reno trip report

ive always been nervous with returning to reno because every trip ive always had big blackjack losses here and i play both the 100 play machine where its 1-25c denomination at the atlantis for a spread of 1c to $125 and the big split poker in the peppermill too much.

remember the time i paid alaska gal $500 to drive me to reno and i had over $40,000 and how i lost about $15 in a couple days playing blackjack at the silver legacy, another place like the sparks nugget whose been giving me free room offers ever since?

yesterday i was starving to death all day and i finally went to the atlantis to play PLO fully expecting to find soup sitting out, and i found out nope its not sitting out one of the dealers said they dont do that nearly as much as they used to. the good thing is Todd welcomes me back to reno when he was in the box. i had no luck in the PLO, and ive done extremely poorly at poker since leaving turtle creek, which was a huge mistake in not staying til the end of the month. i might got either a $2500 piece or a $5000 piece of the jackpot money had i stayed til the month ended, but i thought by leaving it would help Ray who was stressed about fixing his car and was playing keno machines far too much because he hates $1-2 NL. the only thing he really liked was the $3 blackjack, which is a far better option than keno machines, which he likes due to being able to bet small.

i did of course play too much video poker yesterday as well as losing over $100 on the gemtiles machine here at the nugget. but luckily i didnt have a lot of bad luck in video poker. only in live poker. and at the Peppermill i started off losing $500 too right off on the first hand over $300 of it, but i recovered most of it before i finally left about 5am.

never got around to playing any BJ until today, and felt obligated to since on my last trip i lost over $1000 here and this is why im still getting comp offers. luckily i won about $460 today at it so i fulfilled my obligation i think.

i was depending on Blackjack a lot lately to recover all the big poker losses since leaving turtle creek. i won over $900 in detroit in 2 days on it both days i had heavy losses in $1-2. in fact in the past 3 weeks since leaving turtle, i gave back about $2500 at poker. some in PLO and some in $1-2. im at only a little over $7 an hour for about the first 500 hours of 2019, which is actually the worst year ive ever had at poker in about 20 years so i need this to turn about quickly.

still holding onto over $17ooo though which i hope is enough since ill soon be paying for hotels here.

i told Herbie id found out where his dealer angels machine is i didnt believe exists and i still dont think it does but maybe it does, he admitted i had guessed the location correctly. he keeps wanting to buy my blog for peanuts instead of a fair price and then control how often i publish and what i say so of course i have no interest. and who would want a liberal instead of a conservative defining what hate speech is?

i wouldve lost yesterday on video poker had i not hit 1120 credits on the 50c in one of my big split hands.

the peppermill in reno is still the best poker room in the country with a lot less to annoy me there than at all the detroit casinos. no having to leave the table to buy chips, no $2 chips in the pot, etc. and no acting first on the button straddle. they have very smart people in charge of the room who know how to keep the customers happy instead of like most places who only care about making life easier for the employees at the expense of everyone else.

the only thing annoying me was the masseuses continually coming around too often asking if anyone wanted to buy a vastly overpriced massage. i dont mind them being in the room and on rare occasions ive used them, but i would prefer if u had to approach her instead of her asking u.

i should quit using uber and start using the bus which is very convenient here and would save me a lot of money but i just hate standing outside at night.

i wouldve stayed in detroit to not pay for hotels, but in detroit theres no safe and close hotels everything is like a $25-40 uber ride away. and i sure dont need to pay this 2 times a day. and ray often doesnt feel like playing or driving there. he spent a lot on his car and feels i shouldve contributed half of it, and i would except for the fact i have no control over the car and if i had he still wouldnt drive it if he didnt feel like it and id still be stuck paying uber even if i had paid half. were i in control of making the decisions i wouldnt minded paying half. but im not. plus i think he mightve fixed more than was needed. and i feel since its a used car, he will continue to have new unforeseen expenses every month.

and i felt like if he wouldnt have lost about $1500 in machines this month playing games with a much lower ev than my blackjack machines or vp machines, he wouldnt need the money. i felt like i was subsidizing his keno if i paid half. plus i was in a horribly mood since i lost back all the winnings from turtle creek. i had about 19k when i left. had i been winning id not minded.

i like being able to walk back and forth anyway and not feeling like im dependent on someone else. of course if i get more broke ill be forced to  someday return to toledo to survive without being homeless and i guess will just have to live with him taking time off a lot of days.

