When is spending money for information worth the extra cost?

I've been analyzing my records stored on my cell phone, (why its important to keep these types of records) and it shows for about 4 months worth of play in shreveport, ive won over $24000+. over $3000 in September, over $5000 in october, (this month) over $9000 in april, and over $5000 in May. and for the other 8 months of the year to date period october 29 2015 to october 29 2016, i won only $9000+ more for all of those months combined. So the question becomes, how do i interpret these records in making plans?

it means leaving shreveport probably isnt a good idea.

But what about the fact i didnt feel comfortable sleeping in my living accomodations at night, due to it having outside entrances, and only wishing to sleep days and play nights? what about the fact its often 3 am and the game wont always last around the clock, or the fact maybe im in the game for over $500, built it up to $800+ didnt quit since i didnt wish to be inside during the nighttime hours in my home, and now only have $650 left and if i dont quit now i might not win a penny and suffer a big loss?

i see only 1 way to handle this. move to where i feel comfortable going home when its dark out. it gets light much later now and might still be dark as early as 6pm or 7am. it will only get worse in december. which means i must be in the casinos 365 nights per year where i feel the safest with good security and stronger doors which cannot be broken down, or in a big safe highrise like vegas offers. or to live with friends like Vince or Ray, this is why i wished to move.

This will cost money. at least twice as much as the $200 per week i was paying in the place i moved out of friday night. but if im winning $5000 per month, shouldnt it be affordable?

i did some investigating tonight, when it got to be 6am, and id given back over $300 of my $500+ win. Mostly to Misty and to one newcomer whod been losing quite a bit. samstown was 100% sold out friday night so i couldnt check into my free room id setup a week back for sat and sun. (u couldnt do fri and sat). and im OLD. im 47. i cannot find the stamina to stay sitting in the game 12+ hour periods of time, and continue to keep playing extremely well. i can only play $1-3 NL at a world class expert level for 6+ hours per day, im not these young guys on drugs putting in long sessions.

so what did i do? i cancelled the reservation, and switched it to mon and tues nights. monday morning it will be much easier to check in much earlier. sunday wont be sold out. one time on wednesday i got permission to check in 4am (with a $10 tip).

So i then found a nice hotel, one with big fridges in the room with very nice freezers. one known for excellent wifi. which i checked out soon as i went inside, sure enough, its letting me play candy crush on facebook, no problem. i got sick of never being able to play it at home and wish to live where i can. this hotel is $129 per night, but $119 for me and i can slightly lower the cost if i stay longterm to like $102 per night. it offers shuttle service to the casino (not 24 hours however) and is part of the Marriott-Hilton chain. free breakfast in the lobby and when i walked in at 7am to checkin (after first verifying over the phone immediate vacancy was available tonight) i was quite shocked at the huge crowd of tourists eating the free lobby breakfast. these people are on vacation so wtf would they be getting out of bed so early? when im on vacation id never get up at 7 in the morning, thats when people get up who have jobs.  so i took it for sat and sun and got to check in very early, 7am this morning. question is, am i wasting my money? i dont think so, i certainly am getting wonderful info about their chains of hotels and brands ive never stayed in due to the higher cost. i think its worth learning the info.

many young professional players who like me are easily capable of beating the lowest stakes live NL games for close to $100,000 per year, have much nicer suites than this. i wont be able to continue to pay these prices come monday, but on wednesday once my 2 free nites are up, if i dont then leave for vegas or toledo, and i shouldnt til after nov 4-6 for the freeroll which lasts 3 days, i can at least live in 1 of the 3-4 places on craigslist which appear safer to be in the nighttime hours for like $350-400 per week. hopefully i wont have wifi problems there. this is good wifi here, but im not paying $800 per week. remember the price i quoted for nightly here dont include tax. its more with tax. but this is certainly 100% free of crime.

There is another solution: Change your perception about what is and isn't "safe." As it is, your perception bears little correspondence with reality. I realize that it's basically futile trying to convince you of that, but your rigid, dichotomous ideas that X is "safe" because of this feature, and Y is "not safe" because of that feature, are completely arbitrary--products of your imagination, or fragments of random experience, not accurately representative of how the real world actually is.

You can choose how you feel. Again, I realize that it's basically futile trying to convince you of that, but it's true. Whether you *feel* safe is a state of mind over which you have almost complete control--or could, should you choose to learn to exercise it.

