods, Poker and Moi, Very Josie

Tony asked me to write something about playing poker with him at Foxwoods and I am happy to oblige. My sister and I got to FW on Thursday afternoon and checked in to the Great Cedar. My plan was to win a quick $300+ and then play the 6pm satty for the main Event of the World Poker Finals that was going on. BTW because the WPF was going on there was lots and lots of juicy cash games. So, I played 2/5 PLO and won more than enough for my satty, which I donked out of after chipping up early. I was a pretty big stack at my table when I got re-raised with J-J. I should've folded because it was another big stack, but I had plenty of calling chips so I called. A-J-8 rainbow. BING! I raise, he reraises and I jam all in. He instacalls with AA. Also of a sudden I go from top of the world to very short stacked and gg me. But anyway this post is about Tony, not me. I was very happy to see Tony. It had been years since we last met in person. I gave him both a hug and a kiss (on the cheeck). My buddy Mike (my sister's friend actually) was playing in the stud tourney, as was Tony, but I didn't realize this at the time. Anyway, long story short Mike was buying both my sister and I dinner at David Burke Prime (an amazing and expensive steakhouse) so of course I committed to that. When Tony asked if I would have dinner with him I couldn't. He then asked if my sister would drive him to Burger King. Again no, but I did buy him dinner at the food court. Unfortunately I had to rush out because Mike was out of his tourney and it was dinner time. First table we played together was at 1/2 NL. I was winning lots of chips and I noticed Tony taking a picture of them! Hmmmm....He said the picture was for Lightning. Lightbulb, I hope you enjoyed the picture of my stacks. ;) Tony didn't play one frigging hand the entire time I was at that table. Next session was at 2/5NL. I joined the table because Mike was there and then Tony joined us. Again he played very tight, but this time actually played some hands and won them. He then introduced me to his friend "Bill Potts" or some such fake name. The kid seemed nice enough but very upset with Tony when I met him. He'd been playing live Black Jack, the count was great so he increased his bets to $800 each, which is when Tony jumped in with a $15 bet. He hadn't been playing but knew the count was great, and according to Bill, Tony's bet caused him to lose $2,400+. It's all good I think because on Sunday Tony tried a huge bluff against "Bill" during 2/5 and lost. As I said, Bill seemed nice enough, but the story just doesn't ring true to me. A young kid with 70K in cash on him, is living in his car and won't spring for a hotel room. Maybe it's true and there's just a lot more to the story that I don't know. Anyway later on I sat down to a 2/5 table and low and behold both "Bill" and Tony were at the table. One of them, if not both, jumped in when I did. Bill left shortly after. I lost a big hand....out kicked. I was holding K-Q sooted, raised and got one caller. Flop was Q-xx. We bet and called down to the river and he had A-Q. That hand put me down to a hair under $200. Then I got A-A. someone raised to $20 and there were a couple of callers, including Tony with 4-5 sooted. I re-raised to $80 pre, leaving me about $75.....everyone knowing the rest of my stack is soon to follow. Tony and another kid called. Flop was J high with 2 spades. Tony jammed and so did we all. Tony hit his spade and I was felted. I was not loving the table so I left. I played Black Jack, won about $400 and went to bed. Tony bought me a salad for dinner and mostly we talked about him visiting his mom and him not wanting to because he didn't want to get stuck there and he didn't know how long he'd have to wait to see a doctor. How he didn't feel a connection to his son, some shiat about abortion....like how unfair he has it because he's not a woman. A woman can have an abortion if they don't want a kid but a guy can't. Stupid shit like that. How his mother wants him to commit to coming home on a certain day but he doesn't want to. He wants to be able to drop in whenever he wants to with no notice and have it not matter that his mom and son are waiting for him and expecting him. Also he thought his mom would want $1,000 if he went home. He told me this when he had 29K. Hindsight being 20/20 I suppose if he went home and gave her 1K he'd have 28k right now instead of 25K. Regardless, I had a blast playing poker. I wish Tony and I would've gotten to play PLO together but he wanted to play PLO8 which is not my forte. Truth be told, I am not happy with my play. I played worse than I have in years imho. I didn't lose money, but that has little to do with being satisfied with how I played. Still it was good to see him. Now for your viewing pleasure....some photos. See that tweet from TBC? It was about my sister's friend, who I like to play with because I feel I learn when he's at my table. But no, he's not in love with me. That's the kind of crap Tony does. He makes drama where there is none. He was also sending condescending tweets to @stealthmunk and then he was worried about the threats munk made in response. If you're so worried Tony, don't stir shit up! Don't talk about his play! Sheesh! And most importantly... Play smart! Very Josie

  1. I apologize for the lack of paragraphs! I swear I had paragraphs in my post but it seems they didn't take. ;)

    1. How long have you been playing poker? And you spell "suited" like "sooted"? Really? I thought "pro" poker players were at least somewhat intelligent....