he trusts bill potts as a good player and i wish he would explain to him why keno is so much worse than live bj or video bj.

i actually waited this long?

boy i really forget about the blog anymore, or basically have lost all interest in it. all the good commenters disappeared a few years ago (pokerdogg, wec, etc) and ive wished a lot of times i was far less well known. but i thought i waited a long time before typing up the turtle creek trip report and i just now realized tonight i had waited 11 days this time, and only 10 days that blog entry.

today was my mothers birthday and both me and ray had a chance to speak to her. she is having dental work done soon, and thinks the home Mark is in isnt doing a good job showing enough concern for his emotional needs. she was born in 1942, so u know how old she is now. and i think shes received her birthday gift by now, (a couple of office supplies type items she wanted me to order thru amazon).

i still have over $700 less on me now than i did when i left turtle creek but i did come back a little bit yesterday due to one lucky hand. a lot of the bad luck wasnt in detroit but in the PLO in gun lake on the way home. the bad news is for the first 3 months of the year, i havent even made $6000. (i had at one time). now on a normal year where i earn $48,000 i would be up 12k for the first 3 months. but ive earned that much only once in my life to my knowledge. this is going to be the worst year ive ever had since i started keeping records if i end the year at only 24,000 or less.

the good news is i wont be dealing with hotel expenses any more, at least until i leave here. i need to work on my citizenship documents and medical issues i should see a MD about. thats mainly what my mother was wondering about when i called her on the phone for her birthday.

Ray is still with all the money he left turtle creek with again, and if he wouldnt have lost about $1000 on video poker, he would be about $1000 better off than what he left turtle creek with. hes done well hitting and running in PLO.

im so glad my phone works normally now charges so easily now and i never had to pay a dime, wish id not put off fixing it for 2 months, worried id be charged.

Turtle creek casino trip report

I'm a little surprised none of the people who usually like bad beat jackpot giveaway promotions when a poker room is shutting down (and by law, theyre required to give out all the jackpot drop first) have been up here in turtle creek. Ray and I have been here almost 2 weeks now, and theres not a soul here that i really know. all the people i asked werent interested in coming up to turtle creek, even though $10,000 a day is being given out divided up among the players at one of the 6 tables, so u have a 1 in 6 chance of getting paid everyday. im also surpised that seats are so easy to get, all u have to do is sign up in the pit at 8am. or try to get thru by phoning in, good luck doing that. no one takes advantage of any good promotions any more.

10,000 per day til the entire 300,000 is given out and it ends the last day of March and then the poker room here outside traverse city Mi will be permanently closed. and a lot of angry locals here dont like it and have been writing letters to the paper about it. theres no other poker room within a 2 hour drive, so theyve got a big commute now.

we thought a ton of people from detroit and gun lake casino in Grand rapids would be showing up, but it seems its not been the case. some good players from florida showed up though. no one i know though.

the biggest bad beat of the day divides up the money among that table, (only 6 tables) and 9 to a table, so that makes 54 people and all 54 seats get filled by the order of the list once the room opens at 2pm everyday.

and the lowest bad beat of the day so far has been 99988 getting beat, and twice it was aaakk getting beat. i didnt expect them to be near that high. but a couple of times an ace high flush almost held up til 10pm. the room closes every night at midnite for the promotion. although the tables keep going til 4am.

i only got 1 players share so far, and so did ray. a bit below expectations, but i have won about $2500 in the poker room in the last 2 weeks.

and they got great blackjack rules here too. $3 and $5 minimums. they deal about 5 out of 6 decks, and allow surrender with 3-2 on blackjack. if u split aa u cannot resplit but u can double down after splitting. if u get dealt a2 on one of the hands and the dealer has a ten showing and u arent comfortable putting out a double size bet of $10 more? u can double for less, so add the $3 minimum for $13. this way u get to take another card which might improve it instead of being stuck with a total of 3.

im close to even for blackjack but i was up over 250 and at least im not losing. this is one of the best blackjack games ive ever seen. only problem is the table is usually too full to play 2 spots. and a year or two ago, they removed the dealers angels machine.

hotel rooms are much cheaper at this time of year in the summer theyre 3-4 times as much. just like miami is this time of year, only in the opposite order.

so after blowing a lot of money on hotels, food, etc, im still at the most ive had since flying into cleveland with $14,000. i got back the $1700 i lost one day in detroit and now im back to $17,800. it would be much higher if i could get either the big end or the little end of one of those jackpots and ive got 2 more weeks to try to do it. i need a lot more than that if i ever want to get medical care and citizenship issues resolved.

