for some reason ive never been able to win in the GSR poker room. im losing $44 an hour in there over the long run. luckily i won the last 2 sessions on the VBJ when i went to pick up my free play. about $500 today and about $800 a couple nights ago. and before that i lost about $1300 on it.
a loose iranian guy who had a girl sitting behind him and he kept talking to her in iranian telling her how to play poker and why he played the hands as he did and how is was going to benefit him. he was straddling $5, or more, every single hand he wasnt the blind and had won a big pot off one guy since he sat so he had a few hundred more than he sat with. i kept waiting for a hand to take advantage of this, and he was in seat 2 and i was in seat 3. i never could find a hand, and i was stuck close to $200 earlier, had added one more $100 to my stack, was in the game for $348 total.
finally i had AJ suited, and of course i hadnt had enough sleep before i woke up and couldnt go back to sleep and came over to collect my free play about 10 am. (this weeks second $40 free play session). i shouldve just called and seen the flop, thats not nearly enough of a hand to 3 bet with, against a guy who might just reraise with anything or at least i will mistakenly think he will with both good hands and complete air.
he bets $10, i bet $25 and everyone else got out. he makes it $85, and am i supposed to fold here? thats the best hand ive seen in the last 1092 hours.
flop comes A86 with 3 spades. he bets $100 and i call allin for about $5 more. considering he might easily have a big pair, thats not a bad flop and im just hoping for no more spades. turns out he has AK. he looked back at his hole cards after the flop and i thought he had a big pair and was checking for a spade. he had the K of spades with a red ace. so i lost and quit, i returned to the VBJ, where id won just over $190 earlier, and proceeded to recover the poker loss and then i left. didnt ride the bus though its free for the next 2 weeks, becuase i didnt want a 15 minute trip to be a 2 hour trip with connections downtown. so i paid a cab $10. didnt even wait for Uber.
my time is worth a lot more to me than $5 an hour and it bugs me when other people dont see it this way and do things the lot longer way or will waste 30 minutes time to save less than $5. i think i caught Ray doing this at times.
i am still up over $3500 for poker this month of June so its a good month, just not able to win in the GSR for some reason. i won so much in PLO yesterday theyre sick of me sitting with the $50 minimum and quitting with $800 profit and then returning an hour later with $50 and winning $250 more. but my whole life ive always done what a good player has to do with a short roll to beat the game in the long run. the roll isnt quite as short now, since its finally at $23,000 again for the first time in months.

riding the bus at night
Just waking up, and its almost 7pm. time to get over and get to work while theres good games on a saturday night, and while i still have over $20,400 to work with. i could play $3-5 NL with it, thats over 100 buyins of $200, but in reno all the worlds best players tend to congregate in the $3-5 during the WSOP and the $5-10 NL once the wsop ends ($5-$10 NL never goes in reno til after its over). and the $1-2 NL is filled with both weak players and very deepstacked weak players with well over $500 in front of them. this is why its nice the minimum buyin here is only $40, since buying in so short makes it easier to take advantage of them.
in my dream koala and another unknown guy were hiding me in a motel and no one was to know i was in the motel with them for my safety. and we were explaining to the manager not to tell a soul if anyone asks about my name or shows my picture to the staff. and we were going to give his hotel a very good recommendation in my blog. someone was out to kill me. then later in the dream, my job was to dismantle some skyscrapers in NYC well out over the water and i was watching big cranes out over the water and Donald Trump was only a figurehead, because he didnt see the need for them to come down, it was me and his 5 year old Grandson Barron trump that was really in charge. and im headed to an elevator to go to my room when some young asian girl is yelling my name and i see Barron trump with his secret service detail and theyre getting in the elevator with me and they all have some really bad skin irritation and the nurse is with them and it keeps growing in size and i mention how doesnt the size of it go up and down quite and bit and how my own allergies are a lot bigger in size now and only on 1 arm, not both.
and im at a poker table and ive just got me a new car and i needed someone to drive my old car and store it.
well i managed to win only 2 $200 drawings in the poker room thrusday, despite having the 2nd most tickets but of course theyre were a ton of people with 100 hours or so and the good news was i didnt get called once id went home. came back a little since i had the big drop on the vbj in the gsr to 18,800 this week. about right after i wrote the last blog decided to play stud stud8 mix while the drawing went on since i knew i wouldnt be able to do any hitting and running no matter what size my stack was.