    1. I see the best way to handle this is to get some much needed therapy.

  2. When is spending money for information worth the extra cost? If you have to call a small amount then it is OK. Calling all-ins for info is not a good idea. But it would be better for your bankroll to watch hands your not involved in and get your information that way. Let other people pay for your information and you get it for free.

It would be smart to stay in a place where you win a lot. It is good for your bankroll. If your worried about walking home late. Would it be possible for you to start your poker session sooner so you don't have to walk home so late. But that would depend on if you can beat the players who play during the day.

  3. Explain again why you left Las Vegas and Detroit. And why you think revisiting these places would behoove you since you left them in a huff previously...do you actually think they have changed?

    1. whats changed is i have a lot bigger roll now than when i was last in vegas, or last in detroit. since i wont be playing no more BJ in these places since i only play it online bitzino for the last 2 months, i would not be losing the winnings on other games if in vegas and i now wouldnt be needing to leave Toledo/detroit since id be needing to get new ID in a few months

    2. "i wont be playing no more BJ in these places" "i would not be losing the winnings on other games if in vegas"

How many times have you said the same things in the past? (Too many to count.) How many times have they been true? (Zero.)

So what's different now? Surely not the bankroll--you've promised those same things when you had more money, and when you had less.

So really, honestly--what has changed that will finally make these promises true when you've gone back on them dozens and maybe hundreds of times before?

    3. Didn't you also mention a time or two that the poker games in Shreveport are much better than Las Vegas? The way you seem to have described Vegas is like we're some backwater hick place with bad poker games.

  4. Where ever you do decide to go i want you BACK IN THE GYM! A gladiator for Christ keeps a trim waistline... ps. have you checked on ppp's progress? He went out an bought all the "Rocky' movies and started his winter gym routine.

    1. So you are basically saying Jesus Christ is a Roman Emperor who employs gladiators. I guess that explains all the wars and natural disasters.

    2. I was basically saying if PPP can respect the fact that me and Tony have a friend in Christ, than we should respect the fact he has a friend in "Balboa"!!!

    3. I thought Jesus is your lord and savior. You don't get to be friends until after the rapture and rule the new heaven and earth together. How did you and Tony get to skip a step?

  5. But you will start playing BJ again. You know it,and so does everyone else. Also where are the results that suggest you are playing at a world.class level?
You are desperately trying to find an excuse to leave. The only reason you stayed so long was to prove a point to someone. But you are making $ so you shouldn't be contemplating leaving at all.

  6. So much LOL in this world class expert blog post. But, I'll settle for simply saying that there is no "Marriott-Hilton" hotel chain.

  7. You do understand that you can rent (or even pay a mortgage for around $1000 a month With utilities it might total $1500. That is for 30 days a month, $50 a day instead of the $115 a night in the hotels.....

    1. You act as if you are saying this to a logical person with a clean background check and OK credit. Tony should just look to sublet a place though in a better area if where he is staying is that sketchy. As long as he isnt flashing money and has a box at the casino I doubt anyone wants to bother him. Tony you would do best to just play from 6 pm to 11 pm every night. Try it for a week and if you think you make so much more playing later then go back to playing later on. Or try to double up at $1/2 and move to $2/5 for the night. If you have the discipline to play with your original buy in and winnings only you could make a lot at $2/5. Your "I have the best hand now" strategy of play is much more suited to $2/5 where people might actually make correct folds

  8. I think its a good idea to leave. Tony can only be at a poker room for so long before he pisses off the players and management. His vicous cycle of leaving to find greener pastures actually works to keep him from getting banned from the few places he can play left. As the Eldorado is a money maker for him and his recent altercation with the staff, his leaving now will allow him to return in the future and make money. If he stays and the game breaks before midnight, he is liable to throw a stapler or ashtray. if things go south.

  9. Tony, as a 47-year-old man, you are free to move around the country as you please.

  13. There might have been a secret stash of bitcoins that Tony opted not to tell his readers about? For all we know he might be lieing on a beach on an island somewhere with an ice cold virgin mary just kicking back and watching the surf roll in and the babes walk by???

  14. It's probably a good idea to consider leaving, but it's a matter of what feels right. Don't spend money for information like that, try looking at better deals and numbers online. I have a pretty nice suite that I found on www.movety.com and my partner beats low stakes a lot. On the site it told me about crime rates in areas and demographics, but if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe then maybe consider changing things.