  2. Love the trip report Josie! Hey Ray when you read this can you give me some advice? Headed to Detroit. Is there a poker room where a lady is safe alone in the wee small hours of the morning, like 2 a.m.?

    1. Motor city casino is safe. The parking garage is well lit up and security services seem to be good. I would personally choose it over the rest of them. It's well lit too. If you're headed there soon I wish you the best of luck Ag.

    2. Thanks Ray! I grew up there but have not lived there in many years and have never played poker there. Both Motor City and MGM are near my high school, Cass Tech. (The casinos weren't there when I went to school).

    3. Ag, if you have your passport i highly recommend going over the ambassador bridge to the Windsor casino Caesars. It is small but very kept up compared to Detroit.

    4. Ag that area has changed so much in the last 20 years ts incredible. The only new places that have been built are those casino's. The rest should have been demolished years ago, but the city had no finance's to do this (and all the corrupt system was steeling from each department too). If its a weekend night and your alone use valet too, just in case. It is now worse than Oakland, Chicago, and Cleveland. That area almost looks like Almeda Blvd. in Los Angeles on a weekend night. I hope you have a great trip!!

  3. As I recall, Tony said that the other person in the hand where you got felted hit a set of 8's on the flop, so you would have been unlucky one way or another. Even so, players calling the raise to $80 with 8-8 and ... 5-4sooted? Of course, Foxwoods sounds like a GREAT place to play poker, u see. My sockroll could raise to ... $1,000,000?

    1. all i said was that women are able to get rid of a child, (either by abortion or giving it up for adoption --without being villified for it). and that men cannot give up their child--without being told how awful they are for not being in the childs life. a double standard at play here for sure--never said i wanted an abortion option--shouldnt be an option for anyone.

  7. lost over $1000 3 days in a row for about $7000 total of the $29,000. but not all of that was lost, about $700 of it went for expenses, hotel, food, transportation, etc, but i sure did lose a lot of that. about half at BJ and half at poker. and a few hundred on slots. im not sure what to do because i was sure id never go over $20k again in my life, and i still dont have all the things paid i needed to pay for like travel, a place to live, medical and dental care and i know thats going to cost me well over $5000. and if somethings not done i dont even think ill live another 6 months. Maybe God is punishing me for not going back to see my family when i still had the chance and hadnt lost too much and committed to a much longer time here.

    1. Why did you not go visit your family? Did you address that somewhere and I missed it?

    2. Yeah, you sure do have some people that Cate about you and you haven't seen in while. God knows every single little thing your doing Tony. You have my word on that!!!!!

    3. That is CARE Tony, i have fat fingers and its dark typing on my little android. Only you can make those choices, you know that.

    4. Read your Bible, Mr. Bigcharles -- particularly the Book of Job.

Quit being a weenie because you lost some money. You still have over $20,000. Go see your family as soon as your rental period is over. And let your mom know ahead of time so that she can see about getting you doctor appointments.

    5. Don't be such an idiot Tony. You have plenty of money to play 1/2 with. You know you can win at this game, around $13-$15 an hour. All you have to do with control your expenses, and watch your bankroll grow. You do not have to play 2/5, you do not have to play BJ, VP, or anything else.

Now, make a schedule on when to go visit your mom and your son, get the doctor appointment set up, and stick to it. The poker game is always going to be there, it is not going to disappear overnight.

  8. unlike what Josie wrote in this post, i didnt join til he said it was ok to come in. then he told me later that i knew he didnt really want me to, (he had said that earlier--thats why i waited to come in) and i didnt do it on his first big bet either. as we all know it couldve easily turned his next hand into a winner as much as a loser. i do see his point of not wanting to eat up cards during plus counts. but i was going to also come in whether the count was plus or not.

    1. Hey FlushhDraw,

I'm thinking about it. I need a big tourney win so I have something great to say, but in the mean time I can tell you a bit about my sis who was with me in Foxwoods and she's always a trip. ;)

    2. I know that I for one would love to hear your stories...poker or otherwise. It would be nice to catch up on your sis, Evan (he's probably fully grown now), and your mama (I hope she is still around and doing well).

  10. Tony constantly talks about bankroll required to beat a game. Does he ever stop to consider that skill is the #1 factor involved in beating a game? Is he skilled enough to beat 2/5 at foxwoods? Has he ever pondered that question?

    ReplyDelete
  11. of course he's got the skills he's beating that game for $80+ an hour and he says himself its the easiest game he's played in

  12. finally had a small win in $2-5. In room on Bovada using online keyboard. busted out of PLO8 tourney with Ah 4h Kd 6d double suited against his KKQ4 single suited. as i was doing so, and i busted out another player typed my hole cards in chat and said wtf would i play that like id played it poorly. so i looked it up and i was right, its a good hand i had 58% equity to his 41%. was very shortstacked too as id bought in way too late