i started losing again on the big split and got lucky to win on the 100 play in the atlantis yesterday right after i just raised my bet while martingaling to 375 credits on the quarter. enough so it was a bit over what was needed to fill out a w2. and then later on, between the poker and the big split, i gave back half of it, mostly on the video poker in the peppermill.
i was going to the atlantis for the PLO on fridays, but theres a few people in that game, including the host, who like to play Chinese poker, and thats not even real poker and gaming shouldnt permit it to be run in the poker room since they self deal and theres no rake. maybe they dont, because its only in 1 room, but no one ever complains. but because of them all wanting to play chinese and 3 of them were in the PLO and it was getting short, it broke up before i could get there. and since i was already on the bus, its why i sat on the 100 play machine.
how i rode the bus there is a story in itself. u see the peppermill and the atlantis are like 8 or so blocks away on the same street and busline. i had bought a day pass for $3 that morning and since id already pass for it i wanted to ride the bus instead of walk. and it had just got dark out and we all know how im uncomfortable hanging around the bus stop at night because most of the people on the bus are homeless and very desperate for money and a lot more so at the bus stop because they hang out at that stop by the peppermill and many dont even get on the bus.
and i ask if the bus had just gone by or was coming, one very ugly looking white girl, one black guy she is with, and one young white guy. and the white guys says he can look at his phone and see. he tells me its in 20 minutes and i dont want them knowing ive got well over $1000 in my back pocket, so to relate to them being broke, i mentioned i didnt want to walk it to atlantis since i had a $3 pass already bought and i needed to get there to pick up $10 in free play (a lie). id overheard the white guy talking about how hes just gotten out of jail and isnt wanting to assualt random people.
he mentions how short the walk is and asks me if i could give him the pass because he needs it to stay at someones house and his bus is coming on the opposite side of the street and to hold true to my story of not having money myself i offer to sell it for only $1. he says he doesnt have it asks his friends if they do, which they decline. so we are all still there and by then 2-3 others have walked up, one on a bicycle and seem like they do want to catch a bus, but still young guys with tattooes, all of whom are rather poor and a woman too. and these others arent with them. well i see him with his friends talking, then a minute later someone says hey the bus is coming. and when the guy had talked of being homeless, i mentioned id recently lost the place i was at because the rent was more than i could afford and how id just moved into a much lesser place for half the price. (true).
so as the bus is pulling up i offer to hand him my pass once i swipe it with the driver, so i use it to board, and then hand it to him and thats the end of them as they walk across the street. only thing is without the pass, i ended up paying a cabbie $6 to return to the peppermill, because the pass wouldve been good til midnite. but i wouldnt felt like hanging out at another bus stop anyway. for the one by atlantis going towards town is more isolated than this stop is.
i hate riding the bus at night. i know God wants us to help the homeless if we can afford it but im not one of the PPP AC lightning Josie types with a lot of extra money. and i dont like being forced to do it or feel obligated to and worry about my safety if i dont. i wouldnt feel this way if id gotten into fights my whole life and felt like i could defend myself.
but when much younger i was in those situtations all the time, riding buses at night being alone in bad areas, even sleeping outdoors where i probably shouldnt have, like a park in st louis. and scary areas of las vegas. even bad sections of los angeles and south chicago.
but it causes a lot of bitterness and resentment towards the homeless to pay $15 for uber to sparks just for my safety instead of a $2 bus, the anger i feel over being out all that extra money at night just makes it so much harder to care. were i not afraid for my safety at night carrying so much money and just as much so about being harmed and injured if i didnt have any money to spare id save a lot of money over the past 10 years. and thats about the time i stopped riding a bus, when i passed 40 and when Uber started up. i only used greyhounds in my early 20s. and a lot more so between 17 and 20.
in fact Jamie sent me a text the game had broke before i got the bus. so when i got the text i kind of wanted to walk back into the peppermill but i was afraid it would make me look afraid so it was the last thing i walked to do after id told him about needing to get to the atlantis to pick up $10 in free play. so i was going over knowing the game had broke up and i was pissed at them for breaking the game so damn early im used to it breaking early but at 830?

its moving day
as im sitting here tonight washing laundry, now is a good time as any to update the blog post. won the $200 drawing tonight at the atlantis mix game, but still came out ahead less than that and without the drawing id have lost a little.