these regulars they hate it when people from out of town come up and get their bad beat money. especially if u nit it up with $50 buyins and show bluffs alot. and the hotel is good about having free shuttles to hotels and Uber exists here in the event of emergency.

i went to sprint and finally my phone is charging up normally again and it didnt even cost me any money. they cleaned it very quickly at no cost.

theres a lot of weird rules in this poker room. no phones allowed but they are allowed at blackjack, backwards from any other casino ive known. no food can be eaten at the table. or the bar in the poker room. u have to post when u sit. but if u go to eat, u dont have to upon your return.

the other day, most all the tables broke early since aaakk was the hand to beat. and since u would need quads beat, and it hasnt happened since the room opened, a PLO game broke out on one of the empty tables. i won $220 in it, one round of high and one round of hilow.

Ray hates the fact the only game here is NL $1-2. so he spends way too much time on the vp machines. i have no luck checking scarab, ultimate x, or ocean magic or alladin. and hes getting terribly fat from not spending enough time in the gym. he did fix some of the issues his car was giving him. im lucky hotels are so low here this time of year. theyre about 1 fifth of what they would cost in the summer.

Trip report Gun lake casino

ive been too busy playing poker lately and riding on the road to post much, and will be pretty busy the rest of this month, and not only that im doing much worse than average for 2019. in the first 2 months of the year i won a little less than 3500 so im only on track for 21,000 this year instead of the 48000 i won in 2018. thats not enough to live on.

so my rolls been going down and im still only about 15,500. and ray isnt winning either because he cant seem to stay off the machines. i pretty much playing only poker myself though. u just dont get tempted to play other games as much here in michigan as u do in vegas.

i will say i visited gun lake casino for the first time and they have a great plo game with only $100 buyin up to 500 instead of the 200 minimum most other 1-2 plo games have. still a lot of loose action. michigan always has better action than nevada or atlantic city either plo or holdem.

hotel cost are high in that area though. i was surprised when someone recognized me and showed lightning a picture of me playing at the table. stopped in firekeepers too but didnt stay long and they got rid of the electronic ultimate texas holdem game, where i lost close to 3000 on a year ago or two.

and im still having a lot of weird dreams and nightmares of being crushed in small spaces or being robbed and assualted by certain men. i even dreamed of Benny in Laughlin, and i think he would like it here in michigan right now where im playing. i dreamed his wife was knowing the rest of my text before i finished typing it and she repeated the rest of my sentence saying tell the truth benny.

i will have a lot better trip report when march ends. hopefully ill recover some of what ive dropped recently. but heres a hand history today id gotten my stack built up, even showed a couple bluffs and put a guy on tilt, but a new black guy had recently sat with sunglasses whod waited a long time for a seat. and he started winning like crazy. he was hot as hell and was up close to $700. and i felt like id laid down a winner earlier when i had AQ and the flop was QJ7 and i bet $35, he bet $70 and another guy called. there were too many deep stacks for me to feel comfortable with since id gotten up $250 and really needed to quit with a win today, and Ray wasnt quitting yet. so i folded, even though i had a backdoor ace hi flush draw because my ace was a diamond and 2 diamonds were on the flop. next card the same guy bets $140 and the kid on my left, also quite loose and deep and rebuying often, and got it back, thinks forever, and finally folds, then the black guy only showed a queen, and not his other card. kid claims he flopped bottom 2 pair.

so i get AA and decide to limp UTG because the kid straddled for $5 and i wanted someone to raise, so i could reraise to take it down, instead of bloating the pot out of position. it didnt work, 7 people seen the flop for $5.

flop comes KJ9 with 2 spades and im worried, so i check to see what happens. same black guy with those damned sunglasses bets $50 and everyone else folds to me. i felt obligated to call but felt i had too much to shove. mistake?

turn comes 7 offsuit. i check, he bets $50. i only called. what should i done? he swore he wouldve called and i think he would.

river comes 10, the worst card i can think of. he continues to bet $50 and i finally call. he doesnt have one of the possible straights but did river two pair of JJTT. so i felt i had to go and took an uber to my hotel because Ray still wanted to play. i didnt feel i could play well after this hand and i was still up about $60-75. how many errors did i make on this same hand?