Found out about some offers at the GSR i didnt know i had, probably from losing so much a month or so ago on the VBJ and ive won back some of that since on it. but most of the vbj winnings were at baldinis instead. but this month ive been getting $40 twice per week and 2 free nites a week any day of the week. must be 7 days in between stays. which means i couldnt do fri and sat every weekend because there wouldnt be quite 7 days in between. had i not logged in online and created an account id have never known
July offers at the GSR are better though. $50 in free play 9 different times throughout the month. and 2 free nites any day of the week, but in a suite instead. and i only need to have 5 days in between stays instead of 7 for July.
and of course im getting about $300 a month in free play at the peppermill, divided up into $10 or $15 about 20 times during the month.
my nugget offers are decreasing in July though, from $75 per week to $40 for the whole month. guess they do it once they see u no longer do anything but collect your offers without playing. but i still got 6 free nites a week. 3 plus 3 with 2 nites in between. and i can still use them on most weekends.
so if i had nowhere to live, i still wouldnt need to book that many hotel rooms for the month.
and i should quit playing the $1-2 pot limit mixed games in the atlantis, they just call too many weird games, most of which u cannot research online except for dramaha strategy and badugi. too many games are multiple pots in which high is only getting like 1 3rd of the pot, in which case i called thinking i had a decent low and badugi, then folded when i seen i was beat, forgetting all about the high which wouldve given me back 1 3rd of the pot and i told Jamie i had the same AJ for high, but i actually had AQ for high and that wouldve been good.
some of the games require a straight for low in omaha for example, so A3567 isnt a low. and 89TJQ is a low because theres no qualifier. as u can see those are far more weird games than my friends in vegas who like mixed games play.
any stud or board game in which the high gets less than half the pot isnt worth going for high but only the low or the badugi, which are possible to hit both far easier than to also hit a high, u would pretty much need a flush or straight.
and u would especially want to never play for high in games with no qualifier for low, because once it gets down to 2 people u will almost always split the pot when u have high. or be the one who gets scooped.
now about the fact i am moving. yeah im no longer at the apartment i was at, and im in a hotel. wish id have known about the offers at GSR sooner or id have stayed there over the weekend and saved $245 i paid for 3 nights here. i thought i had an offer there which was only good on weekdays.
when i was doing badly earlier this month i told the landlord once i only wanted to stay 3 more nights, and then decided since id had a small win to go ahead and pay up til the 19th of June. i was originally supposed to pay by the month, not every 2 weeks and certainly not extending it for 3 days. but i was down to about 15k and thinking of leaving town immediately.
and at that time, (when i asked for 3 days for $150) i suggested she might go ahead and look for a new tenant, because i was worried about getting my deposit back and giving her enough notice. then Stormy and i went to buy groceries a week or so later, and by then id already gave her an additional $575 to carry me up til the 19th. it wouldve been $725 til the 19th, but id already paid $150 of it.
well we ended up buying food for nothing, because about 5 days later, my landlord told me she found a new tenant and id need to move out because she had already signed a contract with her when she collected her deposit for her to move in. she didnt know i was suddenly winning a few hundred almost every single day in a row, and won about $4500 in the last 10 days. and would want to stay in town at least 2 more months, probably til the first of october.
i was going to tell her on the 19th i was keeping the place since i was winning so much. her new tenant was arriving on the 16th and the landlord had told her id be leaving on the 19th. so her new tenant was going to stay in a hotel a couple nights.
well i was kind of mad because i didnt want to leave because i had nowhere to go and i couldve finally afforded it and i worried anywhere else would be not safe enough or cost more and i couldnt find nothing online airbnb or craigslist at first to move into. but i finally did and im moving into a place for a month tomorrow. its already been paid for.
so i worked a deal out to get back my entire $1200 deposit plus $200 for moving out on the 15th and this let her clean it for the new tenant to move in on the 16th. plus she is willing to give me a good reference now and rent to me in the future if its available. she told me had she known id not wanted to move out before she signed papers with the new tenant, shed have let me keep it.
this is what happens when i dont know if im going to win enough money or not, and since only about $1800 or so or the $4500 was won on poker, i got quite lucky. poor communication with me not telling the landlord quick enough id stay instead of waiting to tell her the date rent was due again, caused me to lose that place. i hope ill still feel safe in the new place its a more expensive Uber ride.
and with all these wins, im back to over $20,000 even with the money i paid for the month between mid June and mid July for the new place. so ill still be in reno a while longer

better news than before
well the good news is im back over $18,000. at one point i was as low as $15,300 or less here in reno. but its not been due to poker winnings but to luck. although the day before i made over $800 in poker winnings to mostly get me out of the hole for the month of June, where i was stuck over $1000 at one point. but ive been lucky on some video bj and video poker machines more than once recently.
was even wining on the big split machine a few times this week, but tonight i finally dropped over $600 on it which is about the same amount id won in the past week on it. but i went over to baldinis to pick up $10 in free play, and then to the GSR, where i ended up playing a little poker and making about $200 in poker too, which is about the same amount i lost in the peppermill poker room, mostly for shoving AK of hearts on all diamond board which missed me altogether out of frustration.
but between Baldinis and the GSR i won over $900 on video BJ. and we all remember the time i lost $2400 on video blackjack in the GSR. and about a week or so ago i also won over $800 in Baldinis on the same video BJ.
ive still never lost on the video blackjack in Baldinis although Bill Potts agrees theres nothing special about the one there. i still think theres new machines in either lake tahoe or fernley or Elko. otherwise why would Herbie be spending so much time there? and i think i know of a machine in Fernley herbie isnt familiar with.
the best looking and nicest dealer in all of reno is stormy at the peppermill for being willing to drive me to walmarts and the sparks nugget twice now in the last month or so after she got off work.. sure solves a big problem in the middle of the night. because the only walmart thats open all 24 hours is a humungous Uber fee. the 2 closer walmarts to me close at midnite and open at 6am. only the one far outside town in the middle of nowhere in the suburbs is 24 hours. and its very difficult to keep playing til 6am without risking giving back a ton of profit, even if the game were to go til then. although games here in reno have been lasting a lot longer recently, i guess because of the good summer weather bringing so many golfers into town. its too hot for one chiquita to play in scottsdale.
would like to introduce all of u to another good looking woman and fellow vlogger. she does a utube video blog instead of a print blog and ill never do one because its way too much work, so i always have admired those who edit everyday and upload.

was even wining on the big split machine a few times this week, but tonight i finally dropped over $600 on it which is about the same amount id won in the past week on it. but i went over to baldinis to pick up $10 in free play, and then to the GSR, where i ended up playing a little poker and making about $200 in poker too, which is about the same amount i lost in the peppermill poker room, mostly for shoving AK of hearts on all diamond board which missed me altogether out of frustration.
but between Baldinis and the GSR i won over $900 on video BJ. and we all remember the time i lost $2400 on video blackjack in the GSR. and about a week or so ago i also won over $800 in Baldinis on the same video BJ.
ive still never lost on the video blackjack in Baldinis although Bill Potts agrees theres nothing special about the one there. i still think theres new machines in either lake tahoe or fernley or Elko. otherwise why would Herbie be spending so much time there? and i think i know of a machine in Fernley herbie isnt familiar with.
the best looking and nicest dealer in all of reno is stormy at the peppermill for being willing to drive me to walmarts and the sparks nugget twice now in the last month or so after she got off work.. sure solves a big problem in the middle of the night. because the only walmart thats open all 24 hours is a humungous Uber fee. the 2 closer walmarts to me close at midnite and open at 6am. only the one far outside town in the middle of nowhere in the suburbs is 24 hours. and its very difficult to keep playing til 6am without risking giving back a ton of profit, even if the game were to go til then. although games here in reno have been lasting a lot longer recently, i guess because of the good summer weather bringing so many golfers into town. its too hot for one chiquita to play in scottsdale.

whats it like playing poker in northern california?
the vast majority of the cardrooms in california for some reason dont use bravo like all the rest of the US does (for the most part). if it werent for poker atlas, u wouldnt know anything about the state of poker in california and ive found many errors in poker atlas for games that no longer run, or for rooms no longer open. Could be the poker rooms in california have less money to spend due to democratic politicians making high taxes, or it could be the lack of slot machines to bring in revenue outside of poker.
what i seen, and i dont know if its correct (their info regarding the ability to find $20-1000 buyin $1-2 NL in stockton sure isnt correct) is that the california grand in walnut creek charges MUCH less for the drop than all the other california rooms, so why isnt everyone in that part of california playing there instead of the bigger rooms? $4 instead of $5 plus 2. and it also seems that the only casino which lists $1-2 PLO going regularly is casino matrix, but im only going by poker atlas. no idea how many readers i have in northern california. used to have 1 named Nick, but ive not heard from him in ages, nor have i Tatude. i wouldnt even recognize nick if i seen him.
all i know is first id need some idea of where to stay and to store my suitcase while im at the casino if i had no motel room paid for. not all casinos without hotels will hold a suitcase for u. and i worry in some areas all the hotels would be about $750-1000 per week. Bill Potts told me he worked hard to get an airbnb type deal knocked down in price to $1000 for the month and it was an awful long ways from the casino about 35 miles, but he had a car though. and he had to live with a family around. no wonder about 50% of the population of california is homeless, but its partly their fault due to how they vote. the people for the most part are all illegals, nonwhite, there is nothing but dirt poverty and money is scarce and nonexistent in california.
but the time i was there many years ago, so many so i cannot remember much, it was back when i got banned at the Oaks and the oaks still had $4-8 stud. the gardens existed in san jose and had stud 8. and i slept once in a scary motel in oakland and never again, and once near the Palace in hayward, which poker atlas claims has a weekend game 1-1 blinds with only $3 rake. but a lot of the time i played nights and continously slept all day long on the metro train with a day pass because i had nowhere else to sleep. too high cost.
i got banned in the oaks because i was bitching too much about how the other players were being nits by asking for setups when they charged time and kept refusing to play short and yet i was the one banned for creating too much of a disturbance.
ive heard stones is a nice room been there once and a lot of vloggers liked the room and they had meetups there with the famous veronica, but her political views and religious views would make u throw up. still id like to see who she is in person though. hopefully she is friendly and nice unlike Marle. i know i cant stay in reno, i cant afford my rent anymore, im just not making a dime here. i told the landlady as much and suggested she start looking for a new tenant. paid up for 3 more nights now til the 6th instead of the 3rd because i gave her $150 more.
the first 2 days of June i started off out about $600, recovered a tiny bit the last 2 sessions. at one point today i was feeling good, and my $40 buyin had increased all the way up to $557. but when i cashed out i had $130. most of the loss was all on the final hand. a lot of new players had recently been moved to my table some with intimidating stacks and one guy i knew i didnt want to sit there, because he likes the shorthanded 3-5 NL, i seen him playing the day before when i wasnt in it.
he was playing eddie HU i think. and playing HU is kind of dumb and especially if u play against eddie.
before i even made a bet after the turn or flop he asked for a seat change button to my seat. i dont know if he felt i was about to quit since id given back about $100 already or if he somehow knew i was going to shove allin and be called by seat 9, i was in seat 8.
but that pissed me off. anyway, i held QK and made it $7 preflop in a later position but not the button. i wasnt playing many hands. 4 people called. flop comes JT2 with 2 clubs. most would suggest i bet or raise here but i felt id get called and would need to hit to win. a LAG would bet it heavy the whole way especially after a preflop raise and not doing that i think is why i lost.
instead i let seat 9 bet and i and another only called. turn comes 2. he bets again and the other guy drops, and i assume he has top pair or less and i shove and i pray he doesnt call, but if he does i knew id still have $130 left of the $40 and would leave immediately. turns out he had 2-7 which is the last thing i expected him to have and then his 7 hits the river instead of my straight.
i assumed if he couldnt beat a perceived big pair or hidden boat he might expect me to have, he would fold. maybe he wouldve, but he could beat a perceived AA so he called with his 3 dueces.
there sure were a lot more people in there than normal for a sunday night too.
i mightve played a hand bad yesterday too, but how? id just sat in the 3-5 game to get unstuck for the day and i was told it was a mandatory $10 straddle but that didnt deter me from sitting. before the mandatory straddle gets to me i get dealt JJ with over $400 behind. a few limp, including me. and eddie bets $30. 5 people call, so i feel obliged to go allin. eddie reshoves with AA and im out just like that. with that many callers most would recommend a squeeze, Eddie doesnt only raise with AA and nothing else. so i might be good. he always matches the Duke of fremonts stack when he sits even though i dont think they were ever in the same casino.
he is friends with brad booth who i guess went to the wsop. for weeks all Brad could talk about is how my cousin Peter in canada who got my dad to do something he shouldnt that got him killed and Peter has a large arrest record by the way, broke his collarbone with a lacrosse stick playing back in college or high school. he recognized my unusual last night right off. he is a well known professional poker player. my dads brothers, peter and richard were with him on the night he died.
